Seeing the Big Boy when it came through town was one of the highlights of my year too. I enjoyed watching all your videos this year. Thanks for all the hard work that you put into them.
We have footage that we have not shown and we’re planning to do a comprehensive big boy show cover in the whole restoration and the various trips last summer.
Glad to see you two Mouseketeers are on the mend. Yes, it has been quite a year. You have brought us much entertainment while looking forward to seeing more. Keep plugging away and a Merry Christmas to you both. Any clear Saturday 12-3pm after the New Year come join the solar astronomers on the front deck of the Natural History Museum. Three of us are railroad geeks. Just have a look.
And of course the random odd story about nothing really at all! I think telling the story of jack Dempsey‘s house was pretty far out there but still pretty fun! Mostly though since the house is just down the street that we’re sort of laid up it was an easy show to make!🌝
Boy that is incredibly true! As it happens I’ll probably need some more spare parts over time, as we all well I suppose, but for the most part it’s so wonderful to be able to walk around and not be in agony, and needing to take pain pills. Back to normal and that’s really wonderful!
I was lucky to see 4014 when it spotted at Chicago , after watching the progress for 4 years it was well worth the wait ! hard to grasp the true size till your touching one of the drivers . The timing was great and seen it while going to the eaa Oshkoch air show . Bill
@@ToyManTelevision I also took in the Ill. R/R museum which was just down the road for 4014's location , Oshkosh is a little like Disney , so many things to do it's best to pick one thing like war birds , but start out with the EAA museum for sure , I flew army helicopters for 26 years that is my connection to aviation . Hello you too! No Siri that’s not TOO that’s TW oh. No TWO. I guess I’ll type. Siri’s in a mood. I am so amazed it this new hip. 20 days and I feel the best in over a year. And no pain killers. In fact the only real pain in my but is in Washington DC. I digress. Super low key Christmas this year. So low you can’t hear it. Only feel it. Karyn is wrapping gifts and I’m resting my but. I cat get away with that right now. In another week I’ll need to be up. But heck, easy. Walked the mall today. With about 2.6 million other people. But almost no pain and as I say with no pills. Walking more than a thousand yard required oxy and a bit to bite on last month. So wow! Hope you too are doing better. Yours is a bit harder. Ok a lot harder. Well it is what it is. We hope for the best, expect the worst and get what we get. Getting old is so hard it’s only even attempted by the most experienced Merry Christmas 🎁🎄
Merry Christmas, y'all, from Texas! Thank you SO MUCH for all the fun and 'screwing around' you have shared with us this year. Prayers for healing and fast recovery.
Howdy! So nice to be able to walk again! The hike on the old CP SP grade almost killed me. Such pain! But I had to do it! But now I can walk a mile without pain. And that’s after just over 2 weeks. Wow.
Hi! Yup. Doing great. Mostly. Walking better than in the last 2 years. But there are challenges for both of us still. But overall great!! Merry Christmas and Hanukkah and whatever you do for the new year!
I grew up in LA. And saw the Big Boy as a young lad at the fairgrounds each year I went to the fair with my father. I now live abroad and could not see the Boy in action, but was happy to see your documenting it's trip, and look forward to more videos next year. To you both, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a prosperous New Year. 🎅🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻 P.S. Sorry you are both laid up, but if one must be, then winter, by the fire, is not so bad a time to be mobility limited. As the weather makes all a bit immobile.... ❄️⛈❄️⛈❄️⛈❄️⛈
You are so welcome and thank you so much for watching. We make the show because we get a kick out of doing it, but the funnest part is seeing other people enjoy it! So thank you for enjoying it it makes it really worthwhile.

Merry Christmas back at you! I assume Santa Claus has no problem finding his way south of the equator. Perhaps someday he’ll open up a branch office at the south pole.
Ah yes, my first RUclips video was the Big Boy and company heading west out of Cheyenne. It was so beautiful. Now, can you tell me why they run a Diesel engine with her, when she out and about?
Yes I can! And for the first time I have it straight from Ed instead of from the Internet or some other random source. First and foremost it’s just there fir when it’s needed. It’s that simple. Mostly fir brakes. Electrical dynamic braking. Which is such an efficient way of applying brakes to the head end of a train UP wants all trains to have and use it. The brake shoes for the big boy cost tens of thousands of dollars so anything we can do to avoid wearing those is a plus. There’s a set of controls for the diesel in both steam locomotives, so the diesel including the brakes can be operated right from the cab of the steam engine. Then if they also need to add some power well heck it’s right there. And sometimes that’s just really handy. Generally speaking the steam engine is doing all of the work, but just in case the extra power is needed or even just sort of wanted it’s there
Trains don’t have steering wheels!! They have a helm and rudder. Looks like a steering wheel. But the helmsman has an eye patch and wood leg. Trivia!! People say “drive” the locomotive. You never drive a locomotive. Drive means to steer. To direct. You operate a locomotive. Not drive.

