I like your version of the championship format a little more than what we got. Getting away from having an entire season come down to just 1 race hurts the legitimacy of the sports. Spreading it out over 3 races is better
4:30 - 7:01 This modification to the playoff format would be so much better than what we currently got now. One minor tweak I would add is take away the 'win and you're in' including for the full season. That way a driver that's 30th in points wins one race and cannot take a spot from a driver that's 14th-16th in points that deserves to be in the playoffs.
The playoffs definitely need to be changed. Start by eliminating a default game 7 moment with a 1 race championship. No win and your in. Also have the broadcast not talk about the playoffs constantly where they don't discuss the race itself. The chase was perfect balance between having a postseason but rewarding consistency throughout the whole season.
A tweak to your playoff idea- Top 10 gets a bye to the round of 12. ALL drivers outside the top 10 with a win are wild card eligible, and the top 2 advance to the round of 12. Xfinity/Truck variant: Top 5 advance to round of 8. 6-10 and all eligible drivers with a win race for 3 spots.
They should try it. Can’t be worse than it is now. But still needs to be the real points system. Old days. Every track in America still uses it. If it’s not broke don’t fix it.
Wild card round 3 races, top 10 in points safe, can get playoff points, 11-16 and any winners duel for 2 spots. Cut down round 4 races, the remaining 12 compete for 5 spots. Championship round 3 races, the top 5 fight for the championship
I've got an even better idea, get rid of the championship playoff altogether and go back to like we used to do it. A Q lift points championship none of this stuff that's a gimmick.
Lucas Oil Late Models tried the 1 race championship format last year and most people hated it, so they went to a 7 race format where 4 drivers have 7 races to win the title.
I love your ideas for the playoffs. Also no more win and your in. Just get extra playoff points. Also regular season champion gets automatic spot in final 4. The regular season championship should mean more
The head aches are Concussions and MICRO CONCUSSIONS (Aka “SLED HEAD”). It’s a big problem and dirty secret with the full containment seat / “Hans” style neck restraint setup especially for drivers on dirt who’s head pinballs back and forth at higher oscillating frequencies for long durations due to track surfaces and more radical suspension movements. The damage caused by these micro impacts compile causing the same Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy as a single large impact. The “sled head” effects aren’t as bad for pavement racing however the traditional neck restraint system that was adopted by dirt racing wasn’t ideal. In fact, I’ve claimed over and over that a traditional old school neck brace restraint is more safe for those forms of racing as it supports both axis of head motion and reduces oscillation. The problem is most of the skull fractures we witnessed where with folks not wearing ANY form of available restraint system including neck braces. NASCAR and SFI jumped on the Hans which was already developed with data but never tested alternative offerings. The Hans itself is likely most effective for nascar style racing but not so for others. The effects of these micro impacts are far worse then you just wiggling your head back and forth. The impacts are faster and harder and the frequency is insane. There ls also additional reverberating frequencies resulting from the helmet impacting the head and then the headrest just like a bell ringing. It’s A bell inside a bell. I have sounded the alarm on this topic multiple times and demonstrated concern for our youth in the sport getting millions of micro concussions through their life and the multiple stages of their brain development, that’s far worse then any other sport including football. A football player hits heads once every snap. I racer can get this amount of impact in a single lap on dirt. Combined with large impacts that are far more severe and we have a big problem. You’ll see that one day, these micro concussions will be noted and you’ll all hear the term “sled head” everywhere. “Sled head” is named after Bob Sledding where those retired athletes suffered from severe CTE. The study attributed it to the constant low impact head trauma from their head slamming back and forth through the course. It should also be noted (theory not fact) that these frequencies and helmet movement combined with the fire resistant synthetic materials of helmet foam, liners, skirt and head socks isn’t the friendliest on hair follicles. If you haven’t noticed, racecar drivers seem to universally begin balding rapidly at an extremely young age. Especially those with a helmet on multiple times a week or for hours on end due to long distances events. This has become more evident since the change in materials and the use of the Hans/ Containment seat.
I feel so bad for Alex Bowman. He is running so good. BH is there a way you can keep track of where bowman would have been in the playoffs if he wasn’t disqualified. I think it would be interesting to see where the 48 team would have been
