    I absolutely love my 4" compact with a holosun 507c red dot on it. I've never shot a pistol as well as I do with thecPDP

  • @strakerxl8263
    @strakerxl8263 3 года назад +21

    Yes! As a 5" compact owner myself I'm feeling all sorts of fuzzy seeing you demolish the swinging target compared to the 4" just kinda nudging it round after round in the other video. I was actively searching for a 4", but stopped when I found out the 5" was coming out. Wanted a weapon that simply did it's job of shooting as well as a pistol could. And here the compact frame allows for civilian concealability while the 5" barrel bestows duty level firepower in the same Walther quality package. This video verifies my decision to wait was a good one, thank you very much for that! They sure know what they're doing at Walther!
    Also, in regards to EDC; no regrets here due to carrying this thing in a Phlster Pro Series IWB holster. They have some very scientific videos on why a longer slide gun actually conceals more comfortably. Counter-intuitive, but it's true. I have my holster on a good belt and I could wear my Walther all day.
    I would like to see you expand on this platform in a future video. Would like to see how you get it to perform at some longer ranges under pressure. Y'all did a fantastic job of showing the difference an extra inch can make for that 9mm cartridge!

    • @GBGuns
      @GBGuns  3 года назад +3

      We've been meaning to get sciency and show folks what a difference it makes. It's even bigger with some other calibers. I carried a 3.8" 45acp when I didn't know any better. That 3.8" 45 actually had LESS muzzle energy than a 4" 9mm!

    Initially I bought the Walther PDP full size 5" barrel 18+1. I was so impressed with its reliability, accuracy, and amazing trigger pull, that motivated me to buy the PDP compact 15+1. This one was a L.E. edition, came with 3 magazines and XS night sights installed from the factory. I also changed the factory sights on the full size one for AmeriGlo Trooper night sights. I truly am very pleased with both PDP handguns. They are unblemished. I hope that Walther will eventually make a PDP tactical and a sport match target in the near future.
    Two thumbs up!

All joking aside, it’s a Glock 19 lower, carrying a G17 slide up top. It’s about to join my carry crew after another 300 rounds or so (500rnds minimum) because I LOVE the concealablility of the G19 lower, but the ballistics out of the G17 are better in my mind. I bet the barn that the G17 is almost similar to the PDP in weight distribution, which I believe Teya mentioned, and slinging those seeds of freedom down range, recoil impulse-wise. It boils down to a training issue. Walther slide releases are LONG (compared to Glock, M&P, etc.) Which means no reaching to actuate it but also means that if you grip it like a 1911, you will never get slide lock. I've noticed I actually have to prepare myself for shooting walthers by doing some dry fire with my thumb *under* the side release. After that adjustment period, I have no problem. In fairness to Walther, i need an adjustment period with Glocks too, but it's worse for them because I'm adjusting to the grip angle so I don't shoot high.

    I'm looking at the PDP as a possible first handgun while I wait on my rpal license to arrive in the mail. Living in Canada there no conceal carry, no silencers, no real home defense legal backing and only 10 round max mags.
    So it's pretty much just me and range/target fire. With all that in mind, what are the advantages/disadvantages behind barrel length and grip length? I'm hearing a longer barrel makes for less recoil, so perhaps a 5" version is a good choice. Does full size or compact grip length much matter when I get 10 rounds regardless? Does having smaller or bigger hands make all the difference in the purchase decision?

      The grip is the hardest part to conceal, the barrel length determines energy and round efficiency. Small grip=easier to conceal. Longer barrel =longer sight radius and more muzzle energy. For some reason people seem to ha e forgotten that most 9mm is designed to perform from a 4" or longer. The shorter you go the less chance you have that fancy HP will perform as advertised.

      Justin S i think you're missing the history of it all. Pistols began as duty guns. The Browning High Power started things off with doublestacks at 13 rounds. In today's age roughly the same size gun holds 17, shortening the frame to 15 is compact (typically slide too). 4" is generally the shortest you'd want a 9mm barrel unless you're using specialty ammo. Even most modern hollow points still need 4" of barrel to get the necessary speed. That made 4" slide and a 15 round grip the norm for compact. All the smaller guns that have been popular since the late 90s only came about when concealed carry became a thing. Since they're 50 years or so behind the naming convention they're "sub compact" and now "micro compact" which is about the same size as single stack 9s from the early 2000s, but since they have a double stack mag they're compacted.