Great, fun show. Enjoy you and your productions as much as anything I see on You Tube! Never disappointing. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from a wet CA wine country! Get well soon 'bod of yez' (I lived in Chicago for 35 years.) Tom Kibbe
Two of our favorite cities in the whole world or Chicago and San Francisco! Oddly I see a connection between the two although I seem to be the only one who does. But they are both cities with magnificent character.
Having been in the firebox, it’s the size of a small Appartment. Unlike most locomotives the firebox is over a third of the area inside the cylinder. It’s longer than the tubes. Under full fire it’s a blast furnace with temperatures around 2000 degrees. If not for the water leg the side would glow bright red. Yea. Hot.
I pray that you both heal up and have a Merry Christmas. Your videos have been a joy to watch and your temperaments create a very pleasant on-line experience. 2020 here we come ....

Boy you two really got around this year. And thanks for bringing us along I've enjoyed to the videos. I was looking at that 15 inch gauge track and me being me I could see building a layout in 15 gauge I just don't know where I would put it.
Yea Danny and what’s his name have like 40 acres. So easy. Huge project though. Took him like 3 years to scratch build the locomotive. Now about 5 years laying track. And huge cost too. Thousands of spikes at like 2 bucks each. And that’s just spikes!
@@ToyManTelevision my neighbor has a seven and a half inch Gauge Railroad and every now and then he fires it up and we hear the whistle. I'm willing to bet they have over half a mile of track on their 5-acre lot. It goes everywhere on the property. I know they've have been working on it at least 11 years now.
We just love, love, love your vids. Merry Christmas you two. Your not alone with the physical challenges. Looking forward to all your adventures next year. God Bless You. :)

Hope you guys recover soon and have a fantastic Christmas and excellent New Year. Thanks for all the amazing content throughout the year! God bless you both.
Thanks!!! Almost back to abnormal! Both of us! We both have a bit of recovery but generally great! Better than great because the problems are mostly gone!
Honestly 2019 wasn’t much of a year for me. Budget wise. But the Big Boy and the 150th anniversary of the Golden Spike made my year. So did Disney World. Except the fact our Disney World Railroad is still on a temporary closure like the Disneyland Railroad from 2015 to 2016. Except our railroad might circle the park again in 2021. There’s a new roller coaster under construction. So the trains had to stop running to stay out of the way. However it’s been roomerd they might use our trains as a back and forth shuttle from Frontierland to Fantasyland. The Main Street Station is about to get a refurbishment. As of now just like the Disneyland Railroad closure there is a train on display at Main Street Station. I just find our theme park Magic Kingdom isn’t the same without a train circling the park. If they do end up doing the back and forth runs it will make me as happy. My New Years resolution is to try spending more time with my family at the beach in the Summer, as well as take a Disney Cruise.
Hi. And yours is the only locomotive shop people can still get into. Still not easy but at least possible. Security is so tight at Disneyland there is just no way anymore. Glad we got I. When we did. Planning to get out there when the trains are rolling again. So much to see!!!!!
@@ToyManTelevision come and ride The Rocky Mountaineer! The train trip of a lifetime through the Rocky mountains!! I also recommend The Canadian (Via Rail passenger train) This travelles right across Canada!!!
We got some good stuff in St. George just a taste of it here. That was a fun trip, one last little outing before going into the hospital. Just a few days before Karyn surgery, which was just a week before my surgery. My gosh we pack a lot in. I’ll bet give them a chance I could stuff 50 pounds of manure in a 20 pound bag.
This was a great video to sum up the year. You had a great selection of videos compiled into one. It was awesome to see some of the footage again as well as some new material. Here's to a better year in 2020, hopefully you both heal up fast, and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Hi! Yes we will be seeing the new year in 2020! Some fun stuff coming up and we’re looking forward to getting back on the road when the weather is good and in the meantime working on projects and railroads and stuff
@@ToyManTelevision heck I'm still in a holding pattern with my projects. Lack of room and the cold puts a damper on things. Looking forward to new episodes in the upcoming year. Thank you once again for another wonderful year. It's going to be tough topping the Big Boy, but I have a feeling that you'll come up with something that will blow our minds away.
During the first part of the video you showed a 3d printers and lazer cutter. I have experience with thouse abd here is some tips. For the lazer, use the thick wood for structures and for the printer, be sure you under stand the scale you are set up on befor you print. And somtimes small things should be sepertly applied insted of being printed together. Be sure to ask for help for the first prints and cuts untill you get the hang of it. And use common sense around these muchines, you can get burned or cut or hurt by accident. For a future video, could you do a video on Christmas layouts.
