I just love when I learn something new...today I learned a few things about robins but the most interesting to me was the story of the Christmas robin and how she got her red breast....that to me was most precious of all...you're just a treasure trove of information aren't you? Loved watching you paint this stunning wreath and the robin for the 7th in this collection~loving all of them~Happy New Year Cheryl~Hugs from Hollywood!
Well, I guess I'm going to have to admit nerd-status. I used to read encyclopedias as a kid, and now I google for info before I post. And about that legend, hmm, I've had 3 people from England -- all around our age -- tell me they never heard it. Why do great legends have to die? Espesh such good ones?! And thanks, dear Hollywood! Wishing you a fabulous Year of the Black Water Tiger! And don't worry about trying to figure that one out! I have a whole month before Lunar New Year's to make a video and explain that legend ... that isn't dying! 🤣😄👍
I didn’t know there were different cousins but this is simply because I am not a bird spotter. Kind of love being educated about them though. I love a good orange in my Xmas cards - feels warm and cosy!
Not "simply because". I didn't know about the European robin and many people are having the same reaction. And virtually no one knows the Christmas legend .... hmmmm. BUT, now a few do and thanks so much for your art hug! Nice expression "warm and cosy" ... now that makes me happy! 🤗😊😄
I really love your Robin card and the wreath is purely beautiful - the border around the edge gives the card context and a touch of class - all the best for 2022 ✨🎉✨🥂✨🎊✨
Many thanks, Spectrum, and you're one of my top supporters! I really appreciate all your wonderful comments through the year and wish you an awesome 2022 as well! 🤩🤗🤩
Yeah, and until this year I never heard of the European robin, but when I go online to download a picture there are hardly any copyright free American robins but absolutely tons of European robins! Wow, I learned a lot researching this video! Appreciate your comment! 🤩
They are beautiful. We don't have them. We do have the most beautiful small fly catchers. I love it. Beautiful story about the Robin warming the stable. ❤ the orange in there
Such a lovely robin and wreath. So that's how you start painting, by wetting the paper to create a softer wet-in-wet look. Good to know some robin facts, how the American and European Robins are similar yet different all along while you paint. It's fun to watch you paint as you do your details layer by layer. Looking forward for more content. Cheers!
And the inside secrets of the soft background in watercolor! I paint more wet in wet than most watercolorists, but the effect is so magical so won't stop 😄And if you do a lot of wet in wet painting, you'll need to get the better paper as a lot of papers just won't hold up. Thoughtful statement, my artist friend 🥰
Thank you, dear Erica! I think of all 7 so far, this is my favorite! Was fun learning about the robins too! Attaching a warm smile and big thoughts for the last year of 2021! I hope it's fabulously special 🤩🥰🤗
So beautiful... Loved the Robin's cute face... And you have beautifully explained the differences of those Robin's ... And Indian Robin is a completely different one... Lovely color combination...
