Smokin' Aces was an amazing movie, with lots of twists and turns. Ryan Reynolds was absolutely amazing in his role. The all star cast did great in their respective roles.
What's funny about Smokin' Aces is how they made it appear Ben Affleck had a bigger role and he's killed off early. Chris Pine, lesser known at the time, had a bigger role.
It’s got pretty good pacing, fairly interesting characters overall, really interesting characters in Darwin and Buddy Aces and as a bonus, Ben Affleck takes a roll that you think he’ll keep alive until the end, only to be dropped in an unexpectedly quick manner No hate on Affleck, just not the kind of character end that you’d expect from an actor of Affleck’s caliber
Facts ! Whatculture isn’t always right..”Smoking aces has a good cast lots of energy but is kind of annoying” man ‘Smoking Aces’ crawled so ‘John Wick’ could walk
I don't think Smokin' Aces is terrible, but I will concede that it is a film that if you're not on its wavelength/vibe, you're going to have a bad time.
What I liked about skeleton key as well that was kinda twisty, is that Kate hudsons character was actually protected by her skepticism. the whole thing could only work if she believed in the supernatural so the moment she actually realized how much danger she was in she was doomed.
Thats an aspect of Candyman and Freddy Kreuger that I think mostly goes overlooked. The fact that believing makes them stronger is terrifying, it becomes like a mind disease that you cant stop the spread of.
I have never gotten the hate for Smokin Aces. It’s not meant to be anything but fun, and if your gripe is that it takes itself too seriously at the end, I’d call that petty.
Love the style, this type of film needs a genre name. Seeing the different perspectives and how what we think what we know keeps changing and evolving. Snake Eyes is another great example. Vantage Point as well. It's been too long since we've seen one of these films.
Basic is SO excellent. Also another example of the commentators not being fully accurate, because everyone is not still alive and Hardy WAS a DEA agent, just goes a.w.o.l. to join section 8 by the end.
Reindeer Games isn’t a “ho-hum flick.” It’s either a bad film or a “so bad it’s good” film, depending on 1. your expectations going into the movie theatre, and 2. how much you drank before going into the theatre, given point number one.
The "twist" didn't save shit for that shit film. It just ended up being an even dumber film than it already was. This video was stupid from start to finish.
Not much of a twist but it is a WTF moment that's kinda creative. In the low-budget adaptation of Dean Koontz's Whispers, a funeral director is shown having sex with a corpse. But it's revealed to he a prostitute who pretends to be a dead person and has full-body make-up. It's just so weird kinda funny how they interact as she says she has to be home pretty soon.
1.). Smokin Aces is AWESOME! I love that movie and the twist is great. 2.) Skeleton Key is really good and the twist is SO unexpected! 3.) WTF is wrong with you?!?!?
Holy crap. Who wrote your narrative? Smoking aces was not a musician but magician. And not a operating room but an icu room. Damn details...right? At least sub par narrative deserves unsubscripe
I don't care what anyone says, Smokin Aces is a fucking awesome movie in every way and I will defend it to the death. I also quite liked The Skeleton Key (I have it on DVD somewhere) and both Escape Room movies (mainly due to the set designs) tbh, and Ghosts of War was also pretty decent too (though I concede that is largely due to the twist)
That's not even close to the twist in the movie. It's that Adrian's brother may have been the person in the suit all along. It's heavily implied that he was manipulated by Adrian, with Adrian mentioning things he shouldn't know. The finale is more of "taste of your own medicine" ending popular in horror movies.
Yes, this. It's a pretty minor twist as well, not shocking since we know that Adrian is the bad guy anyway , but just another great example of how clever and evil he is. @@arroncunningham9866
I got so confused with the escape room 2, i had no idea that there was a extended cut that changes the movie completely and thats the version i watched, because i didnt remember watchin this ending
Deborah Anne Woll died in the first Escape Room Holland Roden played Rachel in the second Escape Room 👍🏼 And they finished the plane scene from the first movie at the beginning of the second film to which Zoey didn't get on the plane because she was still scared of getting on planes.
There were two versions. I saw one in theaters and then a few months later I saw a reactor watch a different version and I was so confused. They had different endings.
I didn't know about all those plot twists at the end of Smokin Aces because I always turn it off after the gun fights and skip the stupid hospital plot. I forgot any of that stuff happened.
Can someone explain why they would think that putting people who already have ptsd into a simulation of a war to 'fix" their ptsd that was caused by war in the first place was a good idea?
I enjoyed this list and how it was narrated but the fact he included Smokin Aces on a list of terrible films means I may not revisit. Just joking but SA is an amazing film
I wouldn't call REINDEER GAMES a bad, bad movie; in fact it's pretty good for later Frankenheimer. The protagonist being quite a loser is refreshing, and not many actors would want to play him, or do him for laughs that wouldn't actually happen.
Never really got the animosity towards Hellraiser: Hellseeker. It is arguably one of the better sequels in the series and while not immediately on par with the first two, it isn't that far behind it and that's before the ending. Sure, the CGI near the end was hideous but otherwise, it was pretty decent film even before the twist. It also did something I haven't seen many movies do as good as this one. Depicting female-on-male sexual violence, through a boss-employee power dynamic with all the seriousness it deserves and without flanderization. They didn't made jokes with it, they didn't belittled or emasculate the victim for it or acted like it isn't a big deal. They didn't even act like he deserved it, even though we later learn what an asshole he actually was. The scenes where he is groped by his boss and later when she tries to coerce him to have sex with her, are clearly meant to be uncomfortable, despite the eye candy on this display. And it was done to a man who, in a different circumstances, would actually have welcomed her avances as he clearly had in the past. It was done to the type of guy who would have ridiculed any other man who refused such an offer. But he does refuse, because his head is elsewhere and we see how quickly his boss resorted to abuse her power over him and punish him for his refusal to go along with her avances this. Her open threat to withhold a promotion from him, when he is unable to "perform" when she wanted to have sex, was a good portrayal of the role that power plays in this kind of situations. At that point, it was no longer a consensual relationship but attempted rape. For this alone, this movie deserves a bit more credit that usually gets.
Nothing against what culture, but to see many if these clips as anything other than a varied brown/black mess, i needed to turn my screen brightness to blinding
I'm just here loving all the Smokin Aces defenders. We love that movie and it feels like it's one of those movies that nobody likes or has heard of but you until something like this, then people come out of the woodwork for it.