We put a Christmas train set up a few years ago. I don’t think that guy is still doing it but he would convert his entire backyard into a garden railroad and then tent over the whole thing and then open it to the public as a fundraiser for the food pantry. My first attempt at 3-D printing was a human character and getting it the right size was the real trick. Finally figured that out but when I first sent it in to the 3-D printing company they said it was 3 feet tall and they couldn’t do it!
G’day! Thanks for watching. Be sure to share with friends. Or not friends. Even tell people you don’t care for! Her’s how that works. If you don’t like them they probably don’t like the things you like. Therefore they will be bored to tears! And that will be fun revenge for you!
We had a great season! Well... yes. We sort of knew about 3985 two years ago. Knew it would come. We were there and saw the problems with 3985. It’s really why 4014 was restored. 6 years ago it was realized that could be done for less than rebuilding 3985. Don’t get me wrong, 3885 is rebuildable!! But it needs two boiler sections replaced and that’s expensive But NEVER say never. But you a buck someday it gets rebuilt .
Toy Man Television new to the channel, will definitely be sticking around. Enjoy your videos and perspective! Love the big boy, but if you look back at the earlier steam team updates, he does basically promise the challenger will be rebuilt ...then back tracked on it with that sad email we all got 🤔 Speaking of ed, in one of the many videos I binged last night, you show a teaser of him in the tool car saying you guys talk with him on another episode, which I have gone nuts trying to find, did you ever post that content? 😂 some people don’t like Ed, but I think he really cares about trains and the program. He even gave out his cell number to people and said he’d address their concerns, I never did text him though 🤷🏻♂️
Yes no big tree and no train this year all still packed up. Just can’t get down on the floor. Well I can it’s the getting back up that would be a real trick so I’m avoiding it. In fact if I find myself down there I’ll probably have to call 911. But there will be a train and the train station in a tree and all wonderful things next year. This year we have a small and beautiful tree. And in some ways that’s even better!
Yup. I actually have a ton of footage that I need to get cleared to use. Stuff that other people have shot or stuff that I promised the UP wouldn’t show to anyone. And I’m trying to get all that stuff released so I can build a show out of it.
Do you have any videos of Steve's railroad before he started to remodel it? I really like when you show those little side bars of the local area. Being on the east coast, it gives me a better idea of the area you are in. Thanks for expanding my horizons and Merry Christmas!
I’ll bet I have well over 1000 pictures and video clips of that railroad! I should try going through the really old stuff and see just what I have, but I think I even have stuff for what it was down in his living room. You had to go through a duck under to come in through the front door!
@@ToyManTelevision Very nice! Perhaps when he is done with his latest version, you could show the before and after. Thanks again for your very fun videos and good luck with your recoveries. My mom just had both of her hips replaced over the past eight months so I empathize with you. Good luck and I wish the two of you a continued successful recovery.
Nope it’s powered through the track. Because he also runs steam. And part of it it trolley wire. Note the trolley pols on the cans! And powered trolley pole is just nits. You need to reverse the pole to reverse the locomotive. Easy on a real trolley. Not on a model.
@@ToyManTelevision I have seen two videos of an operation in (I think) Minnesota where there is a mile or so of trolley track and they run the car both ways without reversing the pole. I almost couldn't believe it. But they are not moving very fast. Still not a good idea.
We want to get back to Omaha. Even though Ed lives in colorado and the locomotive is in Cheyenne the scheduling office is in Omaha. So Ed drives a lot.

Hi!!!!! Merry Christmas 🎁🎄. Thanks again. Really looking forward to next summer walking grades and stuff with no cane or pain!! Hopefully.
Yep. It's almost Christmas.
Yes!! Yo! Santa!! I want a K28!!
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Loved it. Can't wait for the New Year.
Hi and merry Christmas back to ya
Hope you guys recover soon and have a fantastic Christmas and excellent New Year. Thanks for all the amazing content throughout the year! God bless you both.
Thanks!!! Almost back to abnormal! Both of us! We both have a bit of recovery but generally great! Better than great because the problems are mostly gone!
@@ToyManTelevision That's good to hear 😊👍👍
Merry Christmas my friends
Hi! And merry Christmas right back. And a happy prosperous and wonderful new year seen in full 2020 vision.
Merry Christmas and happy New year from Canada!!
Hi. Wanna come ride your trains!
@@ToyManTelevision come and ride The Rocky Mountaineer! The train trip of a lifetime through the Rocky mountains!! I also recommend The Canadian (Via Rail passenger train) This travelles right across Canada!!!
Nice yearly recap. I'm looking forward the different layouts shows.
