In regards to the Angel Island thing and the recent Frontiers short, the argument that Angel Island never went back to floating goes under the assumption that since the Forces comic, where we also see Angel Island floating again, is a retcon. I would say those could be even further evidence that it went back up at the end of SA1. But it's not like retconning something major like that is unbelievable...

I remember reading somewhere that Silver's inclusion in Sonic Rivals might have actually been a late-development thing.
Matter of fact, according to one of the developers of the Rivals duology, Jet from the then-recent Sonic Riders was supposedly slated to be a playable in Rivals. On account of Sonic 06 being on its last portion of development, it's possible that Jet was replaced with Silver to coincide with the release of 06 (especially since Rivals was released barely a week afterwards).

Eggman Nega's entire character concept makes MORE Sense from the future than from Blaze's world. Especially his name. It reminds me of the Reverse Flash from DC. A guy from the future obsessed with someone from the past, and makes his entire identity into being that guy's opposite.

  • @numbug1234
    @numbug1234 2 года назад +51

The worst part about Eggman Nega is the fact that while Blaze's retcon was undone (and likely an accidental development due to the rushed nature of the game, given that in-game doesn't explicitly say she's FROM the future and promotional material (including the leaked script) still keep the same backstory), Dr. Eggman Nega's retcon was kept in.
So even when both characters of Sonic Rush get their origins changed, only one of them actually gets fixed to how it is meant to be while the other one's origin is double downed.
And this also fucks up the canon a lot more, since now Sonic Rush HAS to be canon because of Blaze, but the Eggman Nega of that game can't be canon because he's entirely different than in Rivals, and yet Rivals also has to be canon since it's Silver's reintroduction and he continues to exist after this game.
Oh, and don't forget how, because Rivals and Rivals 2 never released in Japan, the JP fandom's first introduction to post-timeline-boot Silver is Sonic Colours DS. Where Sonic already knows Silver.
Gee, fantastic. I love this franchise most of the time, but this sure as hell isn't one of those times.

It was always weird to me that Sega keeps bringing him back more than Zavoc and they don't even try to explain the bullshit that comes with him. Like is Silver like a time cop or something? Why is he the only person time traveling to fix shit? How is he able to come to different time periods does he have a time machine or a weird magical stone to do this shit? And why does he have these weird Psychic powers?? Is this some form of chaos energy like it's such an outlandish ability even for Sonic characters to just be born to do some shit like that? And does he have some connection to Sonic, Shadow or Amy in some way? It seems kinda odd that Sonic Team would deliberately make him a hedgehog on not even hint to it like with Shadow being a parallel to Sonic in many ways.

Iizuka did later clarify that Eggman Nega IS from the future, and Blaze IS from another dimension.
Since the Rivals games never released in Japan, Japan's first introduction to the descendant backstory was in the story mode of the 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, where Tails refers to Eggman Nega as Eggman's descendant who traveled back in time to cause trouble, but was defeated by Sonic and Blaze.
Tokyo 2020 also uses this backstory both in Eggman Nega's character profile. Sonic, Eggman, Mario, Bowser get trapped inside of a video game console created by Eggman, and Luigi and Tails team up with Bowser Jr. and Eggman Nega to get them out. Nega says he's embarrassed to be a member of Eggman's family, and even Eggman himself calls Nega his descendant.
So while Nega WAS orignally intended to be from Blaze's dimension, the current story is that he's from the future and simply traveled back in time and to her dimension. Note that in Rush Adventure, released after Rivals, Nega doesn't refer to her dimension as "his world" or "their world" when talking to Blaze anymore, he just says "this world".

the way I saw the whole "is nega from the soul dimention or the future" thing when I didn't really care about the official sonic canon by following what was said in interviews, was that the soul dimension and the future 'dimension' are the same, with the the soul/future dimension being an alternative dimension that is somewhat parrallel to sonic's world while also being influenced sonic's world as if it were its past(basically an extension of how 06 treated the future as a single place)
then this explained why boaze was in he future in 06 and why nega has contradicting origins
personnally I still really like this interpretation even if I now know it's not the 'intended' one, because even after all this time we barely know anything of the future and the soul dimention(right now all we know about the future is that silver exists), so instead of having two fully empty world we'd instead have only one almost empty dimension

Not to defend the story per se, but I think Silver's lack of a proper introduction in Rivals 1 is largely due to marketing. Rivals was released, like, less than a week after Sonic '06, and so Silver was really only included as cross-promotion. Those who played Rivals first might be compelled to give '06 a try just to learn more about this new character, and those that played '06 first would already know him. And since both games were being developed at the same time, it can also be assumed that -- like usual -- the two teams probably didn't have a whole lot of communication going on.

