    I have both the 25 and 10 deg light beds. Looks like the latest version that just came out has some welcome design tweaks like draft collar bigger hood (original one a bit snug). I pair the 25 deg with a Nemo tensor and the 10 deg with ZB’s R6 rated pad. I find the 25 deg rating to be survival as it’s only good to the freezing mark for me. I have been toasty with only a base layer down to a windy 14deg using both quilts. For me, this system is the only way to go- I move a lot and I can’t tolerate a sleeping bag whatsoever. While it’s not crazy light weight (I have the long, wide size), I’m happy to trade a few ounces for great nights sleep. I’ve taken mine to Africa, section hiking the AT and will take it Iceland this year.

    I have the older 20 degree model and regularly pair it with the Quasar 3D and Tensor pads. Been using this set up for the better part of 2 years.This is by far the best sleep system I have ever used, and I have used a lot of sleep systems over the years. I'm a 6ft tall, 230lbs+, side sleeper and this checks all my boxes from sleep comfort to weather versatility. I agree with the commenter below, the best deal is if you catch either the pad or the Zenbivy on sale, but even at full price they are worth it.

      @@mairesean1010 If you're forcing me to choose one, I am probably gonna go with the Tensor personally. But I have also spent quite a bit more time on it, so it might just be a personal comfort thing. Like he mentions in the video the Quasar 3D does have a slight curve in it side to side. I could see that being slightly uncomfortable for a stomach sleeper.

    My favorite sleeping bag is the Big Agnes Diamond Park bag. It is very similar to the Zenbivy bag. I was going back and forth between the two but the options of using just the top as a quilt, being able to use the park wedgie to turn it into a mummy bag, etc., made me choose the Big Agnes design. I really like outdoor companies who are thinking outside the box and giving us options. I look forward to seeing the Zenbivy on future adventures. Thanks for using gear that’s fun and functional!

    With an R3.3 rating/value, I'm truly surprise you or anyone would willingly give up an XTherm with an R6.9 rating/value.
    Comfy "warm" is what comfort is all about & that starts with an air mattress with a HIGH R value.
    Yes. I own & sleep on my XTherm as part of my sleep system when overnighting. In addition to the XTherm, I have the Thermarest Luxury 3" thick, 25" wide air mattress for the inside of my van. I bought the very first 1" Thermarest inflatable they made back in the late 70's so you can see I'm a long time & repeat Thermarest customer.

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  3 года назад +2

      It's not always about having a single item to use for everything. An XTherm for me is overkill in the summer months, so a standard insulated pad is a better option for me.

    I have the 23 synthetic, and the 25 degree light(down) beds. wow. just wow. I have used the synth in summer at 75 at night, and in winter the light bed down to 20. Both worked great. Im a bigger guy tho(6;1, 255lb), and I slept warm. Drafts and being able to toss and turn/stomach sleep, are my priorities. I have used both the ZB 25/75 light pad, and my Nemo (LW )tensor pad. I bought mine on the summer sale for 30% off. recommended.

    • @Zimph_
      @Zimph_ 2 года назад

      Here's something to consider. Who wants to screw around with zippers while they're half asleep and it's dark out? They seem to have a pretty good securing method to keep drafts out, and just less hassle than zippers. Oh yeah and less weight.

    • @Suncity4
      @Suncity4 2 года назад +1

      So I got both styles and have tried them both. I like the toggle version better for several reasons, some you mentioned. Mostly the light bed has more roominess.

    • @Zimph_
      @Zimph_ 2 года назад

      @@Suncity4 Oh yeah dude. I just got mine in and immediately slept in the backyard like a kid, and it was great (Light 10). Another thing to note for anybody considering between the two, is that I would feel this thing works better as a general kind of blanket (think army woobie/poncho liner) without two long zippers running in the center of the "blanket," just waiting to get cold and touch you in the middle of the night. Perhaps you could elaborate on that, but just thinking it through and having my hands on this light bag confirms it was the better choice.