How very fascinating! So before I answered you, I looked up the family of the Indian robin (and discovered a number more robins I didn't know about in North American alone!) Anyway, the Indian robin is in the same Old world flycatcher family along with the European robin, but I have to say, its slimmer lines remind me a bit of the American robin. Wow, the learning I have done today! 😄
You and me both, and so what I learned, I shared. Warm thanks, dear friend, for such a supportive comment! I always support you back. Your content is excellent 🥰🥰

You are a kind art teacher and a great painter! The animals in your Christmas series have the power to bring people back to their childhood! ^^ Happy New Year! 😁👍
My wonderful friend, Ajae! Thank you for such warm comments on the robin and the painting style! Really love how the colors harmonize and the litter bird sings in the middle, but super happy with the learning about nature that took place. I'm realizing my channel is becoming somewhat of a nature journey, not just in pigment, but also in nature info ... and loving this change. Warm thoughts to you, and wishing you a wonderful end to 2021 and a magnificent beginning to 2022! 🤩🥰
Hello Cheryl, I love the European robin. We do have several in the garden coming to the bird feeder although they are getting more rare than they were when I was little. The Christmas legend you told was completely new to me. I never heard that it was this tiny bird that kept the fire in the stable burning and it must have been a Christmas miracle that his tiny wings and stature allowed him to keep everybody warm, a big salute for this lovely fellow! Loved that you put cinnamon sticks and orange slices on your wreath and made everything in such perfect color harmony to the robin! Your card collection is growing and I am completely charmed. Sending a big Old Year/New Year hug and wishing you the best start ever into 2022, Erika
Hi dear Erica! You're actually the third person from UK to say they've never heard the story, and of course the American group hasn't because our robin migrates and we'd never associate it with Christmas. Hmm, maybe the legend is dying, but it is sure fun to glean great info about a particular animal and share it. This is my favorite in the collection so far -- hope I'm allowed to have a favorite in my own collection, lol -- and only 5 more, but the painting is going faster now that I have free time. One more day for 2021 and hope the last day is a special one, and whee for the promise of another year and fresh opportunities! NY hug to you! 🤗🥰Cheryl
LOL, you and me both are learning here ... but that Christmas legend can't possibly apply to the American robin ... unless you live in Texas where they migrate to for the winter 😋
Such a beautiful and detailed work. It looks fascinating to watch on how you do this artwork. Thank you lots! Sending you my best wishes, have a healthy and a prosperous New Year!
Oh yes, I am! The same for you! I'll be putting the tutorials in Patreon and the artwork as cards for sale in Fine Art America. Do you use that site as well?
Very big warm thanks, Art of Life! And an inside secret, this one and the penguin were the easiest to paint, so your comment really makes me even happier! Wishing you an amazing New Year, my friend 🤩🤗🥰
So beautiful wreath Cheryl! love the dried fruit ornaments but that robin is just so adorable! 🤩😍☺ love how all your cards have balanced colors and go well together! amazing work! 🤩🤩 big big hug! 🤗💖
Many thanks, Mary, and I didn't really mean to use a limited palette throughout but I think so far I've used only 9-10 colors and so for those taking the tutorials, they won't have to spend a ton on getting "the right" paint colors. And they'll look so color harmonious too in a card box next Christmas. I think your channel too has a small color palette, which is great and makes you better known as an artist! Giant art hug, dear friend 🤩🤗🥰
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta I agree that limited color palette at the end gives more harmonius paintings :) That card box is going to be gorgeous! Big hug and have the best New Year Cheryl! 🥰🤗☺
LOL, it's ok if you have no words. Just pull out your paintbrush and paint your feelings 🤣Actually I'm really happy how this one turned out ... it's my favorite (Am I allowed to have a favorite in my own series?!?! LOL) 🤩🤗 One more day till New Years! I hope your last day of 2021 is MAGNIFICENT! 🥰
Many thanks for such warm remarks, Dear SoSoHan! I'm loving making these Christmas cards and now waiting for your next upload! Have a wonderful New Year! 🤩🤗
Congratulations for this Robin art card . Very lovely card . And the European robin is much more cute .Like the little story .Best greetings , Robert .
Agreed! The European robin is so much like the very adorable chickadee! Many thanks for such great comments, and wishing you a great New Year, Robert 🤗🤗🤗
Hi Cheryl, love your painting and your Robin story! This Robin story was unknown to me! In the Netherlands this story is told: One day, some 2,000 years ago, a brown bird saw from her tree branch that Jesus, weighed down by a heavy cross, was being pulled through the streets of Jerusalem. A crown of thorns poked at his bloodied head. The little brown bird took pity and flew down. To ease the pain, she pulled a thorn out of his head. From that thorn hung a drop of blood and it fell on her chest. That red color never came off again. Because one little brown bird tried to ease Jesus' pain, all the brown birds, the females and the males, received a red breast as a thank you from God from that day on. They are so happy with their beautiful red breast that they always stick it out proudly as if to say, "Look how beautiful I am!" Because of the striking color of the breast, people have come to call this bird "robin. Love your Christmas cards and your stories I wish you a Happy New Year, big hug Rikie (-:
Thank you, dear Rikie! I hadn't heard the first robin story and never heard the Netherland version, but wow do I love the sense of self-sacrifice in both! BTW, I saved the story in case I create another robin painting. I'll have different content and such touching content too! I also looked up "porpoise bird" to see if I could get a reference to the robin but only the dolphin's cousin appeared. Perhaps it's the French variation of robin. Warm thoughts for you and huge cyber hug! I don't know if you're into Chinese zodiac, but wishing you a great Year of the Black Water Tiger 🤩🤗🥰 I'll share a story on that one too ... but first I have to learn it 🤣👍❣️
I have four small lamps in the corners of the table because the overhead puts a huge glare on the work. The lighting is something I really battle with so really appreciate your comment! And this was a really easy paint -- so many loose strokes 🤩🤗👍🥰
Another wonderful work. Your Wreath is so unique and creative, and the robin is absolutely adorable. Looking forward to the next one. Wishing you a very happy and prosperous new year dear friend.
