Too true! If he is not the greatest he's definetly one of them. I love how he worked with so many artist creating so many hits, I remember finding out how close he was and how much work he did with Michael Jackson, Christopher Cross and Toto, I was freaking mind blowned! Circle of elites!!
Oh, sweetie, you have no idea how much we got spoiled for good music in the 60's to 80's... And then you hear us old grumps bitching about the shitty noise that passes for most of the so called music of late. Love watching your reactions.
You got a big "Agreed" to that, Julie. I get happily swept away in these reaction vids. Most definitely when I hear the soundtrack of my childhood. I love that the generation today is taking the time to take a drive in the Wayback Machine. It truly shows that 'our' music crosses the void. From early Bee Gees, through Patti, Yvonne Elliman, Shaka Khan, Eruption, Brothers Johnson, Doobies, Joe Walsh, 10CC, Gearge McRae, the Wolfman, Max Merritt and who can forget the Hues Corp? (Actually met the Hues Corp when I was a kid, in NZ.) Love your style, JB.
There is some good music in todays time. But rest assured. Y’all knew how to craft music from the ground up. Nowadays we have all this computer stuff but there is just no soul behind it anymore. It’s just a machine. Now I still like todays music today. However. I don’t doubt back then was way better in terms of music
The 70's.........AGAIN. You know it makes sense bro, ditch the soul-less shite on offer these days and keep delving into the greatest ever era for music by a very great distance. The standard HAD to be high back then.
The standard was high because they had to have a good product to sell. These days it seems the machine writes the songs and then chooses the artist. The consumer is so easy now doing whatever they're told.
@FairytaleFlowers 65 by "very great distance" that in no way downgraded the magnificent and epic 60's,i include the 60's in that magical era,it was 2 and a half decades of bliss that will NEVER be matched, let alone bettered.
First heard him singing background for Steely Dan. Another rabbit hole to go down. Also with Doobie Brothers "What a Fool Believes " So many good songs! On My Own w/ Patti Labelle.
Michael McDonald is the man! I’ve loved him for years. So glad you’ve heard him now. He’s got some great music out there both alone and singing with other gems! Enjoy 😉!
I took my dad to see Michael McDonald live in concert June of 2011, we had 2nd row seats and I swear it was one of the best concerts I've EVER been too....... and I have a lot of concerts under my belt!!!!❤️🎶
Thanks for showing respect to us senior citizens. I'm 63 years old. Talent is all we know in older generations. There were no tech gadgets to make singers and musicians sound better. It was their NATURAL VOICES and TALENTS.
If you like his voice., check out some Dobbie Brothers.. He was lead vocal in this band. Take in it To The Streets, Minutes By Minutes, What A Fool Believe are classics
I second this! Love The Dobbie Brothers! Also the only artist Ithat i know of that has a song called "Jessica".. it's instrumental, but still counts! 🤣💚
"What A Fool Believes" is a must react with Michael McDonald singing lead for The Doobie Brothers. Hit #1 across all chart in 1979. The song received Grammy Awards in 1980 for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
Now that you’ve heard his distinctive voice you are going to hear it everywhere! All the artists wanted him on their records because he is just so good.
Michael is still alive and touring and still has his amazing voice. As soon as the live events crank up again, you need to get a ticket and see him live while you still can
I just arrived by chance on your video. This song is a gem indeed. McDonald's voice is mind blowing! As beautiful as your words. Only talent can recognize talent. Thank you (from France) 🙏
You've GOTTA watch him sing w/Patti LaBelle: "On My Own". VERY GOOD DUO & SONG!!! The original video is great aaaaand you get TO SEE him sing: HE'S GOOD!
Yeah I love that song. How much do I love that song? I brought the Running Scared soundtrack for it😂😂. Actually I have to admit that soundtrack was good. One of those the soundtrack was better then the movie kinda deals.
Please listen to “What a Fool Believes”... this is from the group called the Doobie Brothers but he is the singer on it. It is a great song. Slightly better than this IMO.
