That was a gorgeous vessel as she should be being a Hans.
That would have been a real joy to live aboard and sail, just stunning, fast and comfortable.
What more could you want?
Fair winds, following sails, safe travels and God Bless...
You said something profound that really hit me: "just do it"!
I'm 50 now so, basically, I'm half dead. Therefore I want to sell my home and get a boat big enough to live in full-time, preferably a 48'. I've narrowed it down to either a Rassy, IP, HC or an Amel. There's a really , really nice, 1988 HC trawler for sale that is absolutely gorgeous, but the price is a bit out of my reach right now. I could try to take out a loan, but I want to avoid that as much as possible. Any tips Sir Tim?
I looked for you t the boat show 😊 The rain that first morning was brutal... Parking was. nightmare... City of Annapolis does NOT care about guests at all...
Agree! We finally found a boat for us! Gilardoni Caipirinha.. can't wait to be on her!
Thanks Tim, what a great experience for you and your son. Please continue.
I watch a number of RUclips sailing channels. I follow Sam Holmes and Wind Hippy, for the smaller boats (less than 30 ft), How To Sail Oceans and Magic Carpet, for mid-size boats (30 to 40 ft), and Adventures of an Old Sea Dog, and Sailing Wisdom, for larger boats (40 ft plus). I think I have learned more about yacht design by watching these channels (and yours) than I have even going to school to study it.
I have learned that Beam says more about a boat's true size than length.
I have learned that IOR influenced cruising boats make damned decent live aboard boats, as they are sufficiently seaworthy, they have a decent amount of on board space, and they have the performance corner pretty much nailed.
Their only drawback is their huge jib. I'd be inclined to split it up into two smaller ones. But I have seen evidence that a sufficiently durable roller-furling jib can work quite well (just don't skimp on it).
That boat you stayed on is GORGEOUS 💃
Another great video. Love the purchase checklist. I was blessed to find out perfect girl and love every minute I’m on her. And if I’m not on her, I’m thinking about when I can get back aboard.
Congratulations on some good father-son time.
Enjoyed, nice episode
Would love to see a video on the "smallest draft but still beamy" boats, that are ideal for Bahamas exploring ... ❤
Give it a 35ft max length to get the cheapest cruiser pass, too.
@@jevidar EXCELLENT point 💪
@@jevidar I wonder if you purchased a fixer upper down in the Bahamas, and kept it there, if you would avoid these "passes" ? Also, do you know what these cases typically cost ?
@@jevidar Thanks so much ! Fascinating... I know a guy who just parked an old houseboat down in the lower bahamas.. uses it as a vacation condo... Hysterical in that he is minutes away form 5 million dollar beachfront homes and gets away with this.. Id love to find a salvage cat or a beamy boat to just "park" down there.... Dreams....
Hans Christian...the dream boat that I would never pay enough attention to the wood. So sad to know I will never own one, for the boats sake.
Excellent episode. And I think the perfect boat is a moving target .
It would seem that some of the advantages and disadvantages are obvious but what are the advantages and disadvantages of a keel stepped mast and a deck stepped mast?
yes i would like to lern more about this
Enjoyed the video. Regarding the "checklist" the first question any sailor in Europe will ask is "what is your program?" You allude to your program of sailing the Caribbean and living aboard, but for anyone else, that is the question they need to answer. Do they just want to kick around their local waters? Do they want to do the Med? Cross oceans? First define the program and then, as you say, just buy something that can get you started on your program (provided you can convince your partner😞).
Love Hans Christian yachts.
Good episode, but not one of your best. You seem to have occasionally confused the two different 43 footers built by Hans Christian. There’s the Hans Christian 43, all of which had canoe sterns, and there’s the Christina 43, which all had a transom. Same builder, totally different boats. An easy mistake but you usually research things better.
is the 1987 ericson 34-2 sailboat any good
Good day and thank you for your wonderfully informative videos. I would really like to know your experience with yacht insurance. Perhaps you did a video already? Cheers!
From what your were saying about your dream boat check out the Gozzards, not realy a race boat but cover almost everything else you talked about
that 43 is sweet!
I know you love those go fast boat but have you put any thought into a Pearson 35? Big beem small draft with a centerboard.
FIRST
I was dead set on a Morgan 41 but ended up with a Prout 37 Cat. See you in the Bahamas.
