In this episode, we leave our converted Ford transit campervan in the driveway and go shopping for a fire pit as we enjoy camp cooking. But don’t worry - next week we’ll be back in the van travelling again with our caboodle puppy Twyla and going on another camping adventure.
We manage to find just what we were looking for online, with Australian, Melbourne based business, The Pit Kit. The Pit Kit is a family run business offering high quality products, located in Cheltenham. The Pit Kit offer Australian made off-the-shelf and custom designed fire pits from Australian steel. Their firepits are perfect for lovers of the outdoors, they can showcase a company logo in a unique way, or a perfect gift idea to mark a special occasion. The Pit Kits product range and accessories can be viewed online. The kits are manufactured in, Victoria and profile cut from Australian BlueScope 5mm laser plate steel.
The fire pits come in flatpack form for ease of transport and easily slip together, ready for use. Assembly time is under 30 seconds.

We contacted The Pit Kit to enquire if we could show our viewers the creation process as we were ordering a personalised fire pit through The Pit Kit. We visit The Pit Kit to see in person how the kit is manufactured straight from ‘the press’. We are shown how to put the firepit together and view other designs on order.
We show you how to care of your firepit to retain its durability and longevity. Now, we can’t do an episode on fire pits without cooking up something for our viewers! We show you how to make Spanish beans and chorizo over our new fire pit.
We’re looking forward to taking our new firepit with us on our next camping trip and testing it out on a cold night. As it’s flatpack it’s easy to transport, store and comes with a canvas bag.
There is nothing better when camping than sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows with the kids or having a few coldies with your mates. It’s the perfect way to end the day and such a nice way to relax in the evenings. While some campsites have designated campfire pits for you to use, mostly these are communal ones. Campsites with individual campfire pits are far and few between, and while making new friends is lovely, sometimes it’s just nice to be able to have a campfire right by your camp setup.
We hope you enjoy our channel. We often get asked, ‘what is vanlife?’ Van life is a lifestyle of living in a vehicle full or part-time. The names are compound words that derive from the fact that it is typically done in a van that has been modified with basic amenities, such as house batteries, solar panels, a bed platform, some form of the toilet, sink, and storage space. Some van-dwellers live this lifestyle by choice while seeking freedom, self-sufficiency, and mobility without paying for conventional stationary housing, while for others it may be one step from living on the street or in a shelter. Although the term van-dwelling implies living in a van, many types of vehicles may be used for permanent, mobile living arrangements, including former public buses or school buses, campervans, recreational vehicles (RVs), travel trailers, mobile homes, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and cars.
We enjoy part-time van life, creating weekly episodes that are live at 5pm (AEST) Sundays, and sharing our experiences on our travels with our cavoodle, Twyla. Hi Cheryl, the pit can weigh up to 27kgs, but depending on your design, can be lighter - depending on how much metal is cut out with the design chosen. Adam made a good point to me - he's 65kg (a smaller adult lol) , so if he was like me being 6ft, he'd weigh the extra 25kgs anyway. Plus with the thickness of the metal comes durability.
