This song came into my life 4 years ago when I was extremely depressed and heartbroken one winter. Finally when I was picking up the pieces of myself again, trying to get active and going to the gym and making myself happy, I started to see the light and this song rang constantly in my ears-- convincing me that my life had meaning and all of this pain could build me into a stronger person. Whenever I hear this song, I smile because it always makes me remember that we were made to grow and change-- and that life is a beautiful gift regardless of the pain. It ALWAYS gives me this sense of beautiful neverending hope. Thank you, Washed Out. ♥️
Mate ur my man....... I was in depression too this close to kill myself........ Eventually knew that my family needed me and i recovered and this music has brought me back..... Peace
Amor fati is a Latin phrase loosely translating to "love of fate" or "love of one's fate". It is used to describe an attitude in which one sees everything that happens in one's life, including suffering and loss, as good.
dude i needed this today. i just landed in Iceland and someone stole my 200 dollar glasses within 2 hours of arriving. no worries though man. amor fati
@Nagendra Spoken as one who is suffering. I have suffered things I was sure I would never come back from, sometimes for years at a time. Of course looking back it is clear that had I not suffered those things, I would not have taken the path that would have led me to the things that have been best in my life, and that perhaps I would not have appreciated them as I did. Sometimes it seemed that it was only the suffering of others that would be wrought if I were to leave this world that stopped me from ending it all when I wanted to, but in the end what lead me out of the worst times was the unshakable faith inside me that pain can be transmuted into to beauty, that the deeper and more profound that pain is the more would be the beauty, and the hope that there was goodness beyond the horizon in spite of all reason. I was right, but if I didn't make the decision to believe that I would never have been around long enough to find out that it was true, or even if I had I would never have taken the paths that lead me to that truth.
As I near the end of my 40th year on earth, I listen to and watch this with a very melancholy feeling. Reminds me of younger times when I wasn't as tied down as I am now. Kids are wonderful but I miss the irresponsibility of youth.
42 here. No kids. I would take the kids over the irresponsibility in a heartbeat, but I have none, and the closest I had to one (my dog of fifteen years) is now gone. I guess we cherish what we don't have?
@@themountainsandthesea4121 I decided long ago that I didn't want kids and it's the best decision I ever made. I'm perfectly content being a great uncle to my niece and nephew. To each their own.
You cannot imagine the joy you will experience with your children as they become adults. An Easter Egg gift I never anticipated and it is truly wonderful. I used to feel the same as you too.
I'm now in my 50th year in existence and though I enjoy my life now, there are many times when I wish I'd traveled more and seen more of the world. I've seen much more than most people, but still, the wanderlust is strong and has only slightly waned over the decades as I've grown older and less mobile. The fleeting bliss of youth will always be the greener pastures just over the rise.
42 here and same thing. There's a Madonna song called Drowned World/Substitute For Love that talks about how we fill up our lives with adventure but it's just a Substitute for what's really important, love. If you like this style music you'll likely love that. It's ambient electronica ❤
Iceland was also the first country I visited internationally, about 5 months before my mom died of cancer. In the midst of watching her slow decline, it was a nice reminder of how beautiful life can be outside of the bad times
Lol what trite bullshit. It’s easy to say that as an affluent Westerner. Remember that the vast majority of the people on this planet are struggling to get enough food to eat for today while you’re sitting on your ass listening to these corny, completely false lyrics.

It's because listening to music can be an experience that is the closest thing to experiencing heaven while still on Earth. Words cannot capture the unexplainable beauty it makes us sense and feel. Know that heaven is exponentially more beautiful and then some... X infinity.

