Tesla stock swings too much to calmly accumulate and hold, After buying TSLA shares for just over 10 years, i'm struggling to make gains presently. How do i adjust or revamp my $2M portfolio? Should i consider some defensive investments?

Recently bought some recommended stocks and now they are just penny stocks. There seems to be more negative portfolios in the last 3rd half of 2023 with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. Very true, you can be passively involved in the markts and still amass wealth-gains using an investment advisor. I first dabbled in stocks late 2019, just before the pandemic, and that same year gained over 150% with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was following directions of my advisor. 100% agree. As much as many want to be a tesla fan boy... Myself included, Musk needs to steer his company in the right direction. I know some people see this as a buying opportunity, but their story so far is not looking good. This is dead money for the next few years if Musk doesn't do well this conference call. If Musk says something stupid on conference call the stock is going down to 120 the next 3 days if it doesn't do it right away. I am personally looking to sell TSLA as I could see it go down to 100 before it hits 170. I am thinking of re-allocating TSLA funds into Apple. Dan Ives comment on Iphone 21 is exactly right. Big boys don't care about 5 years into the future. They always look at 1-2 year earnings. Big money is what moves this stock. They need to do something new fairly quick or this stock will continue to go down. #1 rule, don't hold or buy due to gut feeling, look at facts. If the story continues to be bad this company will go back to valuations of regular auto makers.
A conference call has nothing to do with the business' execution though.

My estimation comes from an over enthusiastic unhinged culture of Wall Street that tends to look at future possible earnings with monetarily unhinged GREED. AI will not revolutionize our society in the immediate term, long term yes. Look at what the email and iphone did. Their impact was felt immediately across the spectrum of American society, from the landscaper able to transact payments much easier to the board members able to communicate with the press of a button. Ask yourself this, what is going to change in my life besides being able to ask an AI software to show me pictures of utter complete nonsense.

@@Christineperkins-uw8ow yes. I mentioned there are deals to be found. Now is the time to buy the dip, definitely don't sell and realize losses. Generally, the true quality stocks will ride out any sustained pullback and emerge healthy and possibly even stronger.

This was some weird and bad analysis on the Dan Ives video. Tesla might be on top in China but BYD is giving good competition and if Tesla doesn't end up producing the model 2 and focuses on only robotaxis it will be like his analogy to apple not coming out with new phones for a while. Meanwhile BYD is a real competitor and can take marketshare away while Tesla has no new cars and only focuses on robotaxis, which means longer time that TSLA will trade lower

Tesla knows the rate of progress they are making with AI FSD. They probably know the quarter, or even the month, they will hit their benchmarks. I think they are supremely confident that FSD is going to be an epic gusher of profit. I hope it goes back down to $100 so I can load up; by this time next year CT will be at 5k/week and FSD will be all the rage.

I don't see Musk "confirming margins" when the Fed can't even figure out what to do. Tesla is actually doing remarkably well considering the environment (Carmax for instance). I also don't think the conference call will make any difference right now - Tesla will keep marching forward better than most, and fud will keep flowing all year. We get a better stock price, better margins, better sales when we get a better macro. That won't happen unless we get "new President optimism."

It's his own website that he has paid for , basically a tool that will help pull up key metrics like forward pe ratio for any stock he inputs.

Call it a car company or a tech stock, either way it needs growth to justify its price and there is not enough growth forecast to even justify $75/share. “Hopium” can only take a price so far. At some point fundamentals need to be acknowledged.

Thanks for the video. In Tesla, I think you are underestimating the increased competition, especially in China from BYD and others. And I think you are overestimating the impact of FSD, robo taxi and Cyber Truck. BYD is closer to producing the low cost EV Tesla has been struggling to get to. Tesla’s shift to prioritizing FSD and robo taxi, over developing the low cost EV, says it all. While you keep harping about how Tesla is king in China market, that will end this year. BYD will be the market leader by end of 2024, and will grow their lead in China once they rollout their low cost EV. And European market is next in BYD’s sight. The long term Tesla bull story you have talked about over the years, is how Tesla will come out with a low cost EV that will make the combustion engine cars obsolete. And how robo taxi will disrupt markets. As of now, Tesla is nowhere near rolling out either one. I can’t see cities and states allowing robo taxis in large scale anytime soon. And competition will continue to get stronger as time goes by. Just because Tesla led in the past, doesn’t mean they will in the future. BYD has proven competitors can catch up and surpass Tesla. As for Cyber Truck, deliveries are being delayed, there has been recalls already on trucks delivered and I don’t think long term demand is there. Time will tell on all these. For me, I sold my position once Tesla decided to not prioritize the low cost EV.

Tesla might of been the number one selling EV in China last year in 2023, but last quarter was the first quarter that BYD out sold Tesla. That's NOT a good sign, and could be the start of a BYD takeover in China. Also, the Chinese government is giving huge incentives to buy Chinese made EV's, chips, smartphones and just about everything else electronic.

I like this comment. People forget to look at the 5-year growth of Tesla in vehicles sold, total revenue, free cash flow. When interest rates are high, folks don't want to borrow money and pay high monthly rates. This is Tesla working through headwinds and making steady progress. All the Tesla bears are out and about when the stock is down. EV sales increased in 2024 in the macro view, and this trend will continue while Tesla is well-positioned to capitalize while it's US-based competitors are dropping out. I don't believe that Biden or Trump will allow Chinese EVs to flood the US market. Not a chance..

Dan Ives is clearly not the adult in the room. I would suggest he don the diapers for Tuesday and get realistic about Teslas prospects. Unfortunately the line in the sand is $100 for the stock and then just a dead cat bounce before ending the year lower than this. There is no real advantage Tesla has compared to any other decent ev maker and this company has to be priced the way other car makers are valued
No. You look at company fundamentals to decide which companies you want to invest in.
You look at the Fed rate cycle to determine when and how much of that company you want to buy.
It makes no sense to buy a great company when the interest rates are at an all time high and try to swim against the tide.
