Man we used to open summer workouts with 110's. On a easy day we got like 20-25. Them rough days was like 30-40 and if 1 guy don't make time it don't count.
They did the same thing for my high school tryouts. Only 55 spots but 100+ guys came out. We did sprints, bear crawls, & up downs in FL heat then put pads & practiced. 100+ became 55 real quick.
Man I truly feel like football groomed me to endure the unpleasant day to day experiences in life. Every day I have to wake up early or do sumthin i mentally or physically don't feel like doing i tell myself "Man this ain't nothin compared to a summer of two-a-days"
From the age of 7 to 18, I had the same football coach-Coach Mellon. He stayed with our team because his son played with us, and man, was he strict. One memory that sticks out is when I was about 9 years old. I jumped offsides twice in a row during practice. Coach Mellon made me run gassers for the rest of the two-hour practice. It was absolute hell at the time, but after that, I rarely ever jumped offsides again. Looking back, having a tough coach like that was necessary-it taught me discipline and built character in ways I didn’t appreciate until later.

Around 2006 when I was playing pop warner football, we did bully in the ring. One kid was getting “bullied” really bad; I think the coach was trying to make him tougher. The next day his dad showed up to practice with his equipment, threw it at the coach, yelled at and almost fought him. To be honest though with hindsight he was right. Giving 10 year olds concussions for no reason is really stupid. Different times ig.

I remember those days ... we used to run from the endzone to the 40 and back twice in under 25 seconds if you were a WR, DB or QB. The offensive/defensive line had 45 seconds. Needless to say we had a fast team and we were very well conditioned. But out in the Alabama sun for 2-a-day practices, lifting weights, running and bear crawling around the field ... I DO NOT miss those days!!🤣🤣
This reminds me when I was in football camp and we had to run up a hill over and over again, and during the short break I was telling my teammates/friends how I slept 14 hours total the day before after practice, my friends were shocked and surprised I didn't grow an inch, at the same time our head coach was walking up and down the line, sizing us up like we were in the military. He almost punished us, but we weren't talking crazy, we just talked about sleeping and resting.😂

I used to run 800 metres. A typical training session would be 7 x 300 metres, with a minute rest in between. Basically, the time it took me to walk from the 300m mark to the start finish line. You run about halfway then back peddle to where you started and run across to the other sideline, coaches would mix it up by running passed the halfway point then back peddle from almost the other side line then run full across and that was everyday after practice

Our conditioning coach called those “Super gassers”!! Our conditioning test was 8 super gassers! I passed but that was the most exhausted I have ever been!!