Very beautiful Christmas card. I love the Robin, it's my favorite bird. It's Michigan's state bird and I used to go to Michigan to work each year as a kid. Happy New Year!!
Yup, it's my state bird, and btw, I'll be returning to the states and beautiful MI in March. 30 years overseas and it's time to be an American again. I might have told you, but if not, it's going to be ... life-changing 😋And happy New Year, Dora! Let's see what 2022 has in store for us!! 🤩🤗🥰
The robin is adorable, I like the way you put layers on top of layers to create the richness of colors and ornaments. You have a very detailed eye which make your painting unique. Wish you a great year ahead with many joy and lucks.
Many thanks, Cala, and to let you in on a secret, this painting and the penguin were by far my easiest to paint. Appreciate your great comments! And just enjoyed your Christmas tree, and see that we have similar ways of painting!!! When I saw your painting style, I could guess your steps. It was almost like we were holding the same brush ... kind of surreal 😄Art hug to you, friend 🤗🤗🤗
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta Haha, i share with you my secret also. The Christmas tree is my second attempt with watercolor. My first time was 19 years ago when i still was in school. I have seen yours and some other youtubers' watercolor drawing and i felt inspired with this material so I want to try again with it. I had to watched your clips and others a few time to guess the steps and understand the techniques. I failed three times with the blue background and finally i understand the wet on wet technique. In general i enjoy using watercolor. I think I will learn more and try to paint one for my traditional dishes for this coming Lunar New Year. Great to know you, i like your paintings and the soothing feelings your clips brought to me. Hug!
@@cala-arts1189 LOL! You're very good! And another secret, I did exactly as you did. I watched a professional painter over and over to understand how to do my Swan at Dawn. And the one I shared was my second attempt. Yep!!! That is how we learn!!! That's an inspiring secret ... you should share it more 🤗
👍 #31 Hi Cheryl, before I forget, The European Robin was voted the UK number 1 favorite Bird. ◕‿◕ I enjoyed the wreath coming together with each added color and detail. I had a pet disabled rescue Robin for almost a year before 'Sid' passed away earlier this year. It was nice seeing your Robin come together too and the artistic license on the 'red' breast. Thank you as always my dear friend. 👍◕‿◕
Hi Jane, Have to say I learned tons on this upload. My UK friend and I were talking about robins and trying to clear up my cultural confusion why the robin was so popular in the winter when "clearly" they just weren't around. Well, you know the rest of the story now, and One-minute Birding told me about the Indian robin (which is in the same nightingale family as your European bird). Wow, so fun to learn! I didn't realize, but you seem to have a menagerie of animals inside your home as well as those you scope out for documenting. And lol, on the artistic license. I didn't want to add yet another color to this palette but was really surprised at how dark the burnt orange became when it dried. Still, I'm happy with the results, and a big thank you for such wonderful comments! One more day for 2021. I hope it's a memorable and magnificent day, my wonderful friend 🤩🤗
So sorry that somehow I missed this video earlier. So glad to catch it today. Always love your video, because I can learn not only painting skills, but also knowledge about the bird. You are truly amazing artist and teacher! Love the design! Love the lively and lovely bird! Fully enjoyed with such a joy! Happy new year, my dear friend ❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹
No worries, Bright, and apologies also for responding so late. I needed some time away from YT. Big thanks on such wonderful comments on the art and me as an educator. Those words really mean a lot as both are big values in my life 🤗So many thanks, Bright, and wishing you an even more productive year than 2021! Happy Year of the Black Water Tiger to you! 🤩🤗🥰
