  • Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Ed O'Brien talk to Dave Fanning about being rock stars, juggling family and work, how painful recording In Rainbows was, whether they should still be making music at their age, having low artistic self-esteem, and Portishead's Third!

    • @MobySlick
      @MobySlick 7 лет назад +53

      who says that is a total dumbass! Ed is as highly important to the band as any other member. If one just watches there live performances closely, it's quite obvious. He adds all these sounds to the catalogue which just bring the full picture to life. I've always admire Radiohead for working so effective since they have 3 guitar players. I know it is hard. Thats one more reason why the are such a fantastic band.

    • @BangoBean
      @BangoBean 7 лет назад +20

      Maxwell Harrison Ratzky true talent is being so subtle that people question why you're even in the band. Jazz is great example of the ultimate art of subtlety... A lot of people would say the same thing about Ringo Starr, that he sucked as a drummer. The guy is a genius when it comes to writing music for the style the Beatles were. In the same regard, Ed falls into this category, but as a guitarist/vocalist/etc... I wouldn't know what the hell to play to half of Radiohead or The Beatles catalogues if I were either of them.

    I don't think Radiohead knows how much they will ALWAYS have a place in the hearts of alternative music fans everywhere... They don't understand what they've done for music and how much they are appreciated. They could play me the phonebook and it'd be genius. They will ALWAYS have a fan base. It may not always be the largest, but it will always be the most loyal and appreciative of true art. Thank you, Radiohead. Thank you for everything. -an 18 year old fan.

    it's interesting to see that, even at their level, there is still that artistic self-doubt and struggle...no matter how many millions have been thrilled by every note they've ever played... it just shows that really every artist has to go through nearly the same struggles regardless of their level of success or talent

    What's genuinely amazing about these interviews: I've heard them talk about how difficult it is when they make albums, but only in generic terms. I have no idea what Ed means when he talks about "trusting the process". But the albums where I've heard the most about them struggling? OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows. There's something powerful in their struggle and I wonder what it is.

  • @alsinger100

    Ok. Here's the obvious: love them! The more they relax and discuss real life situations, quite frankly, the more I respect them and would love to just hang out and have a drink with them. But his "how high are they?" seems to imply that their complete druggies and on drugs all the time. I don't doubt that they've done drugs before, and yes, drugs can make people make great music ( Pink Floyd, The Beatles etc.) It was just his wording that got me kind of pissed.
