  • In this series I'll show and explain how a violin is build.
For this instrument I use a single piece bird-eye maple back and scroll and a spruce top. I build the violin on the A. Stradivari 1715 model.
In step 13 I I sign all the measurements on the neck and peg box and cut the first part of the scroll.

Great videos as always, a pleasure to watch! May I suggest adding a little bit more information about measures, like neck length, seem to me a very important step in the scroll carving, and perhaps discuss the relationship between back flutes and the front of the pegbox, that I think is a very important aspect as well, thank you!

Thank you for your kind words! Measurements can be different according to different models, that's why I don't mention theme.

Thank you for this. It is very good stuff! I have been inspired to start my own violin. Suggestion: You can use the English word "mark" where you use the word "sign" :-) Thanks again!

Thanks for your posts ! What you call "scroll" is acyually the neck and the scroll (volute) is the "head" of it… Nice job anyway !

Sometimes I make a mess with the names of the parts I'll try to be more consistent in the following ones!

@@maestrokimon Oh, by the way, I notice that the Italian word “segno” is used for the English ideas, “to sign”, and also, “to make a mark”. We often use them interchangeably in English when we say, “Put your mark there.” meaning to affix you signature.
To my point when we put pencil lines on wood for cutting, we say we are “marking” the wood, or making a mark at 21 cm. rather than making a sign. I love languages and also speak Spanish, so I thought you might want to know.
I think your content is absolutely riveting, and I think you deserve a great many more followers.

Thank you! I have several questions about measurements. Is there a standard width for the fingerboard? Is there a standard for the width or depth of the nut? I'm a little bit unclear of their placement. And the sides of the pegbox? I see how you cheated the edges somewhat to allow for the g string, but I'm unclear of the general width. Finally, the template you use for the back of the scroll - is that commonly available in kits like the one you're using, or is that something you've made yourself? Thank you!

I think you want to say "marking" instead of "signing". I am sure everyone understands what you mean, but it is not the correct word.
