I think it's more "They know who you are" kind of thing, considering the wording. So, even if they are kind to you, your friends, and family, they don't know who you are, or the world they are in. So, you can summon, say, Cloud, and he might just wander off and Limit Break the first mugger he sees.
With that interpretation, it isn't an L, it's just kind of annoying, and somewhat limits your options. Not like I would really WANT to summon a Rathalos, but I don't want only a 25% chance of it being a good pet.

The milkshake one was definitely an L, unfortunately. The milkshakes are also entirely optional, so if you don't make milkshakes you don't suffer the downside in the first place so at worst you're neutral. Someone already brought up a strainer, a simple solution to not even that big of a problem.
That adventure one is so stupid because you don't do an escape room cause you actually think you'll find the secret treasure.

Yep. The milkshakes is objectively good for the same exact reason the time machine is. If the caveat only happens when you use the ability, the power is good. You can always just not use the power so having the option is always good. The bad ones are when the downside happens whether or not you use the power

I agree with the Milkshake one being an L. Plus, Vanilla mixes with basically everything, so you could put it in a blender and mix it with whatever flavor you wanted and get rid of the ice chunks at the same time.

I think I figured out why the Shitty Genie makes us so mad. It’s because it reminds how little control we have in our lives. Truth is, life is nothing but a series of these same button presses, albeit with less drastic consequences most of the time, and every once in a while the Shitty Genie we call fate will decide “no that’s an L” even though we did everything right. This game is a depressing and maddening microcosm of the greater human experience, and Coney is representative of every negative thread in our lives during it. No wonder we get so angry. But in the end, the Shitty genie knows nothing but his own cruel twists of fate. We need not fight it. We may only do our best to press the right buttons and pray we can correct our L’s. Such is life.

My favorite part of Shitty Genie is when Coney occasionally lets the mask of him being a game show host slip and he picks the worlds most obvious trap prompt that can incredibly easily be construed as an L no matter what Chat picks because in reality, Coney is a bad dungeon master that thinks the DM is supposed to try ans defeat the player party and that the two roles are supposed to have an adversarial relationship.

As SOON as I saw the one with 3 fictional characters I knew it was gonna be a bullshit L. Fictional doesn't even have to be prestablished or popular, you can make up the character yourself. You could invent a character that is loyal to you and has the power to nullify all bad wish drawbacks and grant you specifically eternal life and power and infinite no drawback wishes and revive you if you somehow fuck up and die. It still pisses me off though. I KNEW he would do it and it still worked. At least he acknowledged rerolling.
