Good work! And much respect for the fact that you show the real struggles and that it’s not always easy. Bravo! Not everyone is confident enough in themselves to show these types of much needed videos! (For future truck drivers) ;)
Part of this job is knowing how to adjust to different situations, if that means jumping a curb then that’s what you do. Don’t over panic , that just makes it difficult
Good job Alex I give you mad respect for posting the whole process of backing up and showing your mistakes, and how you overcome them. Especially since most RUclipsrs just cut to the part when they got it in perfectly. In our line of work we gotta make some sketchy decisions but as long as you and the truck are safe you all good👍🏽
That’s what I said I drive in the city the five boroughs that Parking spot looks easy compared to the tight spots I’ve had to deal with Alex needs to start practicing more in tighter spots so he won’t be so nervous.
@@jusblaze2015Im a driver of the big rigs myself and often admit to others that my backing talent aint very great (probably bottom 40% of truckers if I had to estimate) BUT does that worry or alarm me at all ever? Nope because I've never destroyed anything during a back in and I refuse to stress if it takes me longer to complete the task than better backing truckers😁

Places like this are buildings that were built in early times when it was only recieveing cabovers and 48 footers not OTR sleeper trucks with a 53, no shame my guy you did well!
Really enjoy your videos Alex. I am a supply boat captain in the Gulf of Mexico oilfield. I really enjoy you sharing your day to day work routine and struggles. Thank you again Alex.
Alex you had that back on point until that guy told you to run the curb over, I would have made the same decision to 90 that into the dock. One thing that has always helped me when doing a 90 and will always go exactly where you want it to is to pull your trailer past the spot you want to go into but only pull past it about the width of a trailer (not the length) and just cut it like you normally would for a 90 and it will go into the spot every time. I no longer do 45 degree backs because doing it this way you will get into the spot so easily. Trust me when I tell you this because I run a dollar tree account that requires these kinds of backs on a daily basis.
Also like to add, to not be afraid to ask for a better dock assignment or for their Trailer Jockies to dock it for you. I noticed that just a couple of docks down would be an easy pull up into parking lot for a straight back in. It was insane for them to give you that dock position with your long haul, long nose cab setup. It's one thing if that's their ONLY dock but worth a try to get a better setup by simply asking nicely for them to provide a better, faster dock position or solution. Good for you to get it docked safely and not try and hurriedly force the trailer back and end up damaging something.
one thing I learned is to pay attention to your surroundings and I dont mean GOAL. I mean look for signs that tires have worn out a certain area. The curb in front of you looked like the grass had been killed from other drivers having to jump the curb also. It might not be pretty but you're not the first to jump it and probably not the last. You did well for a sleeper with a 53 footer
Good work! With the bungees you hook the chain then hook it under the trailer near the tires.. there are areas where it’ll hook to that creates tension, just for temporary securement. Those yellow things are Jack stands 😊 be careful or you’ll be covered in 5th wheel grease
Hey Alex! I was riding along with you in my comfy armchair! This was a real tough backing job, but you kept your cool! 😎 I need a nap! See ya! Bill Retired NYPD

I personally would have done a blind side, you had a lot more room that way. But hey. This is the future of trucking. Safety vest on. GoPro running. And no idea how to drive an automatic truck
I'm a newbie myself and just asking. Could it had been easier to do a blindside backing? More space on the other side when Alex pulled out of the parking lot.

You can definitely see where others have went up on the curb across the street to get in. You let the trees and jacks and curb influence your decision making. Find an empty lot and practice. Anyone can do a straight back or basic 45
I run a day cab on a 48 most days in a downtown setting. one of the biggest things I was taught in school and otj training is your set up determines the ease of the back. When you was first riding by the dock you should’ve almost drove straight into the white truck and dove across the street and back to about the steer axle of the white truck this would’ve angled your trailer a lot better into the dock and keeping your cab away from the sidewalk giving you room to get straight for a straight line back. Hope this helps boss
He should know by now what that low transmission air warning is. It’s normal when backing and pulling forward into tight spots in some trucks. But good job never the less 👍🏼
