  • This is my new truck cap camper that I built in the back of my Ford F-150. Unlike my last build which was more or less just for truck cap camping. This build was made to be multi-purpose and take as little time to set up as possible! Subscribe to see it in action this summer!

    I built a similar version that works well. F250 SuperDuty with same bed demensions. Decked base and Leer cap. Storage for all things turn key to camp and go +. Air mattress ready, portable power ready and lighting in the interior. Great setup for many situations. Holds an array of things that don't get in the way.

      What did you use as a portable power source? That’s my next step for the build

    I had a decked system for years before I did my camper build. I fabricated a custom track to secure a Honda 7000 generator that allowed me to slide it out over the tailgate. We would use it to boondock camp when I used to pull an airstream. I even mounted a place to hook one end of a hammock onto the decked face. It held up great over many years of use. Great content!

    FYI to make those rails are more rigid mounted sideways. Be more work but you probably could use 2x4s with those rails to make something a bit stiffer. Networking equipment slide on similar rails, and you can have them fully extended holding 100lbs stiff.

    Nice and functional build. Love the lower pull out drawers. One concern I have is that bed liner spray. For years it will emit toxic and carcinogenic fumes. You really shouldn't be breathing that stuff and I hope it doesn't give you health issues.

    Man, I wish I had the idea to do this when I was traveling and hitting 40-50 rodeos a year. Injuries and age have cut me down to probably half of that, but seriously thinking about building one in my 2012 F150 regardless. I would try and find a way to make everything easily removable to be able to use the bed, if possible. Great stuff man 👍

    Nice, but not being able to sit up inside would be a deal breaker for me. Also do you really need all that under platform storage to slide out? IMO, $1600 for the deck/sliders seems like a lot. Kinda tight for two people having to crawl in and out? Personally, If for solo, I would opt for a custom 30" wide bed platform over a couple of platic storage bins that just slide over bare metal and leave the back corner as a popup cubby storage. I like the idea of a sliding table on the other side, but I would just make it higher for ergonomics while seated on one half so that my feet and knees fit under when inside - the wheels of the fridge can be leverage for a custom slider if you build around it at same level. Check out Mav's build for the idea. Anyways I think once you start building out a truck camper like this I think you have to start thinking about just going with a van, which I did.

    • @MainelyOutDoors
      @MainelyOutDoors  2 года назад +2

      I think everyone's needs are different. For me, a Van wouldn’t allow me to access the logging roads we have here in Maine so
      or pull a trailer so that wasn't an option. As for the siting up for many, that's definitely a deal-breaker. However, In my last build, I found that I never hung out in the back. If I wanted to sit I would enjoy being outside or sitting in the cab. The only time I went in the back was to sleep so for me this setup works. This build is more of a tool for camping in the outdoors and a workaround for a tent I suppose.

    • @12vLife
      @12vLife 2 года назад

      @@MainelyOutDoors Yeah I totally get it. I personally would never cook or eat inside if the weather is cooperating. Your build gives me some ideas. I have the same fridge with the wheels and am thinking now how about how to leverage those wheels for a custom slide out. Thanks!

    Saw these decked buildouts and was hoping to find someone to use it like I want to. Feel it’s simple enough and my truck is my daily driver too. Been wondering how much clearance do you get between the top of the decked surface to the roof of your cap?

    Great idea with the slid out and if you did it on both sides would make it even better. I've seen those decked or however you spell it and for the price you can build a better one and I think you just did that they should be selling them with the option of a top slide for coolers, propane tanks ext stuff that just don't for in there box. I'd be contacting them before they steal that idea and make million's of your handy man skills. Love it. Make more videos tho you have been slacking in that department lol

  • @SchroederUSMC
    @SchroederUSMC 2 года назад

    Why go cheap and use pressboard / OSB? Your time is more valuable than the materials, using the Decked system is proof of this. OSB is good in shear and static applications, not in an off-road vehicle.
