    the most important things are the sode , ko uchi and kata guruma, how you can have a complete judo gokyo without Mifune's go to throw and a technique fundamental to Kano's story is beyond me.

    Whoever that uke is, he must be the Kodokan's designated punching bag. The poor guy is the uke in TONS of the Kodokan's nage waza videos!

    • @diynevala
      @diynevala 2 месяца назад +1

      I can relate to this Uke. He does his role very well. Being able to help Tori with their intensions is a very specific skill, it does not require being tough. It requires good understanding where the technique is going and how to minimize discomfort while not resisting the action itself. I believe I am a good uke, backed by the fact that many people of varying levels of skill prefer to have me as an uke - I will make it easy for them to kuzushi, tsukuri and kake.
      Good uke => tori does not use strength => technique looks clean => uke is not broken down.

    • @kusotare9559
      @kusotare9559 2 месяца назад +2

      @@diynevala The unfortunate calculus is that the better uke you are, the more likely you are to be asked to be the uke in almost any setting. I like to think I'm a good uke, too, but I'm getting too old to take that many falls. And in all honesty, it's not the falls that take it out of me, it's the standing up part!

    • @diynevala
      @diynevala 2 месяца назад

      @@kusotare9559 Well I am 46 and the fact that people start losing muscle after 40 will do that to anyone.
      Before anyone corrects me, we don't LOSE muscle after 40, the muscle growth just slows down and most of us will experience net loss.
      I have always been somewhat elastic and somehow tough, never broken a bone and also fast healing so I am kinda built to be uke. I have founded a judo club where I teach, so I get to switch roles whenever I don't feel like getting thrown.

    I saw this pop up one morning in my feed and my reaction was "I don't understand anything in text but the red and white colors message enough and this feels like fantasy". I was actually watching the montage of lost techniques by Grappler Kingdom and drooling over kata gurumas, te gurumas and sodes with leg grab. Especially the front flip sodes or the cartwheel kata guruma looks so great.
    The only thing I don't like about this is the hands free attacks. I already didn't like scoring attacks where you let go of the grips before ippon. I personally think you should execute techniques from grips. I'm a believer that it does make slightly safer judo without suffering negative effects.

    • @TheNEOverse
      @TheNEOverse 2 месяца назад +1

      That's not how its going to work. You cannot just tack folkstyle leg attacks onto Judo and expect good things. A lot of leg grabs don't score because they don't satisfy the ippon conditions. If you hate the modern shido game, you will hate what leg grab judo can look like.
      Jacket wrestling has different needs. The O-uchi to ankle pick is something that will actually get results.