My head cannon is that, due to Eggman Nega hating how much Eggman ruined the family tree’s reputation from his failures, he tries everything in his power to be more successful then Eggman in anything he does, no matter if it destroys the world or not. His nick name “Eggman Nega” is to show how he is the negative Eggman, where Eggman is always a failure, Nega is always a succeeder, it’s why he is such a salty loser.
And he tries to take over the Sol Dimension since it’s a great way to take over in multiple dimensions. He pretends he’s from the Sol Dimension in Rush, and maybe Rush Adventure, to trick Eggman so he could make both of them successful and save the family tree. I know, but my pull, but it’s the best I can come up with.

No, it's *always* been like that. Sonic games have *always* bent the rules of the canon and retconned past events. They just told stories they wanted to tell and didn't sweat the overarching details.
The "Sonic timeline" has never really been a thing beyond the absolute broadest sense of the term. The games basically just take place in the order they were released, and if there are contradictions and retcons, it's simply because Sonic Team decided those didn't matter.

Silver going back to the future only to find it fucked up again is a running plot point in the Archie and IDW comics. Well, until recently. They pulled that once in IDW and now that his future is nice, he decides to hang out in the past just because of all the friends he made there.

Also it's unclear to me whether Nega was made for Rush, because Rivals leaked to the press in early 2005, and there exists a concept art sketch of a suspiciously Eggman Nega (as in the negative of Eggman, so a thin scientist with hair and goatee but no moustache) looking design alongside a drawing of the Yeti enemy.

Whenever anything in Sonic the Hedgehog stops making sense, I usually blame time travel which usually means Silver screwed up something in the past that changed the present (possibly retconning and/or rebooting the series) and caused a new problem in the future which also changes Silver’s origin and sends him back to the past again and the cycle repeats indefinitely maintaining the constants but changing the variables each time.

Silver from his very conception is a very "Don't think about it" kind of character. When you start looking into him he doesn't really make any sense. He's from a future where realistically nothing should be going on because it's covered in fire and lava. Everyone and everything should be long dead with what we see way befire he is even born. He's friends with Blaze who also seems to be from there which is its own problem, etc.

Blaze doesn't get to return, yet Silver is constantly there? He played a big role in both Forces and the IDW comics.

I would like the concept of a "cannon event" to exist in the Sonic universe, that is, that no matter what happens, Silver remains an inevitable element in Sonic's timeline. and with this establish that there are things that simply cannot be avoided, but also not explicitly say what or who falls into this equation.

    • @harryenchiladas8826

I understand where you're going with the reinterpretation of Tails, it's very good, except for the point that you make the protagonist lose twice in a row at the beginning. Unfortunately games are not just stories, they are also games, so you have to consider that the player needs some minimal feeling of completing something to stay interested in the game. I have two cases, The Great Ace Attorney, in which your graphic novel character wins trials and solves mysteries (that is, the core of the game is achieved, reaching the truth). But you are nothing more than a foreign student, so You don't have much experience or power, and you see how you can't get people convicted or you just freed someone dangerous. Another case closer to platforming is MegaManX, with x losing against Vile, but Zero rescuing you and showing that that is the model to follow. Then in the final levels, once Zero is defeated by Vile, unfortunately you cannot beat him despite all your power, so Zero sacrifices himself and destroys Vile's armor, allowing you to take out your anger on the unarmed Vile and Zero before dying he gave you his Buster

If they wanted to make Silver one of Eggman Nega's arch enemies, much like Blaze, then why not just have Silver be part of the Sol Dimension from the get-go? And considering they're often seen together in current pieces of media, it would potentially save a lot of continuity headaches & would make for decent spinoffs/sequels of the Sonic Rush games, that wouldn't have to involve Sonic & co for most of them if may be. If SEGA wanted to reboot Silver's character without time shenanigans. Just a thought.

I'm surprised you didn't bring up Chaos into this story. He could appear at the end being extremely pissed that Nega is feeding Chaos to Ifrit, considering he's the guardian of them. He could also use the seven emeralds to become perfect Chaos, but use the possitive energy instead of negative, which could give him a different appearance. Chaos and Ifrit could fight like a Godzilla battle while the other characters could be supporting roles in the fight. This could be a way of redeeming Chaos's actions of the past, and potentially give him a new title instead of only being known as a God of Distruction.

