    Great idea! I think I will try this as it is difficult when I'm quilting a queen size on my hoop frame. Thanks for the video :)

    Love your videos! I still don’t have a frame yet with all it’s tools. But, I’m sure if I keep watching your videos, I’ll get one!

    Thank you for this. I am waiting for my Cutie frame. It is backordered. I guess lots of people want them! Your quilt looks beautiful! I hope I can get this good one day.

      You will! All it takes is practice. I seriously have only been quilting since this time last year. I do love to learn new things and this one just ticked all the boxes. I have a LOT of practice pieces.

    Thanks so much for you video. I’m a new quilter looking at frames and machines…I didn’t even know what the leader clothes were for lol. Lots of great info just being able to watch the process. ❤
    I’m also looking at the Q’nique 19 with the Cutie.

      Yay Rachel! Welcome to the wonderful (addictive) world of quilting. I made my very first quilt a little over two years ago. Honestly, I absolutely loved my Q’nique 19 on the cutie frame. Lots of room to quilt! Little space required. I have recently upgraded to a 20” machine on a 12’ frame, but I still find the drives on the cutie easier in some circumstances. You won’t regret it! If you have any questions at all, give me a shout! I am not an expert, but I’ve learned my way through it.

    I finally got my Q’nique 19😁 it’s all set up and I did a tiny bit of stitching. It is so different than my Juki 2010 and J150QVP!! I am so glad you showed how you use the leader cloth. This will be so helpful. I also use my bed for sandwiching and a design wall 😃

      Can you tell me what letter you have the height of your bars on? My practice quilt was very bouncy and was told to lower my rails that they where to high. I now have them on g. I was wondering what you have yours set at.

    • @FogDogStudios
      @FogDogStudios  3 года назад

      Hi Kim! My frame does not have letters. I can tell you that my back bar has 5 notches showing and my front bar has 6 notches showing (I have my ruler base attached). I don't know if they made a few changes since the very first release. I hope this helps.

      I never paid attention to it. I found it way too bulky so I put it away… I’m not even sure where it is. I know it’s not a huge help.

    Thank you for this video. I have a different set of leaders that don't have the cording. I was thinking about getting the ones with cording but not now. I am still using my Juki and I need all the space I can get. I do love this frame though. Your work is beautiful.

    I would love to see you quilt some of the quilt! Did you do any long arm sewing prior to getting your Q’nique?

    • @FogDogStudios
      @FogDogStudios  3 года назад

      That is a great idea. I am working on quilting using a couple of different rulers. I will try to see if I can show more. You may hear a few “four letter words”. I did not. I had never worked with a long arm prior to my Q’nique 19. I did a bit with my domestic Juki TL 2010Q.

  • @DD-ek8qc
    @DD-ek8qc Год назад +1

    Where do you get leader clothes. I’m using a domestic machine with my Cutie? Or is this something I could make using muslin, marking center? Should I make any other markings on the muslin?

    • @FogDogStudios
      @FogDogStudios  Год назад +1

      The leader cloths I use came from Grace. I usually only use the one and I rarely center anything as I am constantly shifting my quilt around. The leader cloths are made from a duck or twill type of fabric. Honestly, my go to is leftover batting. It holds better when clamped. Works great. The marking and centering are necessary when loading on a Longarm frame and not important on a hoop frame.

    • @DD-ek8qc
      @DD-ek8qc Год назад

      Thanks. I watched many RUclips and many use 10” of extra batting and backing. Would I make my leader 10”, mark center and just pin my quilt top, batting, and backing down and go for it. Should I mark about 5” down or so to start pinning then roll down to the top and go for it? I usually do larger quilts. Kings and queens.
      Eventually I’d like to get automation software. I’m never going to have room for a larger frame. Do you have the software? If so do you like it? What type tablet is needed? Windows? Android?

    • @FogDogStudios
      @FogDogStudios  Год назад +1

      In my experience, it is important to center when using a long arm on a full size table. I personally have never marked or used markings while using the cutie frame because I am always moving the quilt around. Honestly a 10” wide piece of batting at least the length of the frame (4’). 12” squares work fantastic for the sides. Test it out and see what works for you!

  • @babszollak2512

    Is there some reason I should the leader cloths that work with the frame, or can I just pin fabric to the quilt creating my own leader cloths? Thanks, these videos are helpful.

    • @FogDogStudios
      @FogDogStudios  Год назад

      Honestly, I usually use scraps of batting and just pin those to the quilt and use just like leader cloths. for me, the cutie frame is just a frame and I don't rely on things being perfectly straight so I improvise A LOT. If you try it and it works for you and it is not in the way of the machine or the frame, then go for it.

    • @babszollak2512
      @babszollak2512 Год назад

      @@FogDogStudios Thank you! I am trying not to spend $180+ on leader cloths. I figure I could just improvise.

    If you don't have all the excess batting on the side, would that be when you use the bungees? or do you use a leader cloth on the side?

    • @FogDogStudios
      @FogDogStudios  Год назад

      I will either pin the small leader cloth or a piece of extra batting to the side and then clap that. I don’t have bungees for my cutie frame, but I use the bungees on my 12 foot frame all the time.

  • @jeanenneclark3108

    I know this was a year ago but I'm hoping somebody out there will answer my question. I notice the huge width of the batting on the SIDE of your quilt. Can anyone tell me how wide it needs to be to ensure I can quilt to the edge of the quilt and still lock it down on the sides with the blue clips???

    • @FogDogStudios
      @FogDogStudios  2 года назад

      The best way to figure out how much extra you would need is to slide your machine all the way to one end then move it away from the end by about an inch, measure the distance from the bottom of the side rail up over the top of the quilt and to your needle, then add an inch or two. This should give you enough extra to clamp leaving room to quilt to the very edge. Keep in mind, your backing fabric should probably be the same size or a bit bigger than the batting. I hope this helps.
