Chinchillas are small, furry rodents that are native to the Andes mountains in South America. They have soft, dense fur, large ears, and big, expressive eyes. Chinchillas are known for their playful and curious nature and can make great pets for those willing to provide them with the proper care and attention.
As pets, chinchillas are low-maintenance and relatively easy to care for. They require a cage with plenty of room to climb and play, a diet of high-quality hay and chinchilla pellets, and regular dust baths to keep their fur clean and healthy.

All are true! I have two chinchillas. Just gonna clarify when he says “bathe” he means dust baths NEVER use water.
Edit:thank you for 17k likes!
The reason you don’t use water is chinchillas should be dry, using water can make them very sick. This is because their fur is very dense when wet making it a long long process of drying to where the chinchilla may get pneumonia.
Exactly! Thank you so much for your comment!! ❤️❤️❤️

You forgot to mention they have the thickest coats of any animal in the world. If you live in a warm country, you need air conditioning. That only makes it better ❤️ how have never seen an old chinchilla?!
When he says bathe he means not with water. They bathe in dust. They can get fungus infections if they get wet. the water stays in the fur because its super dense.
As a chinchilla owner I also have to add that they are nocturnal animals. If you don't have at least 2 rooms apartament or deep sleeping pattern, they are not for you, beacuse they can be very noisy around 10 PM - 6 AM.

When I hear they take a lot of care. It makes me feel bad for them because people are going buy them for clout and not taking care of them.
Like sugargliders
they are notorious for becoming very ill... they do not belong in a dam cage in a dam fucking house.
yeah, i wish people would research before getting a pet.
Yeah same thing with Axolotls, the amount of people who neglected them was terrible.
They take a ridiculous amount of care. They can't be kept at temperatures above 22°C (70°F) and fans don't work, only ACs.
They can't be bathed in water, only dust. The water can kill them.
They have to be let out of the cage occassionally (preferably at least once a day) to run around in a safe room where they can't chew anything they're not supposed to or run away or hurt themselves.
And their digestive system is very delicate, they can't release gases, so if they eat something wrong there's a good chance they'll die.
On top of all that, they're rodents, and are very sensitive to stress, and have delicate eyes and ears, which means that very strong sounds or flashing lights can seriously hurt them.
And then there's also the matter of compatibility with other members of their species: the females are fierce and very dominant and if they don't like a male they can be very dangerous to him.

DO NOT BUY A CHINCHILLA FROM A PET STORE. most of the people that own a chinchilla are not aware of the proper care and there are so many that die every year due to those same people not caring for them correctly. i worked in a pet store and i can promise you the majority of people that get pets in general (not even just chinchillas) are no where near ready to own an animal. people come into stores like that with absolutely no knowledge and expect people with literally little to no history of care with those animals to tell them how to keep the animal. none of the people i worked with were educated enough on any of the animals in our care. i’m studying zoology in college and spend my free time also researching animals, so i knew more than the managers and the person that was in charge of the animals. not to mention, i had experience and years of research on the animals we kept. i can also reassure you that the care IN STORES is not even up to par either! i can’t tell you how many times i had to try to correct the people i worked with because i actually knew what i was talking about and they would say “it’s policy to do it this way” like???? it’s POLICY to harm these animals with improper care?? nice. i could also go on about how the people they receive the animals from are even WORSE with their care! in my first week working at the pet store we had a chinchilla come in and i found one with a prolapsed colon! it ended up having to be rushed to the animal ER and got put down. a couple months later we got more in and they BOTH died due to intestinal issues! there is some shit going down with these big breeders that pet stores are supplied by. DO NOT support them. it sucks the animals have to suffer in the store, but supporting them and giving them your money is only going to make them breed and neglect more until they die as well. if you are serious about a Chinchilla PLEASE DO EXTENSIVE RESEARCH. they are very delicate animals and if you get them wet they will more than likely get hypothermia and die!!! their fur is not meant to get wet. they need regular dust baths, lots of room to move and explore, and it’s best to get two so they will have a buddy. they are a lot of responsibility and ANY animal is a huge responsibility that should never be taken lightly. too many people buy animals on impulse and end up killing it. those people should honestly be in prison for animal neglect.
people don’t care. They only care if it affects them
@@Ihavehadmanynames7779 people don’t deserve to have an animal if they don’t care. big pet stores shouldn’t even be able to sell animals since they’re all abused.