    • @Suncity4
      @Suncity4 2 года назад +1

      When I used the zipper version it was slightly snug when I slept on my side, this was not the case with the light bed. In addition, I noticed some tie down loops perhaps on the lower part of the zipper version but when the bottom is unzipped it doesn’t stay on the pad as well as the lights toggle system. I liked the zipper version until my light bed showed up. So, just so much more flexibility with the light version and that is partly due to the size difference which was more than I noticed. Of course this comes at a higher price. But the light bed weight and price are competitive with bags and quilts at those temp ratings. I already had used a pad sheet or liner bags and head cover with my quilts so the weight increase was a couple of ounces for that fantastic hood and toggle connect system. I will sale the Zenbivy bed and keep the light bed. There is a place for the zipper bed but for me the light bed is superior.

    Devon, once you go Zenbivy - you never go back.
    Michael Glavin is the difference - a rare product designer who honours, above all things, the users experience. I have long been a MG fan as he has the Midas touch with all products he has a hand in designing, GSI Pinnacle cook kits, Sierra design tents 2014 - 2017, Sierra designs backcountry beds, quilts, zissou sleeping bags etc.
    I have dozen of quilts and sleeping bag options but these days I rarely if ever choose to use anything but a Zenbivy system. I regret it when I don’t take a Zenbivy on trips as my sleep is never ever as good. So, Welcome to the best outdoor sleeping experience you could ever have, particularly with these newly updated 2022 light bed models.

Regardless an indisputable fact is that the better sleep you get, the more rejuvenated you will be in the morning, and in turn the farther you can hike. So honestly, I’m taking the heavier pad if it means being more comfortable, even if the thermarest is good enough… it’s not as comfortable. I guarantee the people who carry the lightest thinnest pads as a part of their sleep system because they think it will allow them to hike more miles and make their pack more comfortable to carry, would get the same miles in a day carrying the 2 pound pad, and be just as comfortable with the weight of their pack if they were getting a really good night of sleep their entire trip.

But i have the rectagular reg wide version and i would argue that it is not 4" thick like sea to summit claims. I don't really need 4" thick but its supposed to be as advertized and mine is 3" 1/4 inches thick fully inflated. Anyone else notice this discrepancy? Strange! Not a big deal though really. Seems like their mummy shape version might be 4" on the sides but not the rectangle version. Trekologies UL140 seems pretty comfortable too but bulky. Much bulkier than their UL80 pad but that is a great budget pad. I use it as a loaner and backup pad. Good stuff always Devan! Stay safe! Hike on!

Would the sheet be way too long to work? It's difficult to tell from any videos I've watched how stretchy or forgiving the sheet would be. Thanks so much for your video! It's so helpful, and I'm almost sold on buying a zenbivy light bed now!

      It ought to fit that size. There’s a strap that goes under the pad to help secure the fitted sheet to the pad. 66” is a little short though, so you may have some sliding happening. I bet it would work just fine though.

    I did not know Zenbivy’s founder was behind the backcountry bed. Cool facts!. I have the Sierra Designs Cloud 800 20 degree and it’s like half of a backcountry bed. Looks pretty sweet!

    Great stuff!
    So interesting!! And not of the typical raved reviews products you normally see!! So this was refreshing and different!!
    I wish you shown how they were when all packed up!!
    But I'm afraid the weight of the Nemo mat is WAAAY too heavy for me!!
    I love the idea of it, but it seems like it's just a car camping only!! No way it's suitable for backpacking!!
    I don't say it as some ultralighter snob! But because everything I own is already heavy as heck (backpack alone is 2 kg!!) So I can't afford to invest into something that that's heavy!!

      I’ll share the pack size when I do a full review.
      The Quasar really isn’t that heavy. It’s absolutely suitable for backpacking. It packs small and 2 pounds is a reasonable weight to carry for a pad.