I only went on the Garcia at the show, and thought that It would do nicely, no need to look further, although also like the boat I have.
There is nothing as welcoming as the sailing community ✌️ just a heads up you may want to check the validity of a learners permit out of the country. I found out the hard way 🍻
Sorry I missed you at the show, but I elected to do some two-wheeled wind therapy on Saturday instead. Glad you and your son had a good time. That drive through PA is my favorite part about going home to WNY.
OKAY !!! I have just gottta ask???? How many kids DO you have lol??
Another great vid. I finally got through the playlist. Are you heading back south soon?
Sending love from Alberta
The Hans Christian 36 is my dream boat ❤, got this Pullmans Birth and the head with only 36 feet 🤯 but soooo expensive.
I made the drive out too and slept in my car. Driving though PA in mid October was a treat! That was my first time at the show! It was great being around other sailors! Sorry I missed you.
Thanks for the video.
well shucks....... why didn't i see you at the boat show?
BOREAL 47.2
Well said! 100%
what episode is the info on why you wouldnt get a watermaker?
I know the canoe stern is good in following seas, but it just doesn't look right to me.
HC are simply great ships, the 38 ft mark 2 its my sweetspot. Hamptons 43 are another gem in my view.
Sounds like you designed your trip with your son perfectly !
How can you do a sail boat purchase guide and not list any prices?
I. WANT. THAT. SHIRT!!!!!!
🤩🤩🤩🙏🙏🙏💚💚💙💙
🤨
When are you going to start sailing again?
did you see the outbound 46 I need one lol
What? No Ultra anchor???
i asked this question once, a year or 2 ago. thinking you might have taken it wrong. thinking i might have asked it wrong.
what do you call "fast" and why?
so many boats are listed for sale as "fast" and of the many i have inquired about, when asked, refused a straight, or even semi straight response..
the most recent boat i bought, didn't need explanation, i didn't even need to ask..... records and published documentation are self explanatory.
but. i am looking for a second boat, and I do want fast. fast, safe, and somewhat comfortable, budget minded ocean crossing machine.
so, what is fast, in your mind? and why? please help define this.
thank you kindly sir.
(I ought to email you......)
I know I'm not Tim, but fast is not an easy answer. Mono hull fast is slow compared to a catamaran. Length has alot to do with speed as well. A fast 22 footer is slow compared to a 90 footer. Generally speaking light displacement is faster than heavy displacement. The Hans Christian Christina that Tim was on will do 8.5 knots and that's pretty fast for a heavy displacement cruiser. Hope this answers some of your questions.
@@toddwever4916 thank you for trying to answer that. Much appreciated.
and yes, those Hans' are spectacular sailing machines., both in performance and accommodations (not to forget reliability and safety)
Goood stuff Captain, you deserve a medal for bravery, new driver 70, rain, heck what could possibly go wrong. Been threw the horror when my daughter learned to drive.
IMHO, both of those boats check many of the boxes for a safe passage around the world, I also have a teakie tub, A Tayana 37 Pilot house, not on par with the HC, or Slocum, but not far away either. Really enjoy your videos, tks
Good father. First time I've seen a forward head, but it looks like a bit of a space waster?, no/yes? How does this boat compare to a similarly sized Island Packet?
Love your videos very informative, i can see your passion.
Although your boats are getting bigger and more expensive 😊.
I wandered if you could help future sailer to be. From car topper dingy sailing to trailerable sailboat.
your checklist described my boat. Consider the Hunter 430. It has everything you are looking for and only draws 5 feet.
👍
There is such a thing as a perfect boat. It’s called Kraken :)
The 40’ Han Christian Christina is my favorite blue water boat.
Love returned! Thanks :)
I’m thinking of buying a 1972 Ericson 27 Sailboat this is my first time buying a boat and I saw this boat on the internet and really liked it could you please tell me if it’s a great first buy or if I should stay away thank you .
maybe a wrong title my friend, HC review, not a purchase guide, Lovely boat, estimated price?
$100,000 -$150,000
Great episode I loved it so much information such nice boats wow
On a previous episode you mentioned how men had a problem using the Nature head. Buy a couple of Simply Orange Juice - thick plastic and a large opening - drink and rinse them out and then put in head for men to pee in.