Hi Cheryl - so we LOVE robins, I was amazed at the information about the Robin. I am a huge bird watcher and forwarded this video to my mom, we have several feeders for birds and squirrels in both of our yards. I want to see the European robin, such an amazing story. Yes, we love our Robin because that means spring has sprung. - Love this xxoo
Ah, you're a bird watcher too! My mom has feeders and suet blocks outside her kitchen window and wow do we have the activity! I never saw a European robin either but since we probably both love chickadees, they're on the same plane of ADORABLE! Hugs to you! Had a nice 2 day vacay away from YT, and it was wonderful 🤗
@@LoriHoustonArt Actually was finally at the hospital getting checked out yesterday. Seems I'm having some not so nice reaction to the vaccination from several months ago and the young doctor won't consider the holy vax as causing my problems. And yeppers, was happy for the break 🤩

I love the warm colors, and your Christmas card must be adorable! And I just learned that the European robin was voted as the favorite bird in UK. So we paint greatness, LOL! 😄
Beautiful work.. It's a two in one entertainment for me😀😀...one thing enjoyed watching you paint and can learn something. secondly it's interesting to hear your story about American and European robin😀😀😀
I had so much fun learning about the wildlife and sharing what I learned, and really appreciate you commenting on the educational factor AND the painting! 🤗Have a super day, DD! 🤗
European robin is cutter than American robin for Christmas.😍😍 Your Christmas wreath with dried slices of oranges is beautiful and unique! Also, thanks for the explanations of the robins!
Totally agree! The American robin lacks fluff and cute roundness to be an adorable bird sweetheart! When I started painting this, I had no idea all this history ... so much fun to learn!!!! 🤗🤗
Awww I really love the Robin to is just sooo cute ! I have no words to describe it! You have really painted the wreath and the robin really well! 😍😍😍I am in love with your artwork ! Stay safe and have a good day
Hope you had a lovely Christmas Cheryl. Watched your latest two cards earlier this evening. The robin is absolutely gorgeous and this plump little European robin is, of course, the one that I am familiar with. I have them visit my garden frequently, often found in the undergrowth. They are friendly, almost tame birds too, and you have captured their little character here perfectly. Beautiful colourful series of cards. Well done 👏👏👏👏👏👏🧑🎨🎨💜😊 I was not familiar with the legend, so thank you for sharing that 💜🙏
So many people have said they've never heard the legend, Europeans and Brits in our age category, so I'm surprised. Americans just wouldn't know as our robin isn't even around in winter so we'd probably pooh-pooh the story. But I didn't know the European robin was so friendly. They sound much like the chickadee and sparrow -- around, friendly, cheerful and willing enough to eat from the outstretched hand in winter. Would love to see one ... some day! Thank you for such warm comments on all of my paintings. You are such a wonderful artist and a great friend! I hope your last day of 2021 is magnificent!!! Warm art hug 🤩🤗🥰
Looking forward to your new creations this year Cheryl. Your work and videos are a joy to watch. They are all wonderful but one of my absolute favourite was the little cute kitty.
🤗🥰Cheryl
Such a sweet little robin! I had never heard the Christmas robin story before, thanks for sharing that as well. Another treasure!
LOL, you and me both are learning here ... but that Christmas legend can't possibly apply to the American robin ... unless you live in Texas where they migrate to for the winter 😋
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta I have already re-told the story of the Christmas robin to a friend, such a cute story ( and cute little birdie you painted)
@@sherrymarsden1528 🤗🤩😋🌼🌈
Such a beautiful and detailed work. It looks fascinating to watch on how you do this artwork. Thank you lots! Sending you my best wishes, have a healthy and a prosperous New Year!
So many thanks, Wonders of Nature! I'm loving your warm wishes and hope your year is wonderfully productive and satisfying! 🤩🤩
Great job Cheryl! This collection is a great addition to your channel, and you should be very proud of your accomplishment!