Merry Christmas
We got some good stuff in St. George just a taste of it here. That was a fun trip, one last little outing before going into the hospital. Just a few days before Karyn surgery, which was just a week before my surgery. My gosh we pack a lot in. I’ll bet give them a chance I could stuff 50 pounds of manure in a 20 pound bag.
Merry Christmas And Happy New year fantastic videos of bigboy looking forward to more.
All the best!
Have enjoyed your video's for the past six months. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Thanks and merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Robert Emmons hope so!!
enjoyed that very much and a healthy new year to you
Thanks! So far so great! Both doing well.
I saw the Big Boy when it came to Texas
The shot in the show on the bridge is at El Paso.
@@ToyManTelevision I saw it when it arrived in Palestine
God Bless - Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas right back!!
Merry Christmas and happy new year
Now this is really fun wonderful video!
More big boy coming. And other screwing around.
Awesome video liked 🚂🚄
Thanks! Merry Christmas 🎄
Merry Xmas to u both from South Aystralia ..have enjoyed your channel since finding you very early this year..regards and best wishes..
G’day! Thanks for watching. Be sure to share with friends. Or not friends. Even tell people you don’t care for! Her’s how that works. If you don’t like them they probably don’t like the things you like. Therefore they will be bored to tears! And that will be fun revenge for you!
Did you hear UP retired 3985???
Hope you guys had a wonderful holiday season! 😁
Video was over too fast, really enjoy both of you. Where was the train under the tree? Get well soon and Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas right back at you! And happy new year!
Pl's keep up the great work!!!
Well thank you for watching! As much fun as the show is to make the best part is seeing other people enjoy it. So thank you.
@@ToyManTelevision Best wishes for improved health.
Great shots of the big boy!! Did you sneak some new ones in?
Yup. I actually have a ton of footage that I need to get cleared to use. Stuff that other people have shot or stuff that I promised the UP wouldn’t show to anyone. And I’m trying to get all that stuff released so I can build a show out of it.
Very excellent videos we enjoy all of y'alls videos keep up the excellent work and Merry Christmas to y'all and happy new year
Merry Christmas and happy new year right back at you
Thank you for all you do, keep screwing around
Thank you for watching. More coming in spite of COPPA LAWS. We are planning a show about changes to the channel because of that! Minor changes
nice video man
Thanks!!!! Much more 2 come.
Will be an interesting 2020.Keep up the good work.
Looking forward to 2020. Perfect sight!
Love your videos and channel Merry Christmas and happy New Year to the both of you thank you
Hi. Thanks and merry Christmas and happy new year 🎈
Happy Christmas from Fen End Railway (uk)
We wanna come play.
Merry Christmas to you both.
When is the Sacramento Northern layout going to be posted?
Thx again
Hi. I’m not sure on the Sacramento northern and southern Pacific Proto 48 rail road it’ll be going up really soon like next few weeks.
merry Christmas you two. Bill said that.
Merry Christmas right back to you
I liked the video. I hope you both are having a Happy New Year!
Hi. Yup all good. Better health. New hip and stuff. Happy new year back
Do you have any videos of Steve's railroad before he started to remodel it?
PanzerDave yup. My other hip and a knee also need doing. But the bad hip is now in the history books. Onwards!
@@ToyManTelevision Hip, Hip, Hooray! : )
Merry Christmas. I bought you a van with a Extra Seat for me.
I had a van once really enjoyed it! Oldsmobile silhouette. We called the Dustbuster
Does the Sacramento proto 48 actually power from the pantograph?
Nope it’s powered through the track. Because he also runs steam. And part of it it trolley wire. Note the trolley pols on the cans! And powered trolley pole is just nits. You need to reverse the pole to reverse the locomotive. Easy on a real trolley. Not on a model.
@@ToyManTelevision I have seen two videos of an operation in (I think) Minnesota where there is a mile or so of trolley track and they run the car both ways without reversing the pole. I almost couldn't believe it. But they are not moving very fast. Still not a good idea.
I went to see 4014 in Omaha
We want to get back to Omaha. Even though Ed lives in colorado and the locomotive is in Cheyenne the scheduling office is in Omaha. So Ed drives a lot.
to you and your lovely wife have a nice christams and happy new year i love you vidoes this year to i am looking foword looking for your 2020 video tape some of your christmas with you family that be nice to look at your friend timmy bentz from maryland
We’re having a few people over on Christmas of course, and that will be fun to put up. Sadly for me most of my family is gone. There is me and that’s about it. But now I have Karyn! And Karyn has kids! And grandkids!!!!!!!
3D printers are getting cheaper and cheaper
And better!!!
Soon, you will not need Walthers model kits anymore. You can make and sell your own kits, and stuff.
I didn't watch this video because of the commercials at the beginning! Thumbs down!!! NO MORE U-TUBE COMMERCIALS!!!
Most can be skipped. Mostly.
