I love these hangers! I have black, royal blue and amethyst, and color code my work, dress and casual clothes. Makes it easy for my cluttered mind to understand! 😉
I'm about 1/2 way through "Decluttering at the Speed of Life!" I needed this 40+ years ago! Better late than never! Love your way of thinking! It's revolutionary!!! Thank you!!!
The advice is so helpful to me! It's a "normal" person speaking, not an "expert" who's never had an untidy home! One big plus - I've begun to part with "de-cluttering" books that have not helped me.
I have audibly listen to your book decluttering at the speed of life. It really helped me. I have always decluttered even at a younge age. As my parents were oposing of getting ride of things, my grandparents would get ride of pocession of theres and it must have upset them. So I was aloud as much stuff on my desk as I liked. I found when having children I had bo problem getting rid of my things. But had trouble getting ride of my childrens things. I even kept the clothes for my next son. But there was a 4 1/2 gap between them. So really I could have gotten ride of atleast galf the baby stuff.
I know, that part is hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣 I can actually relate too. I had a similar thing with a skirt, it would bug me because in different light it looked a different color, black or navy. And I really needed to know because it made a difference as to what I'd where with it. I was never sure. I ended up getting rid of it because A piece of clothing shouldn't cause us that much stress. 😂😂😂
I tried the velvet hangers, but they allow too many clothes in the closet. I transitioned to wood hangers with stoppers or the little divets fit straps. So much better for me.
Dana, live boldly ffs, you can wear navy blue with black or colours or whatever. Btw, I adore your b/w polka dot 1930s tulip sleeved blouse you're wearing. Thanks for the inspiration.
Your book refreshed me! Beautiful! I "discovered you" by your book, a couple years ago. I love it! I love these videos too! You are a blessing! Realistic! Inspirational! This works! Thank you!
A longtime subscriber, but just found this. Good hacks are always worth reminders! And it’s fun to watch how your presentation style has changed. It’s always been great, but even better now. More “animated” maybe? Your expressions always make me smile. And yea, those hangers are a 10. I’m all about not having clothes slide/fall off the hanger. Plus, they make an outsize difference in overall closet neatening. My issue is, because of a chronic illness, my weight can fluctuate 10-15 pounds in 4-8 weeks even with meds and regardless of diet and exercise. I’ve learned how to deal with it better, but it still means some duplicates in 2 sizes. Even with 2 closets, things are still a tight fit-but at least they’re in the closet.🥴
It’s worth it to get your colors done so that you know what colors work on you. It has saved me so much money and time and stress having someone help me develop a palette and train me on dressing my silhouette
The Wardrobe Woman is a great helper in deciding what clothes to keep based on your body proportions. "If it's round, it adds pounds." Horizonal strips also add pounds. I'm always shocked to see some people's "keep" items vs what they get rid of.
I love your reasoning process! I’m going through my closet while watching. 100% understand the navy versus black. I ended up removing all my navy (or navy-ish) clothes because I wasn’t confident pairing with other clothes. Brown is tough for me too.
I kept navy and got rid of all black, simply because black does my complexion no favors. I would have more brown if I could find it, as it’s even better on me than navy.
I have this black velvet hangers also I haven’t put my clothes on yet but love the way I seen a closet with them. I do have a few clothes on them and I agree with you that my clothes stay on them better then the other hangers
Do you try to match up a hanger-worth shirt with a not-so-hanger worth shirt? I can see myself going through all this, then realizing I've got rid of every single pair of pants. :P
8:19 minute mark: When you're not sure of the color of something, take it outside in the sunlight. The answer will usually be, undoubtedly, crystal clear. Also turn the hangers around of those clothes you are wearing. That way you can know for certain which clothes are not being chosen. I have both of the books she mentioned. My only regret was not purchasing them sooner.
that's an amazing idea! during lockdown I went through all my clothes and opened all the vacuum bags. Got rid of like 10 boxes of clothes but I still have too many. I can get rid of another 3 boxes easily, but it's so difficult to choose! What's your approach for like tops, t-shirts, and jeans/ trousers that doesn't need to be on hanger?
I have clothes from when I was first married...I know I need to go through and let a ton of stuff go...I struggle with my weigh and have a bunch of clothes that I want to wear again. In reality that’s probably not going to happen or they will be out of style/too worn anyway. I need to watch this video again and get to work!
Check out Minimal Moms videos on decluttering clothes. She talks a lot about how to let go of clothing that no longer fits 😊 I struggle with the same issue, and she explains how and why to let go of them.
