    Nice job I don't think I would have the balls to go that for out on a dead limb. Then rig from it. But very nicely done I love your vids no Hollywood bull just getting the job done well done my friend

      Jason Cottrell thanks, i stress tested allot of the limbs with throwlines from the ground. The crazy thing is...that long limb was the only green on the tree. The tree was die from top down, wich makes since that this is the last green limb because it was the lowest major collar.

      I have those same worries, but 24hrs of planning & thinking it out helped allot. I have a small scale tree in my basement w/ mini rings & ropes. This allows me to demo the job ideas I have, with the small scale model i have. It allows me to be extremely technical with my gameplan. I also suggest taking video/pictures, so you can go home and spend time examining & planning for the task. STAY SAFE Joe & congrats on the Zrunner

    How do you like that afb? I have one and we never use it. Really hard to run rope back through it after you rig a limb down.

    • @StihlChainsaws
      @StihlChainsaws  6 лет назад

      Tree Cannibal if i rarely use the third rap, but i do use two often. I notice that if you have your line redirected & not pulling straight down....its difficult. I usually replace the porta wrap with a beast ring. ALSO...i like the AFB as a replacement for the portawrap. It works good at the base of a tree when using speedline technique

    • @StihlChainsaws

      I like to turn my back to the area im headed, wich points me at my tie in. Keep constant leverage on your hips, & start backing my way towards desired spot. TIP/Throw your excess line towards the where you wanna go, so things run smoother while limb walking.
      Make a hook & tie it to your tail of climb line, so you can throw it there & use it as leverage

    • @StihlChainsaws
      @StihlChainsaws  6 лет назад

      mo joe ya...i wouldnt use it as a primary rigging point, but i was able to use it as a secondary point. Wich allowed me to spread the forces from the trunk to the branch. Doing that actually pulled back on the limb instead of down, like it would of if it were the primary.
      Hope that explained my thought process....wasnt about taking chances as much as it was making educated decisions.

      I can honestly say, that during my +20yr career I have never needed a crane. That's something I never really thought about, because I feel like there is always a way to do it without one. I have had jobs that are crazy bad, but after a few hours & sometimes days of strategizing....I have always been able to make it work!
      REALLY GOOD QUESTION THOUGH......😉👍

  • @cesspool1676
    @cesspool1676 3 года назад

    It always make me nervous to see guys tie in the middle of the log. The main reason to keep your line to the butt end is to keep you safe. When you free up your piece it immediately falls away and below you...below your knot. When you tie it mid way and it doesn't run fast enough with an angle to the rigging point it can "helicopter" around smacking into you or damaging a tree you are trying to prune. Your ground guy can put you in a bad spot. Tying close to the butt end let's you know whats high enough, because the log falls straight not sideways, to stay out of harms way even if the ground man holds the line tight. If I ever cheat the line out the log I always use a secondary line to prevent any unwanted swing. I can tell you love your work with the gear you use and some srt. I can tell you are an experienced climber and still do much right like your nice clean rigging setup.. Stay safe.

    Rigging logs in the center is a pretty foolish thing to do. There is a few reasons to keep your rigging line to the butt end.

      @StihlChainsaws  3 года назад

      Explain.....
      Teach me....

    • @StihlChainsaws
      @StihlChainsaws  3 года назад

      There is also reasons to tie to the middle, like no shockload, better control, & the ability to keep the peice more stationary. A good climber should use all the techniques, depending on the situation. I also tip tie, when others wouldn't. I'm not telling anyone to change their opinion....use what you want & use what makes you feel comfortable. I use whatever method is needed for the situation at hand. If base tieing is what makes you feel comfortable....keep doing it. But I wouldn't go around trolling other climbers & calling them "Foolish", just because you would do it different.
