4 Extreme and Crazy Steadicam Setups that Theoretically Work, Tested

- I decided it would be a lot of fun to test out some crazy steadicam setups that theoretically would work. Incase you also have extremely expensive camera equipment that you like to play with, I explain how to set up the rigs in the way that I did. But you probably shouldn't. hopefully useful to other filmmakers, cinematographers, directors and steadicam operators. this video was really just for fun but I think people will accidentally learn something from it. i had a lot of fun making this video and i have some more ideas of things to try so if people really like it I'll make a part 2.
Take a look at all of my gear

I have seen an operator putting ronin 2 on top of their steadicam in a big production and it worked just like the Trinity. He kind of modified the placement of his monitor to the handle. Maybe try this in the next video? Put any gimbal on top of your steadicam! 🙌
cool idea! thanks!
Fast forward to 2023, everyone is doing that now
@@dennypilot9856 yes they do 🤣🤣
Red mate do the build from the Dynamic Balance sheet where the monitor is in front of the lens, like...in FRONT ;)
hahahaha love it
Enormously entertaining and informative. I have to say I admire your commitment to the project. That much moving and rewiring the rig wears me out just to think about it! And I only fly a Steadicam pilot!
thanks so much man! it did take forever haha
This was very entertaining! Thanks for more brilliant content
Glad you enjoyed it!
I cantttt waittttt!!!!
thanks man! its a good one!
LOVED your intro! Greetings from Germany!
Thanks so much!! Danke!
Excelente explicación
😁👍
This is crazy!
hahahaha
Yeah science experiment! Thank you for important infos! ;)))
You bet!
👍 good one
Thanks ✌️
New subscriber here hoping to become a proficient steady cam operator one day love the content!!
Welcome aboard!
I have zero of this equipment, but I still watched, in hopes that one day I will copy your setup 😂
haha, thanks man. maybe not copy this setup hahaha
EPIC .
👍
Hi Sir.how can you control the iris when you are shoting with the ENG camera ?thanks
for the most part i dont shoot with eng cameras. i have this one for practice. i ether put it in auto or turn it with my hand when im not shooting.
Nice
Thanks
Hi Red hope you can shed some light on something for me. I have an HVR-HD 10000U camera & just bought a Zest flycam system from proaim to use with my cam. However, I'm at my witt's end trying to figure out what cable goes where. As dumb as it sounds, I've got power running through the monitor but no picture on the monitor. None of my cables fit both monitor & camera. Thought perhaps I need to change the monitor or the cam. Any Ideas (PLEASE)???
i don't know the rig but i looked up some pictures quick. i looks like it has an hdmi a power and a composite. i'm not sure what the problem would be. maybe try lowering the resolution of the camera. also check that the output on the camera works when you go directly to the monitor.
Thanks Red will check that out.👍
Your gadget looks intimidating. 😊
hahaha, it seems so at first
hey, what camera do you use in this video?
the camera in the video is an hpx-500. i don't recommend it. the camera that shot most of the video is a bmpcc4k that i would recommend
How do you split your pricing up between rig rental and your hourly rate and other items. I've never been successful at charging for rig rental in Indianapolis.
I wish I could say I have figured that out but I haven't. i prefer to skip the kit fee and get it all as a day rate. that way if we get into overtime i make a lot more.
Makes sense. Thanks!
Where did you buy those weights next to the monitor?

i like it!
What camera is that!

@@SteadiRed I was curious. Once I purchase a steadicam I want to practice with my 5d Mark 3.
What's the name of your steadicam
it is the M1 by tiffen
❤👌👌
😁
Price ?
a lot, but it depends on a lot of factors.
So here's a thought. Your perpendicular experiment wasn't useful in that scenario, but might work pretty well in low mode when shooting in windy conditions, as long as you're using your lower reference monitor to actually see what you're shooting, while the base turned 90 degrees would use the main monitor and batteries as makeshift antlers.
pretty good point, i never thought of it.
I also wonder why you turned the camera perpendicular to the top stage when you could have just turned the lower post (batteries and monitor) perpendicular. Likely the same outcome but no time whatsoever to build.
Peter, I like your idea. I might try that
