    Pity to see Switzerland leaving the FM Band. Thanks for the recording Lucas, this will serve as a history for future generations to come. At the end of the video, a brief audio was heard, perhaps it is now France Info occupying the band nearby? 73!

    Since there's no other use for 88-108 MHz band than FM broadcasting, there should not be fixed date set for the forced shutdown. By imposing it, the Swiss regulator has acted contrary to the free market competition rules and against the interests of the public. They aligned themselves with the DAB lobbyists who want to establish a monopoly for their own broadcasting standard. But the real action of an actual regulator should be to protect the citizens from the influence of corporate lobbying and do everything possible to foster competition. It should be a decision made individually by each of the stations after own assessment. If someone wants to broadcast in analog, why should the state refrain from issuing a license and collecting the necessary fees? Who benefits from that?

      The patents related to DAB audio (as defined in ETSI TS 103 466) have expired and DAB audio is now a free-to-integrate technology.

    • @qwertyamdx
      @qwertyamdx Месяц назад +6

      @@DrLamalama This information is misleading. It refers to the 'old' DAB standard from the early 90s that has been phased out in most of the world. In case of the current variant, which is the DAB+ standard, the HE-AAC v2 audio encoder is patented and all DAB+ radio manufacturers have to pay a fee for each produced unit. DAB+ does not allow the use of royalty-free codecs (for instance Opus Audio).

      In some countries, exactly the opposite is the fact. State TV sits like a hen on FM broadcast frequencies, because the fear losing ad revenue and market share when broadcasting in DAB+ blocks where lots of private radio companies already are established.

    Français ici qui n'a pas d'infos sur tout ça et qui découvre cette vidéo au hasard...
    Ils quittent la FM ? Ils passent sur un autre media ou genre par webradio, ou bien c'est une radio qui se ferme définitivement et dont "l'entreprise" s'arrête ?? C'est dommage...

      Couleur 3 a cessé sa diffusion en FM le 1er Janvier. Elle continue d'exister mais ne peut être écoutée qu'en DAB+ (La radio numérique terrestre) et via Internet.
      La SRG SSR, le service public Suisse, a décidé d'arrêter tous ses émetteurs FM lors du passage à la nouvelle année, ce qui comprend toutes les radios de la RTS (La Première, Espace 2, Option Musique et donc Couleur 3).

    Switzerland has officially become the second country to switch off FM, the first country was Norway in 2017,
    After its public broadcaster successfully shuts down its FM, the entire radio industry in Switzerland will switch off its FM transmitters by the end of 2026 at the latest.

    • @qwertyamdx
      @qwertyamdx Месяц назад +7

      The Norwegian "FM switch-off" affected only the nationwide stations. Local ones continue to transmit via FM, in fact there are 562 active transmitters in the country and they are licensed to operate at least until 2032. Which means that Norway is far away from becoming "the first country to switch off FM".