As much as i hate the entire Eggman Nega debackle, i have to go on Rivals' side considering that the Rivals games explain Nega's origins in the most detail.
He's a descendant of Dr. Eggman from 200 years in the future. Having adopted the Eggman name from his great great great grandfather, in a cruel twist of irony he became just as pathetic if not more than the original Eggman. Having lost all credibility and threat, essentially ruining the Eggman name, he jumped to the Sol Dimension, which he possibly made his home for a period of time, being his own brand of nuisance to it's inhabitants. After his defeat at the hands of Sonic and Blaze after meeting his grandfather, it's most likely that despite the release order, Rush Adventure comes after it, followed by the Rivals games afterwards.
After the defeat in Rush Adventure, Nega may have been disappointed by his great grandfather and grown a hatred towards him, blaming Eggman for his shortcomings in true Eggman fashion, beginning the events of the Rivals games.,

I really like the concept of Nega being Eggman’s descendant. Shame it had to come at the cost of screwing over the Sonic continuity even more than it already is. My ideal situation would’ve been Nega being a descendant from the start with a different character taking Nega’s roles in Rush; perhaps a rivaling kingdom that uses knights rather than Eggman’s robots to make the Sol Dimension even more unique.
As for Silver, it would’ve been cool if 06 had maybe used the timeline changing resulting in Silver’s death as a plot point, make Silver take the sacrifice rather than Blaze.

I respectfully disagree abt Eggman Nega's retcon. He never really made sense to me as an Alt Eggman from Blaze's world considering the Sol Dimension and Nega reference the Chaos dimension characters in completely different ways. Everything else in Sol is similar, but also very different. Nega is the only one that is just a straight up copy of his counterpart. I'm glad they fixed that with the retcon. I also think it's totally plausible he pretended to be alt Eggman just like he pretends to be the real Eggman here.
As for the name, I would also say it makes more sense. You yourself said the name (and the design) made little sense in Rush, but here it can be taken to have a similar meaning to Reverse Flash. Nega hates Eggman, so he calls himself Negative Eggman to show that he is different from his ancestor. He is opposite and wont ruin his family name like Ivo did.

As much as I think the Rivals games are underrated, especially Rivals 2...yeah, it wasn't because of the stories lol. I mean I just kind of ignore the stories in games like this, but they still could've done better with them.
So an idea that I just thought of is a game where it stars Silver and Blaze going through and trying to fix all the dimensions that Sonic Team has created with their uncaring nature toward continuity, but disguise it as a villain trying to do evil things with the dimensions. Really do something interesting with the time stuff with Silver and the dimensional stuff with Blaze.
What Sonic Team would most likely end up doing with an idea like that is make a new character or two instead of Silver and Blaze and their whole purpose is to watch the dimensions and Sonic would befriend them, but in games afterwards, they'd re-appear for no good story reasons lol.

We could also spin it as Dr. Eggman created Metal Robotnik to continue his campaign for world domination after death or whatever. Then Sonic will have an Eggman, Silver will have one, and so will Blaze. It would also clear up Nega and the future/different dimension fiasco.

even in stories like that which seem simple , you still manage to find a lot of depth in them , wonder how it is for other sonic games any way like from 2010s
how ever , there is some thing i wanted to tell you rearding amy which is un related to this video but might explain why her characterization was not that good in 2000s , is that i once heard you say some thing in your sonic battle video about her theme being similar to that of 2000s anime girls which made me though about that for a bit , so i did research for a while about that and i found out about some thing that was popular when it comes to anime in 2000s among girls in japan regarding how female characters with love interest are portrayed , and that is
Type B (alias Type Dere or sweet): These Tsundere have deredere as their default mood. They are sweet, kind and generous, but just happen to have a hidden violent side as well. In this case, temper is almost always triggered by someone or something else, usually a Love Interest. Either they have Belligerent Sexual Tension, or are an idiot, or are an Accidental Pervert, or just has no idea how to handle feelings of love and attraction. May also overlap with Violently Protective Girlfriend if her Love Interest is threatened or in danger. This is the "cat" in "bearcat". Type B should not be confused with a Yandere. If a Type B Tsundere were really convinced that their Love Interest didn't want them, they would revert back to the deredere side and probably enter an I Want My Beloved to Be Happy phase
it really made me wonder if that is what sonic team thought regarding portraying amy
