I believe two things would make this series more popular. 1.) Auto clutch actuation was quicker. There used to be shifting parameters you could adjust in iracing but don't believe clutch speed was one of those. It was a shift bump parameter in the controls ini. If I remember correctly. 2.) More vehicles choices. There were some extremely cool cars racing in imsa during the late 80s and early 90s. They need more interclass variety.
Raced the GTO in an Aussie series for a bit. The auto clutch is slower. Even though all manual is trickier under pressure, it's faster. Miss shifts are what make this car so much fun. Even the fastest guy's can make mistakes. f.y.i. there is a doc from iRacing showing most car's requirements for clutch, blip transmissions.
Is it on their RUclips channel? It would be great to have this information because at the moment I’m playing it safe and clutch all the time so I don’t miss a gear and because I’m used to it since I never drove anything but manual gearboxes in the real world until very recently. I live in Germany and automatic cars only became readily available and completely accepted 5-8 years ago in regular daily drivers.
Got it…. Not dead. Actually hats off to the drivers racing the series to speak up and get the #1 sim racing content creator to show of the race and maybe draw me into the series…. You son of a b…. I’m in!
Getting a top 5 in your first race while driving with auto clutch which is a significant disadvantage "around half a sec slower on a track like watkins" is really quite impressive, well done Dave!
I was in the broadcasting seat for this and I will admit it was some bloody great racing between Dave, Robert, Ian and Jamie. I was glued to the racing. Can't wait to see more Kamel racing by Dave
This is awesome stuff to watch. If people who watched these cars race when they first came out all had iRacing accounts, it would be a packed series. Awesome to see you go to my favourite era Dave!
Not dead ...just pining for the F(j)ords! Great to see you and Kinduci racing together, but loads of close racing and dicing with the Nissans throughout - what a fun series this really is.
I remember when I first started watching videos from iracing about 5 years ago. It was with Jimmy B. driving the Nissan on this series, and I fell in love with it. So good to see you driving it in the Audi! I enjoyed this video a lot, specially when the faster cars started lapping you, it was crazy!!! You handled the pressure like a pro, well done Dave! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I just wanted to mention that the4 difference in speed on the straight is simply from shifting, auto clutch is quite slow you can lose up to 3 tenth on a single shift
It is likely exacerbated by the fact that this (and the Nissan) is an 80s turbo car. So double the normal penalty. You want to keep the engine in the boost range at all times, dare I say even while shifting with the clutch in. Keep the revs up.
@@DNHarris Yeah I remember Joachim stuck mentioning that he used to keep a bit of throttle input while braking to keep the boost charged, so when he gets back on the throttle there's no delay with the turbocharger
dont use any aids, why have all the gear and use aids? defeats the sims purpose. I guess if you were using a controller i guess aids are ok, but why get iracing without wheel and pedals
Great video Dave, I watched those Audi at the St Petersburg Grand Prix back in the late 80's. Why don't they race the GTO Mustangs & Camaros with the Audi? Those cars back then where some fire breathing monsters! 🙂👍
The Kamel GT Series "is not a dead series". LOL. You've actually stumbled upon a race series I watch religiously EVERY week on the GSRC channel. While Kamel doesn't see the same kind of participation more traditional iRacing official series do, it is quite active. I would liken it to a league, where the active drivers have a day and time they have a practice race, and then a dedicated day / time for the "official", broadcast race. While it tends to draw its regulars, they are very open to guests.
I don' know what's going on, but of the few people i know of using a manual shifter, they all seem to have missed shifts regularly in iRacing. I can't say if it's user error or some "feature" in the game, but i've seen a lot of fucked shifts in iRacing. The race: Intense af! ..and a great result. Nice going Dave :)
Auto clutch does make you slower for some reason. Have to put in the work (clutching) to be quicker 😁. However, the #15 was a bit aggressive early in the race. As usual..good job
As everybody mentioned already, it's quite obvious that most of the speed difference to other Audis must have been down to that auto-clutch. I watched Matt Malone drive the Nissan in the series and his card doesn't stop accelerating during the upshifts, because he doesn't even pull his foot back from the throttle -- he chooses the right time for the shift, so that the revs go briefly to the max when he clutches off, but then he just drops the clutch and bam! -- a smooth as silk powershift done!
Great video and great racing though I don't think you really addressed the issue of how active the series is?.... :p ...maybe get a thesaurus to plunder some other words... ;)
So I started watching the Trans AM at Mid-Ohio race on TV, then saw Dave had uploaded this. After the first few minutes of each, decided this was more exciting. Good race, Dave, but let me ask. Could your shifter have made you a bit slower? Maybe it's a thing with this car/transmission, but there was a definite pause on the upshifts. I don't iRace anymore, and never checked out this 'NOT DEAD' series when I did, so haven't a clue.
