Wyatt’s girlfriend/common law wife, was addicted to laudanum (opium) and eventually died of an overdose.
Doc Holiday suffered from tuberculosis, called consumption at the time.
The scene where Wyatt went goes into the water to square off with Curly Bill Brocius apparently did happen the way it was depicted.

Wyatt Earp is actually buried here in California in colma. I've been to his grave. He has a very modest headstone for the man he was and the legend he created by his actions, good, bad, or indifferent. Yes, this is based on real people and events, even if liberties are taken. On a trip to New Mexico last year, my family and I stopped overnight in Tombstone, AZ. The town center is still preserved as an Old West town, including wooden sidewalks and historical buildings. We ate and drank in a saloon that was still in operation from the time of the movie, rode a stagecoach, and watched a re-enactment of the Gunfight at OK Corral at the actual location. Highly recommend. My boy was so impressed, we named two kittens that we got Doc and Wyatt.

This is one of my family's favorite films. My parents are historians and our historian family friend, Jim Dunham, helped work on this film for it's accuracy, esp. the famous fight. Not only was the movie portrayed almost accurately (even if the story was a little romanticized), not only were the actors top notch and badass, not only were the costumes perfect for the time period, but it also portrayed how cruel and unforgiving the Wild West was, how strong the Earps' brotherly love is, and the unbreakable friendship between Doc and Wyatt (even if they did kinda drifted apart towards the end in real life). Stellar flick! * Chef's kiss *

Glad you finally got to this, man. Awesome movie. Yes, Wyatt Earp was a real person, legendary law man. He was said to be fearless and abnormally calm under pressure. He also probably wasn't such a nice guy in real life. I read somewhere that he probably dabbled in pimping and being a gun-for-hire. He may have even murdered several people in cold blood for committing minor offenses against him, and then hiding behind his badge to avoid punishment. That's the wild west for you, I guess! But aside from that, I heard most of this was pretty accurate.

In America, the entirety of our culture was built upon the use of force to stand up against tyranny. So, it was enshrined in our constitution, that the bearing of arms to defend yourself, especially against your government, was a fundamental right. I understand why other countries have a hard time grasping the idea, but our nation was born from armed revolution.

In regards with Wyatt's "wife"Maddie (I say wife in quotes because they never actually got married, but they were together for so long they might as well have) there was a deleted scene with Wyatt and Maddie addressing her laudanum addiction and their falling out of love, and they really shouldn't have cut from the movie. If you ever watch the extended cut of the movie or watch the deleted scenes, do it, it's worth the watch.
Also, when Wyatt went out to kill Curly Bill out in the open in the water, the people who witnessed him described it as nothing short of a miracle he didn't get shot.

Here are some examples and very cool fact Wyatt was never shot in real life during his time at Tombstone and yes in real life he did in fact go down to the river and shoot the leader of the Cowboys Curly Bill there was alot of bullet holes in his coat but not him as well as His brother Morgan did in fact die exactly as the film showed even his dog was there and at the river one of the Cowboys survived and crawled to a nearby barn as he bled out he told the family something along the line of Wyatt being the horseman of death then he died of blood loss. His band of Immortals were real if after covid you have the time and money go to Tombstone to see its wonders and follow his Revenge trail ( it is like the freedom trial in Boston) and where the shootout at the O.K. Fuuny you mention nobody is drinking water and drinking alcohol all the time, that was the thing back in those days, drinking water was almost never purified, and so you had a chance of drinking water from a river/creek/or stream and getting sick from it, bacteria and such couldn't form in alcohol so it was always a safer bet than potentially getting sick from non purified water.

I have to admit, I saw this in theater when it came out.... I bought it on VHS, I’ve watched it in excess of 50 times since then. I did NOT like Val Kilmer prior to this movie. I became a huge fan of him with this one. He darn near stole the movie, but Kurt can hold his own with anyone.

It is huckleberry in the script but you are right it does sound that way as well. But everyplace says huckleberry, I guess you can pick and choose which one you like better since they both work.

@@lindseygreer5814 Actually, "huckle bearer" never existed prior to being posted on the internet in the late 1990's. It hasn't been found an any old text, newspaper, dictionary...nothing, from back in those days, or any other time prior to the late 90's. It simply didn't exist.
And "Huckle" was never a word for "casket handle", either. That word IS in old dictionaries, but the only definitions are "hip" "bump" or "hump".
The movie is partially based on the 1920's novel "Tombstone: An Iliad of the Southwest" by Walter Noble Burns. The "play for blood" scene is taken from the book...and in the book, Doc said the same thing as in the movie: "I'm your huckleberry. That's just my game".
And then there's this quote from Val Kilmer...whose own book, btw, is titled "I'm Your Huckleberry"
"By the way, despite some fans' contention that in the 1800s the handles of caskets were called huckles and thus the word huckle bearer was a term for pall bearer, I do not say, “I'm your huckle bearer.” I say, “I'm your huckleberry,” connotating, “I'm your man. You've met your match.” Val Kilmer Aug 24, 2020

People didn't have easy access to water back then so the onky thing to drink was alcohol.

Man, you missed a ton of great quotes in the movie because you did too much talking. I had to discontinue watching the reaction because of that.
