Canes fan here: very impressed by the turnaround the Oilers have made. The coaching change may have been merely a psychological move, but it seems to have triggered the emotional response and desire to win, as intended. Skinner played big too. This team has way too much talent to not be in the heat of the playoff race. Respect.

I always got the feeling, back in the day, that the Oilers didn't really take things too seriously in the regular season. Think about this: they only won the President's Trophy once.

Montreal wasn't really playing that great. Their goalie played amazing and they were turtling and playing defensive the entire game trying to not lose as opposed to playing to win. The deserving team won this game for sure. 2 posts for the oilers as well earlier in the game and almost 50 shots.
@@enzy6434 Against McDavid and Draisatl? That was the best (and right) strategy to play. If not the penalties (god damn it, Gally...) and their lousy aiming in front of split-second open nets, Habs would've won.
Nevertheless, Oilers earned that victory by sheer effort and talent. They and their fans deserve to enjoy that record-setting win streak.
Montembeault just being a beast lately. Could be a #1 goalie in 1 or 2 years for real, his progess is insane

He was absolutely great it was honestly frustrating, especially the third period I was on my feet the whole time it was a great game. Can't wait to see a rematch it'll be amazing to see

My goodness what a game this was. Felt like a true playoff game. Really happy the Habs 1st line was able to compete against, arguably, the best 1st line in the NHL. Guhle was insane again tonight. Montembeault too. And the Oilers are just on an absolute tear right now gotta respect the turnaround.
Suzuki was pissing me off as an Oilers fan all night. I knew he was good but my god he’s really good. A thorn in the Oilers side whenever he was on the ice

Great hockey game! The Canadiens played the hottest team in the league to a standstill! Montembeault was again fabulous! I thought the Oilers were getting frustrated because the Canadiens played so well! As a result, the Oilers, at times, should have been called the "Lumberjacks"!

Montembeault played like a freaking champ. Two iffy goals that really weren't his fault.
The league record for undefeated streak is the Flyers at 35 games 1979-80. The longest winning streak is 17 with the Penguins in 1992-93
And neither of those teams won the cup those years. Always happens that way.

Oilers aer adding another layer of character of what is an important step to becoming a champ. Coming back from adversity , being able to weather adversity at any point is a big attributes to have , heading into playoffs. The last 2 reapeat champions, Pittsburg and Tampa Bay, had a string of heartbreaking losses in the playoffs, before stringing back to back champions. Go Oilers.

That was a pretty big blunder by the Montreal defenseman hitting Foegele into the crease on the Oilers first goal. If he just lets him go the Montreal goalie covers up and easily freezes the puck.
One more win and we pass Kings for 3rd place. Kraken isn't letting up tho trying to catch us with 9 wins in a row. Flames 2pts back also coming for 4th.

Nice pass by Nick Suzuki to Cole Caufield. He faked the shot and then sent a pass over to Cole who drilled the puck through to the open side. Most of the NHL teams know this, so they keep a defender close to Cole. Edmonton obviously, did not do there homework but the goal doesn't mean much as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-1.

It was a lot harder back then when games ended in ties, the oilers last two wins would have ended in ties nack then and streak would have been over, also the win against LA was a shootout win.

How was that not goaltender interference?? There was a deliberate kick pushing Montembeau’s blocker side away from the play. Ridiculous.
Because the montreal defenseman literally shouldered Foegele into the goalie and was pinning him in the crease - he had nowhere to skate away from the goalie to avoid it.

not really, goalie interference is when a player stops a goalie from making a save, foegl catching the blocker wouldnt affect the ability for the montreal goalie to save the puck as he wasnt and wouldnt use his blocker, foegele alse was pushed into the blocker and couldnt do anything but get caught on the stick, good goal, 2-1 EDM in OT

Only the 3️⃣rd from an Oiler perspective…as a team, we were collectively flat, (other than Connor’s line & a few Leon attempts). Skinner kept us in it till we woke up in the final period & OT.
Oh, yeah. McDavid complains about the refs, so they get an overtime power play. I kind of quit watching the games for the simple reason, it's about who Bettman wants to win.