I added subtitles for this video: Dave Cameron: Bring out your dead! IRacing: Here's one. DC: Nine pence. Kamel GT Series: I'm not dead! DC: What? IR: Nothing. Here's your nine pence. KGTS: I'm not dead! DC: 'Ere. He says he's not dead! IR: Yes, he is. KGTS: I'm not! DC: He isn't? IR: Well, he will be soon. He's very ill. KGTS: I'm getting better! IR: No, you're not. You'll be stone dead in a moment. DC: Oh, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations. To Be Continued…
That seems like something from Monty Python or a skit that Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie would do with Rowan Atkinson. I can picture it now, Stephen playing Dave, Rowan as iRacing and Hugh as Kamel. In fact now I WANT to see that skit. Typical British humour, the best in the world.
Note to self: This series isn't dead 😆 On a more serious note, only ever driven this car in a test session when iRacing is down and oh boy, it's one of the most fun and rewarding cars on the service. If it ain't dead, I might pick it up.
Good going there even with the auto clutch! It does cost you a lot of laptime and seeing you curse the Audi gearbox of neutrals would've been much better content ;) When are you doing Lotus 79 & 49? Those series ain't dead either
2 quick questions, when is the right time to try this series? And can be done with paddle shifters and auto clutch or you loose too much like in that straight line?
Check the pinned comment for the times it goes official. Yes you can use paddle shifters, but I'd rather use auto blip than auto shift. Check out my other video where I compare gearbox/clutch assists 👍
@@davecamyt thx Dave, one last thing: it's hard to drive? I came from B class but stopped racing for almost a year now i'm back in D, would it be too much?
I honestly believe the problem with iracing, is they allow you to join what ever series you want as long as you have the content. Because of this A lot of content is neglected due to the popularity of series like anything with the letters GT. i’m not the biggest advocate of Gran Turismo, however GT Sports multiplayer structure is amazing because they provide you with small selections of car track combos or a few series they supply. In other words, they make sure their content is put to use
Only managed to get through 8 minutes, but you are probably slow on the straights because you are using auto-clutch on a car that wouldn't have had a modern Dual Clutch system. I don't know how IRacing simulates that, but I ran into that racing on Project Cars 3 of all things, where I lost a ton of time on straights using older cars with game based auto-clutch racing against my friends using manual clutch. Wasn't an issue in the modern GT cars.
Your server seems so busy? What time was this at? I've been practicing the Audi but haven't raced them yet. Brands Hatch looks like a good track for these cars
@@davecamyt found it thanks mate. I also want to add, great to see you smiling and enjoying yourself after what you have been through. I really hope you don't mind me bringing that up. But your positivity can bring me positivity. Anyway, peace out :)
I've been doing iRacing for 3 months or so now, and I was sad yesterday when I found out you can only get 10$ iRacing credit a season. I had a bunch of races lined up to get at least 1 track next season :(
From reading the comments below, I'm disappointed to hear that it's necessary to use a h-shifter and clutch for some types of cars. I always just use manual gear shifting. How much of a problem is this? Which cars will I be slower in? Ferrari challenge?
It’s not that simple. It’s really about the assists. If you use “auto clutch” the sim will take a tad longer to shift. If you use “auto blip” it will shift faster but you’ll need to use the clutch on upshift. There’s someone in the series who uses paddles and a button on his wheel mapped to the clutch; shifting with that setup is just as quick as with a pedal clutch and an h-pattern shifter. iRacing really allows any configuration to work. The Ferrari challenge uses cars that already have computer aided, auto-blipping, pneumatic paddle shifters, so the best setup for those cars is whichever clutch setting you like (it doesn’t matter), and paddles.
That was fun Btw what’s the point of having multi class race in a sim? I get in real life to cut costs and all that but it’s ruining the race for both classes here. No? 😄
This is one reason why I don't like to race these open setup series. I don't have enough time nor skill to do the setups myself so basically you either get one from the interwebs if you manage to find or use some paid service. I just want to race not spend time setting up the car.
The regulars will give you their actual setup for each track. Top split or not they will happy to share. Just get on the discord and communicate. Cars don't change much year over year. The setups are reusable for the most part.
Probably the series is not dead it's just 0 players there every time I check. :( Does anyone know when is the PEAK time for this series, which is NOT dead?

I agree you were lacking in top speed but u clearly had speed out of the corners, esp against Rob. I assume from higher downforce.
you're losing soo much time letting go off the throttle for every upshift. Rob doesn't do that
He mentioned using Auto-Clutch, so the sim is letting off the gas for him most likely with every shift.

Hmmm, maybe the series isn't dead 🤔
Your speed problem is not because of the setup, its because you are using auto clutch... It is massively slower.