I absolutely LOVE seeing the younger generations discovering the "GREATS". We who have loved these artists for decades, it's just awesome to see what we already know, that their voices will last forever.
Us gals were in love with him in the late 70's, early 80's - gorgeous man, gorgeous voice, sang with the Doobie Brothers so saw him touring with them 40 years ago and he sounds amazing to this day
God, I love your reactions!!! "This is above my pay grade," ha! I never saw anyone appreciate music like you do. It's in your bones and soul. Please go through with your plans to interview artists; you'd be great at it!
Ok then, let’s start from the beginning: as the member and lead singer of the Dobbie Brothers, you HAVE to listen to “What a Fool Believes” and “Long Train Running”. You’ll be swept away James, shivers of delight guaranteed!! 🤩🤩
LOVE your discoveries! Yes, Michael McDonald, a very iconic voice - also is playing the keyboard here and piano in other songs as he's singing. Extreme talent!
You haven't been exposed to 10% of the talent out there. Remember , there's 65 plus years of music out there in the world. You are just getting your first taste of the truly amazing variety of music. You are so lucky to be able to amaze yourself every day for the next couple of decades , son !
He was in the Doobie Brothers as others have said, and sings lead on “What a Fool Believes”, “Takin’ it To The Streets”, and “Minute By Minute. You’ll also recognize his voice in the background of Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like The Wind”, Steely Dan’s “Peg”, and Kenny Loggins’ “This Is It” and “Whenever I Call You Friend”. He’s a great keyboardist, too! And his sister Maureen is singing the female vocals on this song.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time, more or less, his. He was the background vocal on that Christopher Cross song you just reacted to. He was with the Doobie Bros after he did background vocals for Steely Dan, on "Peg" for one, and also duos with Kenny Loggins. He also has cd's with covers of many Motown hits. This rabbit hole is deep.
You are SO right, Bro! This is EXACTLY what music should sound like! Michael McDonald is in a class all by himself. Unbelievably talented. I've NEVER heard a song by him that wasn't fabulous. You can't say that about all artists. He's truly outstanding. GREAT reaction.
This is why us ol folks love ol school. When people actually Sang ..and musicians actually played music..Classics are the Best. Appreciate ALL music...
Hi Sweetie, I understand that your mind is blown away! with his exceptional Natural voice/sound. I saw him in Chicago in the 80's and I NEVER forgot him! Frankly, i fell in LOVE with him and his music for most of my 1980's .
One of my favorites from the 1970s, he was in so many of them, minute by minute, what a fool believes, imo be there, many more. I really enjoy watching you hearing things for the first time and seeing the joy in your heart spread across your face. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Doug.
One of my favorite sounds from the 1970’s! Music from this era was fantastic and there were so many talented people. BTW I’m loving your sweet and humble personality.
I love Michael McDonald. And watching you get into it brought tears to my eyes!.... What a way to start my day.....much love from an Old white lady with pink hair..
I love these reaction videos so much. You can find a new appreciation for songs you've hundreds of times by watching people enjoy that song for the first time.
Your reactions are so pure and joyful!! Love it! We truly were spoiled in our day to some good music! Makes me smile to see young people discovering it now!!
You are so right. Many people have not heard do many performers that have not been heard. We lived during the music when it was great.....the 60's, 70's and 80's. I am so glad I experienced the music. However, never forget the music that talks to you. I'm going to be 70 but thank God I lived with good music. I used to sing but I have listened to all music including R&B music. My music to move with.
For many years I said there are only a finite number of notes, of rhythms, of words...only a finite (although incredible amount of) ways to combine... It seems a great many were arranged in the 70's and 80's,no doubt... We that lived and experienced, so fortunate and blessed!!! So enjoy you returning us, James, thank you...we all enjoy together!!!
Discovering Michael McDonald is like finding a four leaf clover. Now you will start hearing him all over the place. He's been a part of so many hits!
I love that!
Too true! If he is not the greatest he's definetly one of them. I love how he worked with so many artist creating so many hits, I remember finding out how close he was and how much work he did with Michael Jackson, Christopher Cross and Toto, I was freaking mind blowned! Circle of elites!!
