    These microphones were designed and perfected by Blue's first engineer Juris Zarins. Zarins released highly perfected versions of the Kiwi, the Blueberry, and the Mouse as initial offerings under his JZ Microphones label. I have and use the JZ Microphones versions and have found them to be well beyond the quality of the Blue versions. Zarins was repeatedly sued and brought to financial ruin by Blue Microphones and finding anything about his JZ versions of these microphones is extremely hard to come by.

      Interesting story. I had to look this up. Blue changed hands over the years and is currently owned by Logitech. I do love their older mics and still think the current line of Pro XLR is great, though they are getting more difficult to find.

    I've been wanting these microphones in my collection since I found out about Blue microphone. They're just so pricey. I only have the Blue Bird and it's a pretty good mic. I aiming to get the Blueberry or Kiwi next.

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  Год назад +3

      They are a pricey step up from the Bluebird. But something such as the Kiwi will cover you for most needs. And you can't go wrong with almost any of them!

    Great shootout. We have a Dragonfly, and it sounded amazing on cello. The low end was robust while the mids & highs were still clear. It can work on voices with some eq to brighten it up and tame the lows. I'll have to try it as a drum room mic now cuz I liked the example here

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  7 месяцев назад

      Nice. Yeah, on drum overheads, it doesn’t capture too much bass, but has a great smooth top end

    hello.
    I have a friend who works in the radio and also does podcasts from home, she is very good and very talented, so I want to give her one of these microphones.
    I've heard her talk about the kiwi. but I would like your professional opinion about what is the best option for her, based on what she does. Thank you in avance for your answer 😃

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  Год назад +1

      The Kiwi is great, but on a female vocal, the Blueberry or Dragonfly can also be great. But for talk radio and podcasts, also consider an RE20 and SM7B. (I have videos on those) They are totally different sounds. It depends on whether you want an open condenser sound or that radio proximity effect of a dynamic mic.

      Hi Joonas! That is too bad to hear that. I do not know for 100% sure, but I believe the company might be changing their lineup a bit. It seems like they have a hard line division between the pro mics and the consumer ones. Sorry I don't have any additional info beyond that.

    • @ToddUrban
      @ToddUrban  2 года назад

      Absolutely. The open top end sounds amazing and even. But this is a pro mic, so you will need an interface, unlike their USB mics that they make for podcasts. (Maybe that is obvious, but just making sure you know that) 😃

      Yeah, the bottle rocket is nice with the changeable capsules. I personally prefer not switching capsules and having the variable polar patterns like on the Kiwi. It is just more convenient. But they are all excellent on vocals.

      I’m surprised to hear that. They aren’t my favorite mic for all applications. But I do love the Mouse and Kiwi. The Dragonfly is a bit odd, I will agree, and the Blueberry has some hyped upper harmonics. Either way, thanks for watching and commenting. 😃