Go Back To The Original Chase Format With The 2004-2006 10 Driver/2004-2013 10 Race Format With Chase Points And No Point Resets For The NASCAR Cup Series. But Go Back To The Full Season Points Format, For The Lower Series AKA The Xfinity Series And Truck Series,
I still think a 3, 3, 4 race round would be best for NASCAR, cut it back down to 12 especially if we might only have 32 charters next season. Last 4 races consists of a road course, 1.5 mile track, short track, and if NASCAR wants to be wild throw in a wild card super Speedway but I'd pefer a 2 mile super speedway endurance race to crown a championship
Playoff style of championship is just dumb. No matter the iteration, itll be hard to respect the end of the season champion, especially if they lucked their way in.
Almost no mention of his part of the wreck. Took minutes for them to even say anything that he was involved, and nothing about his head on into the wall.
You ain't wrong. I did a little research and found that from 2004-2013, the deserving champion got it 5 times. And the years that didn't have it, the champion we got usually still finished 2nd-4th in points. In the elimination style, only 3 times have we had the accurate champion. Martin Truex Jr in 2017, Kyle Busch in 2019, and Kyle Larson in 2021. And we've had multiple points where the champion we got, would've finished outside the top 5 in full season points. The chase format wasn't perfect, but it's a whole lot better than what we currently got.
any chance you can give your predictions for the rookie of the year Xfinity for next year seeing as there are like seven rookies for next year probably even more
Idea keep the playoffs For the regular season only the first five drivers are automatically in the playoffs while the rest for survival even if they have wins. Another idea bring back the old playoffs and the 4 drivers with the highest points will race for a championship no one else.
Instead of the a three race stint to decide a Champion why don't we just count point's for the whole season, and then crown a Champion. You know just like the Winston points system that worked just fine! Get rid of the playoffs all together!!!!
Nascar fans only know complaining, I swear. Been following for like 7-8 years now and every week "fans" cry about the sport. "Change this, fix that, the old way is better, blah blah." 😂
Brakehard if Nascar does the Wild Card, then do you think the top 5 playoffs standing should automatically locked in the round of 12 including the regular season champion? Also if they go for the one race Wild Card then do you think it should be the drivers from 6th to 16th Playoffs Standings & 7 drivers will lock there way in? Also if there is a Wild Card Race, then would that eliminate a bye week Completely for the Cup Series & they'll have to race Saturday before Easter & Do you think a Wild Card Race should be one week before Round of 12 Starts at Southern 500 Labor Day Weekend? Your Thoughts Please?
I like your version of the championship, but I would only have 12 drivers, not 16, and lose that wildcard race you, just have the 3 rounds, no win and you're in.
How can NASCAR not know how bad fans hate the greediness and the Chase format? I’ve been a fan since the mid 70’s. This is awful and to honest I’m about done with it! 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I think they should cut the champ round to the best of 3 drivers over 3 races and bring back that annoying 2018 NBC terminology "The Big 3". Make a podium style championship ceremony where whoever finishes 2nd and 3rd in points gets a way smaller but one of a kind trophy from one of the cup series title sponsors like Busch and coca cola. Just an idea.
Problem with your format is that this is NASCAR racing. Crashes can happen. Like it was on Sunday. And just like that, you lose three top tear teams from championship race. That's not an option. As for "no game 7" moment... You probably forgot last weeks race at roval. Where faith of playoff drivers decided in the race and after the race. Plus either it was last race of regular season... maybe. The race where everyone complained about Larson's domination. Where it was unclear until last moment who's in who's out... Probably the person who said "fans simply like to complain" was correct
@@miketwotwenty He is signed to Gibbs and they don’t have a truck team and the Xfinty cars are lot closer to the late models and arca cars. He is very talented been to a couple of his races. Joe Gibbs also speaks very highly about his talents

I plan to speak about potential changes to the points format with Steve Phelps on November 15th. I'll keep your idea in mind.
i kinda like your playoff idea better than what we have now

alright , Is the three playoff races just going to be the drivers that make the final four , or everyone else also ?
How many times did they change the playoffs from 2007 to 2017?

Boycott cinnamon in Cincinnati style Chili. Keep the rest!😁🤘

Should have been Ryan Truex.

How’s about a 10 race chase.
Better yet, why not a whole season of fighting for the championship instead of just 10 races
