The bird enclosure is 100 years old and has been completely hollowed out and renovated. In the past, there were also free-flying birds, but everything was darker. Now it is very bright and it is also rained from above from time to time. Only the planting still has to grow. The light glass plates mentioned are not intended for lighting. Since everything is new and different species of birds live together, these glass plates serve as a subdivision of the space to form territories. After everything has settled in, they are removed again.

Love to see the zoo of so many of my childhood memories on here. I won‘t give it all of the credit, but this zoo definitely contributed to me going into biology. Thank you for the tour!
Wow! This zoo looks fantastic! Looks really well done, and clean. I am in Florida, USA, and so it is always interesting to see how colder climates deal with primates as they are kept fully outside year-round here. Thanks for the video!
The Zoo Basel just celebrated 150 years! And someone already mentioned that the bird house is a 100 years plus! So I don't think it "will look better with time"!😅

This is only a small part of the penguin cage. The water basin is about 5 meters deep and at temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius, the penguins walk through the zoo accompanied by keepers.

It was recently renovated and planted. So I meant the decor and plants as they grow. Not the building itself :)