please don’t support the fur trade. it takes over a hundred just to make one coat and they are treated horribly. Some are skinned alive, please please don’t support this
It’s important to know that these adorable animals are not for everyone. They really don’t like to be handled and they will freak out and shake until they have a heart attack. Small children should not be allowed to handle them.
They Cannot get wet or they will get really sick and can die. Their fur is so thick that they’ll never fully dry.
They ARE NOT potty trainable and just crap and pee all over the place if you let them roam freely. They can and will get into the wall. They can and will chew every cord in your home, every piece of wood furniture (and the varnish and other chemicals can kill them).
They need chew toys to keep their teeth filed down or they will grow and poke thru their skin around their mouths.
They are nocturnal. So unless you’re a night owl this little guy will chill and nap all day and bounce all over his cage all night!
And lastly, they live about 20 years. So if you aren’t looking for a long term commitment this precious baby is not for you!
Man, they're adorable, but they don't seem like a good pet for humans...
Chinchillas need A LOT of space.
Plus they can gnaw wires, furniture and jump really really high, even jump off windows.
My cousin used to have chinchillas. In her old house, she had a room only for them, and believe me when I say, they reduced to wood chips a whole wardrobe she had put in there for them. An even so, they still looked like they needed more space to jump, they are like tiny kangaroos. I don't belive everybody can take care of tiny kangaroos properly at their house.
When she moved from that house to a rent loft, with lots of furniture, no doors, plenty of windows, a balcony, she could not free the chinchillas around from the cage and therefore had to bring them back to the pet shop😔
So please, think wisely before getting one🥺

@@darrellzazueta9081 yes bro I saw that. I commenting on what he said and the lack of clarification he gives in his “informational” video. But go off.
1. Chinchillas should never be bathed with water due to the density of their fur. Water will just mold on their fur. Occasionally offer a dust bath.
2. Chinchillas are not super docile and cuddle pets. They often don't enjoy being handled UNLESS you happen to find one with a really good temperament and it's handled from a young age to get it used to handling.
If you want a small pet that is super cuddly and playful and very clean, research rats. From experience they are very loyal and often *love* to be handled because they are social animals, rats groom themselves and other rats constantly throughout the day and throughout most of their lives.

uh.... correct the "bathe" part to "dry bathing" or "dust bathe" before some dumb people kill a couple.
Not for everyone, requires a lot of attention
All of this being said after saying they're for all ages.
Please don't get exotic animals as pets
They're not really pets. You simply become their adopted owner and will spend hundreds a month for their care and every day of your life
I also can't believe nobody has mentioned the poop pellets. They leave little pellets everywhere that will need to be vacuumed up regularly from my experience.
Can you also explain why they are so cute? Its unbelievable 😊
Nobody:
Chinchillas: dust is all the soap and water I need
light fruit
Aye, I love these chubby speed rabbit rats!
"This might be the BEST pet good you! "
Listen, I would love to have a chinchilla but, I have a cat..
*she'd rip it to shreds-*
Just get 1 and keep it in a small cage or tank the cat shouldn't get into. Eventually the cat will get used to it and realize it shouldn't kill it. If you do that everything will be fine, trust me I had a cat and a chinchilla and they got along like family after a month.
It isn’t a problem
If ur cat is well trained like mine it won’t eat anything like hamsters
And cats can’t catch up with the smol wall runner
@@darthmaul5118 Actually I just checked back in on my pets and it appears my cat has killed my chinchilla and eaten most of him. In hindsight I wouldn't recommend leaving a cat alone with a chinchilla.
@@chucknutly3290 yeah
But if u can train it to not eat anything it won’t my cat didn’t eat my hamsters although it could’ve
@@darthmaul5118 Just to clarify my cat isn't a domestic house cat she's a jaguar called silent.
Did he just wink at me? Yes
Am I now going to convince my partner why we need a chinchilla? Also yes
for chinchilla owners: I have herd that chinchillas need to be separated from their siblings at like the first week because they will start "family bonding" with each other. is this true?
Absolutely not. All kits should have full access to mum at all times, unless you’re prepared to hand feed every 2 hours 24/7.
Males should be removed from mum between 8-9 weeks when weaning is complete. Females can be kept with mum.
Chinchillas are wonderful pets, but they're really not the best fit for everyone.
They are pretty fragile, they are easily stressed and they require a lot of maintenance. They also have very long lifespans and require an exotic vet when ill. Not everyone has the funds or the ability to bring their chinchilla to such a vet.
They poop a LOT, and they are little trouble makers. Flipping the food bowl over or knocking over their houses, are things these creatures do all the time. This can cause a mess on the floor by the cage, which you'll need to deal with everyday and every time a guest comes over.
They are not cuddly creatures, but they can be very affectionate. It depends on the bond that you have with your chinchilla, and on the personality of the animal. Some likes the occasional petting session, while others prefer that you leave them alone. I have 5 chinchillas, and only 3 of them lets me pet them.
Their diets are also quite tricky, so they shouldn't get a lot of treats. Fresh hay should always be available to them.
They make amazing pets, but they are not for everyone. I love mine and I spend a lot of time with them, but not everybody has the time or ability to spend on them. I would only recommend them to adults (NOT CHILDREN) who want a sweet little ball of happiness in their life.
Also, they poop 300 times a day. Found that out after I got one…
When I was 16 I worked in a pet store as an intern, one day the Chinchilla's managed to escape their cage.
My chinchilla broke out too…we call him Houdini
😂😂😂😂
They are so cute and fluffy I want one