Oh yes, I am! The same for you! I'll be putting the tutorials in Patreon and the artwork as cards for sale in Fine Art America. Do you use that site as well?
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta right now i'm not on any selling platforms. I'm trying to figure all that out.

Very big warm thanks, Art of Life! And an inside secret, this one and the penguin were the easiest to paint, so your comment really makes me even happier! Wishing you an amazing New Year, my friend 🤩🤗🥰
Parabéns pelo trabalho 👏👏👏
A very big warm smile to you! Thank you and sending you hearty New Years wishes! I hope 2022 is a magnificent year for you! 🤩
Wow, such a wonderful painting collection. Have a great day Che.
Many thanks, Jet! And I hope your 2022 is magnificent as well! 🤩🤗🤩
I have no words to tell the beauty of your paintings...
😍
LOL, it's ok if you have no words. Just pull out your paintbrush and paint your feelings 🤣Actually I'm really happy how this one turned out ... it's my favorite (Am I allowed to have a favorite in my own series?!?! LOL) 🤩🤗 One more day till New Years! I hope your last day of 2021 is MAGNIFICENT! 🥰

Love the colors of this one, the greens of the wreath were my favorite. And of course the cute robin as the star, beautiful painting Cheryl 😍
Love the expression - the robin is the star! Thanks, Ken, and I'm thinking this is my favorite card so far among the lot! Just a few more to go 😄😄
Hi Cheryl, love your painting and your Robin story! This Robin story was unknown to me!
In the Netherlands this story is told:
One day, some 2,000 years ago, a brown bird saw from her tree branch that Jesus, weighed down by a heavy cross, was being pulled through the streets of Jerusalem.
Love your Christmas cards and your stories
I wish you a Happy New Year, big hug Rikie (-:
Thank you, dear Rikie! I hadn't heard the first robin story and never heard the Netherland version, but wow do I love the sense of self-sacrifice in both! BTW, I saved the story in case I create another robin painting. I'll have different content and such touching content too! I also looked up "porpoise bird" to see if I could get a reference to the robin but only the dolphin's cousin appeared. Perhaps it's the French variation of robin.
Warm thoughts for you and huge cyber hug! I don't know if you're into Chinese zodiac, but wishing you a great Year of the Black Water Tiger 🤩🤗🥰 I'll share a story on that one too ... but first I have to learn it 🤣👍❣️
Such a beautiful Christmas card. Love it dear friend ❤️❤️

Thank you so much 😀
All your paintings deliver joyful Christmas spirit. Great presentation on a nicely lit & staged table! Enjoyed fully.. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I have four small lamps in the corners of the table because the overhead puts a huge glare on the work. The lighting is something I really battle with so really appreciate your comment! And this was a really easy paint -- so many loose strokes 🤩🤗👍🥰
Wow absolutely beautiful
Thank you so much, Arts Time 😊
Another wonderful work. Your Wreath is so unique and creative, and the robin is absolutely adorable.

@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta I can't remember if you did tell me before but that is so neat. I am sure it will be wonderful, the move and the new year. 😊
That's an inspiring secret ... you should share it more 🤗
So beautiful card 👍👍

wow..so beautiful .. your christmas cards series is awesome..all the cards are so cute..
Many thanks for such wonderful comments on the robin wreath! This was such a fun one to paint! 🤩🤗
Mind blowing sharing
Thanks a lot, Art and Craft!
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta It is nice to learn as you go along, whatever you do in life... yes, soon be 2022, wooooo! lol *Hugs* ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta OH I was wondering where you were :0). Yes huge bird fan, I have amazing pictures. Glad you took a break - need it sometimes.
@@LoriHoustonArt Actually was finally at the hospital getting checked out yesterday. Seems I'm having some not so nice reaction to the vaccination from several months ago and the young doctor won't consider the holy vax as causing my problems. And yeppers, was happy for the break 🤩
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta I think a 2 day break is good - just hard to do that trying to keep up - as you know xxoo
