Thanks mate! Ended up actually adding a second topper, depends on thickness but you’ll still need to be able to close the tent so don’t add too many. The roof rack is a custom made aluminium rack, got it second hand for $350 but they’ll run about $1500 to get made up new so I’d just go for an off the shelf aluminium flat rack. Cheers!
How did you fit your recover tracks and other gear to the roof with the roof top tent as well? I’m trying to figure out how to put my tracks on and love what you’ve done.
Hey mate! Yeah had to put a bit of thought into how we’d get everything up on the roof. For the recovery tracks and shovel holder I used right angle bits of steel that you’d normally use for shelves. Bolted one of the sides to the roof rack and had the other side facing outwards on the side of the roof rack we weren’t using to get up into the tent. This meant we could attach shovel and recovery track holders to the brackets. Other stuff on the rack we could just bolt on and then put the tent on top of all of the brackets. Hope that kind of helps haha
The Mark 2 was great and they resolved the issues with the shell cracking. The only issue I had was with the plastic seam seals which fell away after a while, but this can be fixed with liquid seam sealant
Great vid, I’m just about to grab a kwicky mk2 myself and have found your vid great. Is there any other issues you’d highlight you’ve had with yours? Also have you had the nylock nuts coming loose on top of the struts? I plan on replacing these with good quality hardware
Definitely the best tent for the money. We didn’t have any trouble with the struts but did have some trouble with the weather seals on the seams of the tent. I think it was because the previous owner didn’t take care of the tent and all it took to fix it was some seam sealant from anaconda. Enjoy your kwiky!
Grabbed one today and did your mods straight away. They have also put a sheet of ply in under the mattress now. Did you guys have a fan for ventilation?
@@Elds2024 hope it’s nice and comfortable now, mate! We only needed ventilation when we were in Darwin, so we just bought a rechargeable fan and hung it from the strap things on the top of the windows
Just got myself a Kwiky too, will do the same. Thanks for the inspiration. Great idea & execution.
Thanks mate. Definitely a worth while trick - you’ll sleep like a log!
Great idea and nicely done
Thanks mate!
Thanks for the help, been looking for this for ages
No worries, mate!
I’m going to do this to my kings adventure. 1st time using it and my back is killing me. I think I sunk to the base 50mm isn’t enough.
Yeah same thing happened to me, 50mm is way too thin! Need a bit of extra padding and then it is luxurious
I did the same as in the vid. Slightly better but I'll be getting a mattress topper also.@@BeforeWeExpire
Hi, great idea.
I have 2 questions and I hope you can help.
Why not use 2 queen toppas ?
And
What brand and model is your roof rack ?
Thanks
Mark

Thanks for the video! Could you please add the mattress measurements in the comments
Yeah sure! It’s 2080mm 1100mm
@@BeforeWeExpire thank you!
I heard that the original Kwiky had a lot of faults and returns. How has the Mark 2 been? Any issues?

Just checking but it’s a King Single underlay and sheet right?
Yeah, that’s right 👍
Is there any trouble shutting it with the added mattress? Just saw one video and the bloke had to cut a mark in the mattress so it could still shut
Nah, even with pillows and bedding it still closes all the way, I leave everything up there 24/7