The ending was so funny.....keepin it REAL!! lol I am reading your book right now. Decluttering at the Speed of Life I donated some things this morning and I keep finding more things!
I’m a huge fan of white tops and dark bottoms. I usually just do black and charcoal as they are so easy to match. (Dressy things). Light bottoms also don’t look so good anymore since I got a little chubby. Lol. I save the other colors for the overshirts I wear with my white tees and tanks and dark pants/jeans.
I can't thank you enough for sharing your information. I sent my son to buy hangers for my daughters closet overhaul. He bought the wrong ones. We're still talking about it two days later. Also the blue and black don't match thing is an ongoing convo between my daughter and me.
I would put both skirts plus the black cardigan all on one hanger, like I actually pictured myself doing that while watching the video. I'm an organized hoarder (for example, I have thin wire hangers and place cardigans and button-up shirts over top of other shirts to cram as much in as possible) but I'm starting to dig deep and declutter. I got rid of so many articles of clothing recently when our family played the Minimalism Game. It was fun and so effective and now I know that anything I grab from the closet actually fits. I'm nowhere near a minimalist yet but closer to being normal. 😂🤣
I LOVE those flocked hangers. I have a lot of wide necked tops and the flocking is nice and "grabby" and so my tops don't slip off the hanger and end up on the floor of my closet.
Blue is my favorite too. I had a skirt and shirt that I would put together EVERY time because they looked great together in my closet. But by the time I got to town they clashed horribly! I got rid of both of them 😊
Thank you for sharing this my problem is I would do things like share the hanger between 2 items. I would put that long tiered skirt on the hanger with the blouse I would normally wear it with. I would never get rid of the skirt because there was no hanger for it. I clearly need help!!!
Love the ending...classic! That's where we are today, isn't it? I actually saw where a young woman did that in a movie the other night. Great video. I'm going through this same process right now. 👍👎🤷♀️
I like the concept of comparing clothes items for which is "hanger worthy-er". In a sense it is like "what sparks Joy", that Marie Kondo speaks of. By comparing you decide which one of 2 sparks your joy, in that you wear it and like it on your hanger.
My favorite color is blue also. Your skirt looks black. Put it next to something that you know is black and then you will be able to tell. I don't wears horizontal lines, ever.
This is great! I have velvet hangers, but also still have some clothes on plastic hangers, which I don't wear often, so this will help me get rid of those clothes. I only want "velvet hanger-worthy" clothes in my closet. :)
You are so sweet and so charming that I find myself wishing we could be friends! May I make a suggestion- Find your colors (definitely navy and denim blue) and your styles. Doing so makes choosing clothes so much simpler! Blessings!
Black or Navy! I love this. I had two pair of dress pants that I had this issue with because the lighting in my bedroom was 'warm' with a yellow cast . I only knew the Navy one was Navy when I held it again the black pair, OR I got to work and realized I'd worn the wrong top.... I finally took a sharpie to the tag inside and wrote B in the Black and N in the Navy one. I think I've finally donated both, but I have vowed to simplify my wardrobe and not buy blue/Navy or brown pants anymore. It just complicates the socks and shoes and even tops. I envy my other half; he wears a company provided Dickies uniform to work every day. And I take inspiration from RUclipsr and Minimalist Matt D'Avilla, black pants, grey t-shirt, EVERY DAY. Why can't women dress like that? My goal, should I return to an office job, is to buy black pants, nice, solid black and white t-shirts and colorful cardigans. Keep it simple.
What to do with my empty hangers as I wear the clothes. I hate putting them back on the rail. I currently use a door hook to hold them until laundry day. Do you have any other ideas?
I put my hangers on one side of the closet then I move them to the laundry room rack when I do the laundry. No lose, single hangers in the middle of hanging clothes.
I volunteered to help my sister declutter her closet. Told her she could keep whatever fit and her hangers could store. She went and bought a ton of hangers😂😂😂
Pure gold. Found you three years later but who cares. You speak my language!
Me, too, thanks to Dawn and Cas!
Dana is awesome. If i had to pick 3 authors who have changed my life, it would be Brene Brown, Brittany Gibbons, and Dana
Me too! Thx!
I just found her too. I'm reading her books now.
:)
You can treat navy like black. It can be your base “neutral.”
"hanger worthy" is a very helpful concept! I'm trying to limit the items in my wardrobe and this will help! Thanks!
I love the concept of “is this velvet hanger worthy?” That speaks to me.
I love those hangers, too!
I love the concept of hanger worthy!!
I love these hangers! I have black, royal blue and amethyst, and color code my work, dress and casual clothes. Makes it easy for my cluttered mind to understand! 😉
Great idea
Omigosh!!! Sooooo relatable!! Finally someone with great decluttering tips who actually finds it hard to declutter themselves. Than

