  • In this video I am going to make Degi Chicken Haleem / Daleem which is very tasty and easy to cook.
    Chicken haleem is a rich and hearty dish that originated in the Middle East but has become incredibly popular in South Asia, particularly in countries like Pakistan and India. It's a slow-cooked stew made with wheat, barley, lentils, and tender chicken, all simmered together to create a thick, porridge-like consistency. The key to its flavor lies in the slow cooking process, which allows the grains and chicken to meld together, absorbing the spices and creating a dish that's both comforting and nutritious.
    To prepare chicken haleem, the wheat and barley are soaked overnight, then simmered until they break down and form a thick paste. Meanwhile, chicken pieces are cooked separately with spices like turmeric, chili powder, and garam masala until tender. The cooked chicken is then shredded and added to the wheat and barley mixture.
    The lentils are cooked until soft and then mashed or blended to a smooth consistency before being added to the stew. A generous amount of ghee or clarified butter is usually added to enhance the richness of the dish. Additional spices such as cumin, coriander, and cinnamon may also be used to add depth of flavor.
    Chicken haleem is often garnished with fried onions, chopped cilantro, mint leaves, and a squeeze of lemon juice before serving. It's commonly enjoyed with naan or roti, although some prefer to eat it on its own due to its satisfying texture and robust flavors.
    In South Asian culture, chicken haleem is especially popular during Ramadan, as it is considered a nourishing dish that provides sustenance after a day of fasting. Its popularity has spread beyond religious festivals, becoming a beloved comfort food enjoyed year-round by many.
