And since there are always contrarians I will acknowledge that some may say this is sticking it to his opponents, but I disagree. He just loves it, and by no means does he do this with every mind-bogglingly great shot he hits. Alcaraz, whom I really like and respect, doesn’t show quite this attitude; just a little more aggressive, pumping himself up less than enjoying the moment. In his prime Jack Nicklaus was like Federer: that leap for joy after sinking the incredible putt at 16 in the ‘75 Masters, the happiness on his face when he sinks the putt to win the US Open at Baltusrol; his reaction to sinking the putt at 17 in the 86 Masters. It’s just a kind of childlike delight, a feeling you can share with the player, and is something to cherish and adds something to life.
@@samuelsessions2817 I read your post in it's entirety and while i do believe you are correct, Alcaraz actually had a similar attitude to federer until this year. but it also involved playing to the Crowd and it gave him energy as well as enjoyment. But i do agree this year he is more business like and still enjoys himself but he plays less of these shots and definitely more percentage focused. i think its a balance. perfectly ok, he is his own man and whatever works for him is fine by me. Alcaraz definitely plays attacking tennis like federer but is not federer. he has federer's touch and feel (drop shots/ drop volleys) as well as extraordinary hands at net plus the ability to generate pace easily, but his movement is more physical and certainly not like Federer's. more like a mix of nadal and Djokovic. he will forge his own path when all is said and done.
I love his reactions after the point--cool as a cucumber. It makes the points so much more exciting by contrast. The younger, rabble-rousing players today could learn a lesson here.
Thank you so much for these videos. Every RUclips video of Roger reminds us of his beautiful game. He’s a true artist. He is the one player in history who had the shots and skill to win by making winners, far more winners than opponents. So his matches are works of art painted by winners, brush strokes of his variety of shots. Watching others even the other 2 of big 3 is like watching paint dry.
His words and action show that he liked to play matches that demonstrate to the fans how the sport can be played at the highest level. Of course, now and then a disrespectful opponent needs to be put in his place. :-)

You can see that he plays some squash. A lot of those deceptive flat slice shots from the forehand side. That’s the bread and butter of squash. Would love to see / play with him in squash

when i played younger i had the classic one-hand backhand. i could hit almost all the shots RF hit, but to obtain 60% of his consistency and accuracy would have been the most i would achieve if i practiced as a professional for the rest of my life. there is no doubt RF held back from humiliating his opponents more .

Yeah there are definitely levels to sports even when you're supposedly at the 'top' level there are a handful that are just that much better. HIs opponents are working their butts off playing and Roger looks like he is doing warmups for an actual match.

He just didn't make mistakes with anything near the frequency of his opponents and would just 'kill with the skills'. Bjorn Borg could just 'out athlete you' in his prime. The stamina, particularly in the later rounds and games, was amazing to watch. Federer was an artist. He played the game like a Maestro. The greats each have their own set of qualities. I don't 'rank them' particularly when they weren't frequent opponents in their primes. I just enjoy the brilliance.