“Hanger-worthy,” love it! ❤
I have always had the mindset that clothes have to earn the right to occupy valuable real estate in my closet.
Clothes are so hard for me! Especially my fantasy dresses that I want to wear and never do!
The stripey skirt can be worn with red or some other contrasting colour, whether it's black or navy.
I was thinking tan, but yes red would be 🔥
I have audibly listen to your book decluttering at the speed of life. It really helped me. I have always decluttered even at a younge age. "I'm scared to wear it because I don't know if it's black or navy." 🤣🤣🤣
I know, that part is hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣
I can actually relate too. I had a similar thing with a skirt, it would bug me because in different light it looked a different color, black or navy. And I really needed to know because it made a difference as to what I'd where with it. I was never sure.
I ended up getting rid of it because
A piece of clothing shouldn't cause us that much stress. 😂😂😂
sounds like me 😂
Yep 😂
This is probably the most helpful video I’ve seen on decluttering. So simple but profound!
I thought I had decluttered my closet but now I no I have more room to go. Thank you Dana K
I tried the velvet hangers, but they allow too many clothes in the closet. I transitioned to wood hangers with stoppers or the little divets fit straps. So much better for me.
"I don't need 'iffy' skirts." That's a gem. And SO true! I'm going to be repeating this to myself while I purge today.
I got rid of all but 2 of my skirts because it’s so hard to find tops to go with them. The ones I kept have matching tops that came with them.
I love my velvet hangers, first hangers where the clothes do not slip off!!
💕 this! Found your channel in 2023, really had given me the confidence and hope that this might be THE year!
This works! Thank you!
The velvet hangers are all I use, except for heavy coats. Everything stays on the hanger instead of falling off. I get mine at Ross's. ❤
"Blavey" is blackish navy. Thanks for your motivation. I purged my Amy Fara Fouler skirts!
I don't need iffy skirts!! That is going to be my new motto❤

