  • On May 15, 2024, the Amphibium will open at Hannover Adventure Zoo. In 2021, Frogs & Friends was commissioned by Adventure Zoo Hannover to create a concept for an amphibian exhibition on the premises of an old zoo restaurant. The result is an amphibian house that combines modern exhibition design, innovative digital and physical information transfer and good animal husbandry. Almost all of the dozen or so species on display are part of the Citizen Conservation breeding program, in which private and institutional wildlife keepers work together to build up sustainable reserve populations in captivity.

Poor amphibians…humans have done very badly. Great to see this project and the effort to save these incredible species. Frogs are high on my list of favorite animals. Beautiful design.

This is amazing. I wish this existed in the Appalachian Mountains. This region has the highest biodiversity of salamanders in the world. Having a exhibit could educate people about local wildlife and bring awareness to what anthropogenic threats amphibians face.

08:30 That must be the best fire-bellied toad (or _Bombina_ sp.) home in history! I hope they don’t escape from that open-top enclosure! 😂 They can climb up glass easily. Mine escaped somehow, and that was from a fully-secured tank. I later found them in my bedroom, sitting there minding their own business. 😂 They climbed out, somehow, despite the tank being tightly secured, sealed and escape-proof, or so I thought…good luck to the zoo. 😉
I feel like fire-bellied toads are a bit like dart frogs for beginners… albeit larger, somewhat, and hardier, and certainly more prone to swim or float in deep water. They can live in very similar habitats, with similar plant species, and eat similar insects, but will appreciate more of a paludarium or riparium rather than a vivarium. It’s interesting, as the species’ common name is "fire-bellied toad" yet they’re actually frogs who will swim if able to. By comparison, tiny dart frogs are predominantly terrestrial and live their lives like many toads do. If anything, toads are MORE aquatic than dart frogs. Lol.

      We are four guards.
One tells the truth to the best of their knowledge.
Another tells the truth in a way that sounds outrageous.
Another tells a misleading technical truths.
And the last only tells lies.
