There is something enchanting, almost magical about your ability to know your tinder bundle well enough that you can pause, encourage content engagement, then go back to it and have it catch on the very next breath. That level of skill is truly aspirational.
The challenge of figuring out when one more breath will bring it to flames is enjoyable and satisfying. Smoke that is streaming up out of a tinder bundle quickly means that it's right on the verge of igniting. It also keeps people watching longer. My Analytics show that as soon as I start to say my outro, 25% of the people still watching, leave.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl Well, I suspected you were a genius, that confirms it :) Seriously though, you're an inspiration, thanks for doing everything you do.
With all those coals you need some burgers or a couple of steaks to use up that heat. Great video. Your Fatwood baton reminds me of pulling out roots of old dead pines and splitting them into tiny strips for firestarters. The old man always had his eye out for fatwood...
Thats a nice fatwood stick. I was using a homemade deer antler as a bearing block and it still blackens. I watched one of your vids a little while ago and tried just using a small round fatwood block and it works great. Im going to scout the property for a nice piece and make a homemade block and attach cord to it. Thanks again for the instruction-
You Sir are a Firemaster , I particularly like the cotton and ash rolls you do , I've made friction fire only 2 times but it was ealateing wow what a feeling . I have great respect for how well you do this task , it proves that anything done to the highest degree approaches being Art .
Can't beat a good stick of fat wood for just about anything, I like the aroma of it when sawing or shaving it. It was a building wood in the old time Cracker Homes here in Florida. No rot or insects and turned gray with time , just be careful with the matches.
Just knew that you weren’t gonna hold that little starter fire in your hand long, that flaky tinder goes up fast. Like to see your cat go into fast motion sometime soon.
Well David, I know how it is to try to squeeze the most out of your fireboard but, why not try using a bit larger/longer board from now on? A good fireboard won't set you back any money and if it was anywhere around a quarter inch thick, it would probably last you 10 time longer. You realize that you are diminishing the thickness of the board each time you use it and if you start out thin, you will end up with a fireboard in 2 pieces that much sooner. ... Just one ol' ourdoorsman to another, mind you ... 👍
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl I always wanted a BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, etc. The closest we ever came was an Audi A4 and it was primarily my wife's. I really enjoy the heck out of your videos and will try soon to extract some heartwood from a dead pine that is collapsed on the line between my neighbor and me.
Mr. West, I enjoy your videos. Do you think you could use a cotton substitute such as cat tail floss, the inner bark of a cedar tree, or some other such?
You just don’t know your own strength..!😮 That looks like a real rich chunk of fat wood…I have to reach roughly five thousand feet or more above the valley here to locate, cut and gather fat wood.

LOL, this is a fun hobby.
That is truly a gem of a pine knot. Multi functional. The aroma of scrapings is addictive.
We have 100s strewn about in the woods behind the house. Thanks Joe!
It's nice to see a relaxed, competent job of work. No wind and bull.
Thank you, Ian!

True, but the heat was put to good use as a lesson. It's not rare around here. Please read the Description.
Never a dull moment in your back yard Mr West. Love your video's, and your pink knot fatwood is awesome.
Never. TY!
Nice BMW
It’s been a lemon from day 1.
That fatwood knot is beautiful. Love seeing the cat. :) Another great video, thanks.
Tybee... TY!
I just scored a huge harvest of fatwood up in the Santa Fe Forest over the weekend when I was camping. I probably got enough to last a lifetime!
It doesn't take much to get a fire, kindling, started.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl it looks like a really rich and powerful piece that you have there! Very nice find
Good demonstration David , thanks for sharing , God bless !

That piece of fat wood is gorgeous! 😊
I've got 100 under the leaves in the backyard. Must've been a Pine forest in the past.

You're right. That's why I compressed it to give me a few seconds to handle it.
Thanks David; love that fatwood!
Northerners have their Birch Bark. We have Loblolly Pine Fatwood.

Nice Fatwood, nice Beemer
It has a very expensive sensor in the transmission that needs to be replaced. It's been somewhat of a lemon from day one.

I bought my 01 Camry new. It has 360K miles on it and is still going strong. Not much to look at though.

Not those, but others. See my fire roll playlist.
What is your table top made of? And is there a link to your coffee can cook stove?

Nice 💪 Hey David what about 0000 steel wool and Ferris Rod I hear very hot fire starter What you think ??
It's a good one for sure!

I wore out the divot to the bottom which left very little wood to hold that corner on.
Who's your friend David ? 😺
Tybee. He's always around when I video.
I have never asked about your Pine knot baton because I just thought you wanted to feel cave man that day
LOL! Club.
Its pitch wood