Been binge watching your channel and Cas... Thanks to Dawn! Your ways really applies to me☺️😘
I love your reasoning process! I’m going through my closet while watching. 100% understand the navy versus black. I ended up removing all my navy (or navy-ish) clothes because I wasn’t confident pairing with other clothes. Brown is tough for me too.
I hang my clothes by color and put navy and black at opposite ends of the pole.

Love the business on the top & comfy on the bottom!
This is so fun to watch because I wanted almost every item of clothing you got rid of 😂 Purple shirt, ruffle skirt, stripey skirt
So glad I figured out you’re standing beside a mirror. I was noticing the 2 showers in the same room.
thank you for sharing! I just went through and decluttered my clothes :)
8:19 minute mark: When you're not sure of the color of something, take it outside in the sunlight. The answer will usually be, undoubtedly, crystal clear.

It's kind of crazy to come across this video after I've already read your book years ago. Good stuff!

Me too. Its hard.
I love watching, and listening to you work!! Thank you!! I can't wait to get the new book!!
All your others were wonderful!
I never tire of watching Dana's videos.
I still have to declutter my clothes even more. I've made a huge dent, but I still have a long way to go.
The ending was so funny.....keepin it REAL!! lol I am reading your book right now. Decluttering at the Speed of Life I donated some things this morning and I keep finding more things!
I LOVE HER BOOK
You help me sooo much Dana🌹
I so relate to you. Thank you for your vulnerable video. It is great.
I love your shirt! It looks really good on you!
@dana k white you were ahead of your time!!! Zoom outfit, business on top, relaxed below the camera view 😂😂
Brilliant! I have been stressing over going through the closet! I am definitely trying this
I love the cardigan your Mom in law gave you. ❤ It's beautiful on you.
Very helpful! Thank you for the comparison “shopping”... makes so much sense! “R u velvet hanger worthy?” 😎
Thanks , you are helping many of us.
You had me at the navy vs black! LOL *subscribed!
Progress and only progress!
I love velvet hangers!
Wish I hadn't bought so many velvet hangers. lol All of my clothes are on velvet hangers
Wow Thank you so much...I'm 52 and found you and my new future today. ❤️
Red, purple and turquoise look good on everyone.
The decision-making process lol ! 💗 Oh, I need a black ruffle skirt. Great vid!
love the personality🤣💕
I can't thank you enough for sharing your information. I sent my son to buy hangers for my daughters closet overhaul. He bought the wrong ones. We're still talking about it two days later. Also the blue and black don't match thing is an ongoing convo between my daughter and me.
I love velvet hangers! 😍
Love your videos! Do the velvet hangers leave creases on the shoulders???
Yay! Just pre-ordered it on iBooks! Can’t wait...🤗
My favorite part of the video was the end! Video making clothes on the top and pajama pants on the bottom! Love it!! That would be me 200% lol.
Great idea
Love this.you are helping me already on Decluttering
I would put both skirts plus the black cardigan all on one hanger, like I actually pictured myself doing that while watching the video. Both skirts could fit on one hanger. It's what I do. And maybe a white top? Wouldn't matter. Least I think. Not a fashionista here.
I LOVE those flocked hangers. I have a lot of wide necked tops and the flocking is nice and "grabby" and so my tops don't slip off the hanger and end up on the floor of my closet.
You are absolutely beautiful and what a wonderful personality!!!!
Best hangers ever - velvet. I’m like you Dana yank and go...surrounding items do not fall off in process - yeah for velvet hangers!!!
These hangers are great! Been using them for a while now. Love your videos!
Blue is my favorite too. I had a skirt and shirt that I would put together EVERY time because they looked great together in my closet. But by the time I got to town they clashed horribly! I got rid of both of them 😊
Pile gone! Wow! I love how you just talk to us….
You look gorgeous in that blue blouse!😍
Hanger worthy! You are brilliant. :D
So excited about the new book!!! ☺️ xxxxx
One question I ask is if I had to buy this piece of clothing all over again would I?
Great job!
I am like Dana on Minimal Mom, and got rid of clothes I did not love and passed over! Easy now to get dressed!
Thank you for sharing this my problem is I would do things like share the hanger between 2 items. I would put that long tiered skirt on the hanger with the blouse I would normally wear it with. I would never get rid of the skirt because there was no hanger for it. I clearly need help!!!

I like the velvet hangars to hold clothing in place, but I hang most of my clothes to dry and not sure about putting wet clothes on velvet.
You are so sweet and so charming that I find myself wishing we could be friends!
May I make a suggestion- Find your colors (definitely navy and denim blue) and your styles. Doing so makes choosing clothes so much simpler! Blessings!
This was so helpful!! Thank you!
Just discovered your channel, you are so fast, it took me three years to catch up with you 💫

Thanks Dana, so inspiring :)
The pink top is called elbow length sleeves. Its a thing.
I volunteered to help my sister declutter her closet. Told her she could keep whatever fit and her hangers could store. She went and bought a ton of hangers😂😂😂
what do you do with the items that don't fit? do you just chuck? and do you put items away when in a different season? thanks love the video
I’ve found that by the time I got back into something, my body has changed and it’s not as flattering as it once was.
