Modern 6.5 carcano is safe to shoot and won’t damage the gun. Steinel and PPU both make it.

The Carcano you have should be a 91/28 TS . The TS that was cut down from the original M91 long rifle did have progressive rifling , so when the cut it down to a TS size it lost that , they are called 91/24 TS they will have an original date made , say 1918 , then a date in a oval for when it was cut down . The Carcano uses a bullet diameter of .268 and the ammo made now is only .264 , then if the barrel has had a lot of use ,you lose even more accuracy. You use a 5 round clip for the ammo & when the last round is fired the clip falls out the bottom

@@ballisticturd I do not know everything about them , that is why I watch others videos & read . I do have 53 milsurp rifle , 9 which are the Carcano’s in different caliber and models . I hope to have the 9th one here next week , which will give me the 3 bayonet mounting variations on the Cavalry Carbine . I do hope soon to have a video out of my collection

@milsurprifleguy7091 I just subscribed. I will make sure to check out your videos. I am allways interested in learning more about these guns. It is super awesome that you have a nice collection of them. I always get excited owning a part of history. It's far more exciting than buying a brand new gun in my opinion.

@@ballisticturd thank you , I enjoy the military bolt action rifles , to me they have character & history . When I get a rifle & look into where it was made , the time frame , what was happening , I get a history lesson . There is always a story . There have been some rifles I wanted for my collection that have sold for very good prices , yet at the time I did not have the money & did not want to over extend myself , so I passed on buying . I am patient so there will be a next time ,

I don’t think that’s a 91/24 because when they cut down the long rifles they left the larger rifle sights on the gun. This gun has carbine sights which are smaller. I’m pretty sure this one is a purpose built carbine. Also Im pretty sure the only cut down long rifles into carbines once in 1924 hence 91/24 and his is built in 1932.