*And Chris character is fcking amazing, you never watched him in anything like this*
Smokin’ Aces is an AMAZING movie!!!
Amazing?
No
Ok yes sure

Have Ben Affleck do an exposition dump & immediately kill him off thereafter. Now that's fan service!

I also love seeing both Chris Pine and Joel Edgerton just showing up to nail their roles.
Smokin Aces music at the end (when Messner pulled the plug) made it 5 times more awesome.
Its a good scene and all... but didn't he effectively make every death, including his partners, pointless?
@@stephengrigg5988 I think it was exactly his intention. that "f**k it all imma take everything down with me" vibe.

I’ve tried to watch it several times over the years. It’s got potential but I never found it’s groove
I love Smokin' Aces. The way everything played out, was awesome. I watched the sequel, but it was terrible and should not have been made.

I don’t understand the hate for Smokin Aces it’s fukin awesome. So underrated.
Smokin' Aces is freakin' awesome! It absolutely does NOT belong on this list!
Smokin' Aces and Basic were both dope!
Smokin' Aces is a good movie; the twist is simply another neat flourish.
What I liked about skeleton key as well that was kinda twisty, is that Kate hudsons character was actually protected by her skepticism. the whole thing could only work if she believed in the supernatural so the moment she actually realized how much danger she was in she was doomed.

There is no hate. This channel is a joke.
I love how we all are like “why tf is Smokin’ Aces on this list?!”
In what world is Smokin Aces a terrible movie?
None. This video is stupid.
Basic was an awesomely fun movie. Loved the twist.

Come on! Smokin Aces might not be a Cinematic Masterpiece but it is far from being a bad movie.
Smokin Aces is brilliant! I won't be watching your channel anymore. Think it goes to show how different we are lol
The only reason I watched this was because I recognized smokin aces from the thumb nail and wanted to hear them justify why it's a terrible movie
Most underrated comedy action film.
Smokin' Aces is 2 different films mashed together, one without an ending and one without a beginning.
You’re not going to get anything insightful from WhatCulture sadly. It’s just banal droning from faux movie geeks.
The General's Daughter, Murder at 1600, Snake Eyes, 16 Blocks & Mercury Rising
Don't agree with you on that Reindeer Games, Smokin Aces & Basic are terrible movies. Quite the opposite.
I thought Smokin Aces was an awesome movie. I really enjoyed it!
Reindeer Games was good fun. Not an Oscar winner by any means but enough fun to not be labeled a "bad movie".
Loved Reindeer Games, Basic, and Smokin’ Aces. All three are great fun on a Friday night
Basic had the first movie plot twist I saw that actually blew my mind, and made me a plot twist addict. Love that movie to bits!
Memento is what did it for me, but I still loved this! Hope you've seen Snake Eyes and Vantage Point as well.

would like to nominate the film 'Stay' with Ewan Mcgregor and Ryan Gosling for this. such a meh film but the ending makes me watch it again and again
I saw The Skeleton Key when I was like 8 years old and I still have nightmares about the ending. The bodysnatcher concept terrified me to my core!
