Robert Yates was a good man, a Great Man, and a great American.
I always had the greatest respect for him as a fan.
His son Doug is the same way.
Great interview, great job Kyle, kudos!

As a kid who was 9 years old in 93 I’ll always remember the news that Davey Allison had died , guy was my hero every week as a kid for a year the first year I started watching nascar with my grandpa and dad when he wasn’t working everyone was a dale earnhardt fan are Bill Elliott fan and I liked the 28 Texaco car because it looked cool the good times ended fast back then.

Coffee with Kyle is the greatest. The guests that come on are legends. This one is no exception. I started watching NASCAR as a fan of Davey, Kyle, Rusty, and Dale Jarrett. 3 of the 4 biggest losses in this sport came in this era with Davey, Dale Sr, and Adam. Only other one close was Fireball. Kyle brings something special to this interviews.

Robert Yates was and will remain one of the most brilliant engine builders in automotive engineering history (of all makes and types of engines). I've met Doug Yates once at the RYR shop in 2007. His talent was already recognized by his peers as a brilliant engine builder in is own right. It will be only a matter of time before he follows his Dad into the Hall of Fame.
    Great interview by Kyle.

I live in Greenville, s.c. being born in the early 80,s I was a young racing fan . But I can remember in the late 80,s all the talk about engines at any local track (dirt, paved, or drag strip) was all about Yates engines. If you had the money and was able to get a Yates engine , the odds were in your favor. This is probably the best episode yet for me

03:43 The DieGard Gary Nelson stuff needs to be showcased for the kids. They need to know what went on "way back when". Maybe "A Very Special Episode" of Coffee with Kyle? For no good reason, way back when, I happened to have purchased my only ever copy of the "Something something (Grand National?) Illustrated magazine with the article where Gary gives up the secrets to success. There is a movie better than Days Of Thunder hidden in that article. The magic bumper, the lead shot dumped on the apron after tech, so many creative things that may, or may not, have been addressed in the rulebook. This subject is worthy of an update and a reminisce.

Kyle never really had the greatest success as a driver but he's great and interviewing those who are/were involved in the sport. The Coffee with Kyle series is a great way to record and preserve the history of NASCAR and the elements that made up the sport before all the huge changes in the 2000s.

Doug you are a great son & a better man. Thank you. Unfortunately for us we have to wait cuz i know Robert, Davey, & Dale are racing together. Dale said if Davey was still alive he would have fewer championships. Your dad was the key that unlocked Davey. I also believe your dad was the best engine builder ever. There was alot of stiff competition out there, to many to list. I know a little of what i say, I've worked in sprint cars for 35 years.

Robert was one them guys if anyway possible give 100 mechanics very same engine to put together. Robert engine would be the best. A kind of a magic touch type deal. Well we got the pleasure of knowing Robert did keep a lot of NASCAR officials up at nights trying figure out WHY??? He just had that touch you can't buy.