This song couldn't have come to me in the most fitting situation. I made friends with people on Discord. When I wasn't at work or with friends locally, I was meeting up with these people online. There were talks about meeting up in real life for years. Then one day it happened. Last month, I flew from California to Massachusetts to meet up with said people in real life. I was hanging out with 4 of them at a Marriott in Tewksbury, MA before we were set to meet up with the rest of the Discord folks in Maine. The next day, we went downstairs to eat breakfast in the dining area of said Marriott. The first song I heard as I was grabbing food was this song. And wow, what a fitting song to listen to that was about to describe the rest of the week with these people! It ended up being one of the best vacations I could ever ask for. Everyone had a great time and there was absolutely no drama. Got to experience many first time activities, with my most favorite one being able to watch the eclipse. We had no idea what fate had in store for us, and I'm sure none of us thought that it would leads us down to the experiences that we had last month. When I think of how fun that week was, I immediately think of this song.
This track was the push to get me over the line, over a devastating heartbreak and to move forward. Travelled and had alot fun, with the hurt been the best thing that ever happened to change my life and experience and see things I never would of. Thankyou Washed Out from over 8-10years when I found you and this track. ❤️❤️
Magic, a whole lot of magic. This video is a dream for my wife and I but we’re currently trapped living the “American dream”. True freedom is what’s this video is all about.
this song not only leaves me speechless but...it takes me to another world where i can no longer feel pain, and also to journey all around to find my true self.
i discovered this song today with a friend and it came just at the right time. i just want to cry listening to this all night. cry to get rid of all my fears, my pain...
I found out this song back in 2012 during my uni years… I fell in love with a guy mainly because of his music taste, so it was him to introduce me to this song… from that moment till now this masterpiece had accompanied me through all crucial events of my life. Covid, war in my homeland, depression and getting an addiction because of all the sh*t that was happening in my life… Today I’m out of depression and addiction that ruined last years of my life, and this song is my anthem, since we must love everything that happens, good or bad. Challenges are meant to make you a better version of yourself. Hugs to everyone who is suffering and struggling now.
...feels good...keep practicing going to this place in your mind...you can do anything you channel your past, present, and future self towards achieving...
I sometimes feel trapped by my life, my debts, my background. I can't just go off and do what I want. I am restricted in some ways. But I can free myself in some other ways. It's good to have songs like this to remind myself of that.
Thinking about this video after 4 nights in Tokyo and headed to Seoul. Nothing encapsulates the wonder and unbridled joy of travel, something that's been so important in my life, so perfectly like this video. Goosebumps and tears. ❤❤❤
Life is full of battles, and we are the unearthly warriors chosen to fight them. You can do this - it is one’s fate, after all. And even when times get tough, always know that you are not alone...alas, today can not be changed, but tomorrow always presents to us a new beginning. So remember to keep your head held high, and never _ever_ give up on what you believe in
Thanks x1000 for this! I'm fighting with deppresing feelings after a break up and i´m also going to face a lot of changes in my life in the following months. Listening to this gives a warm feeling to my heart and soul, and i know the only certainty is that i'll be alright in time ♡
Ernest Greene, obtained a Master of Library and Information Science degree but was unable to find a job as a librarian. Greene moved back in with his parents and started producing songs in his bedroom studio.. I also presume the video footage for this video is from his holiday, he no doubt edited and uploaded the video himself too. It's very well done, in the 80's this was virtually impossible without a contract with the record company but now you can do it yourself. well done.. good song.

Relax, slow down
Let hope, decide
Even though it's hard to forgive

+Blaze Collie don't worry. i am a furry too
This song couldn't have come to me in the most fitting situation.
I love the scenery in this so much. Awesome video.
The sun shining warmly, the breeze hitting your face, good music, good friends, good food, and traveling through nature. The best combination.
The "American Dream" is overpriced.
I love you Washed Out, and I hope to meet you in the future and tell you how much you've helped me through your music.
Now I realize that Next week I'm seeing them performing live.
I just saw you live this evening. Thank you for having this song on your set. Meant a lot to me.
Who else started traveling after hearing this song?
I left my home state and lived outside for two years after.
this song not only leaves me speechless but...it takes me to another world where i can no longer feel pain, and also to journey all around to find my true self.
Such a great flow to this song. Very talented young man.
This video is a good visual summation as to why it's good to travel and expose yourself to new things (like Iceland!) when you're young.
Ernest keeping chillwave floating along.
Love this band. Nostalgic, melancholy, love, excitement. So much wrapped up in this band
A very healing song.
One of the best videos in history for conveying the song's message... feeling.
I was in a real sad mood before this song.
*is this magic?*
Probably already said this and I'm sure it's been said before, one of the best music videos ever. David Fincher with its editing.

i went to Bali last year by myself and i seat on the sand and watching the waves and the sunset, playing this song , definitely changed my life
this song made me want to travel again
+Josiah Burns makes me want to start!
…"your faith decides, the roads you are going to find".
As I was scrolling through the comments I came across this just as it came on in the song.
...feels good...keep practicing going to this place in your mind...you can do anything you channel your past, present, and future self towards achieving...
I sometimes feel trapped by my life, my debts, my background. I can't just go off and do what I want. I am restricted in some ways. But I can free myself in some other ways. It's good to have songs like this to remind myself of that.
we envision our 2 year old boy trekking across a safe and magical place in his 20's...
Não consigo explicar o quanto gosto desta música. ❤️

Sim, eu sou apaixonado na capa desse álbum.

It's very well done, in the 80's this was virtually impossible without a contract with the record company but now you can do it yourself. well done.. good song.
I can listen to this song forever.
