      Been a recident of Oslo now for 32 yrs (however, I grew up a bit further south), and I can tell you that the city is the most cosmopolitan place in Norway-there are MANY different nationalities here. I work in a GO in downtown Oslo, for instance, and among my colleagues are people with Somali origin, Eritrean, Turkish, Ukrainian, Ex-Yugoslavia, Pakistani, German, Polish, Singalese..

    "There are some racist individuals, for sure". Totally agree. And you can find that in any country on the planet, unfortunately. Including among people of colour. Let me give you just one example (could have given more, but due to lack of time and space.) I have a friend from Eritrea (East Africa, for those of you who are clueless), he used to date a girl with singalese background- born in Norway, both parents from Sri Lanka. Things went fine for a few months, then he suggested to the girl that it would be nice to meet the girls parents (who knew nothing about this young man). When they found out..well, their reaction wasn`t exactly enthusiastic. Supposedly, a white Norwegian would have been "okay", but most of all they would prefer that their daughter found a good singalese boyfriend. Now; had this girls parents been white Norwegian, they would IMMEDIATELY been branded racist (with good reason), however, due to the fact that they were also people of colour.. nobody speaks about it.. "just a preference, you know" (!).

    • @missaliyah
      @missaliyah  Год назад +3

      That's so true. I know amongst the African diaspora that this is thing. Sometimes it's a cultural (the parents wanting son or daughter to date and marry people some the some country), while in come cases, cases like the one you mentioned it might be for a superficial reasons such as status. I have heard of a couple of mixed raced dating situations where this often become a problem. Unfortunately, there is whole charade of "it just a preference" that has become a trend, and is increasingly becoming a norm (not just among people of colour).
      I often find myself getting into conversations about this with new people I meet (especially guys). I try to stay out of having an opinion on too much, this being on those topics, but it's really interesting to observe todays dating market, and how vastly superficial it has become.

      South Asians/Desi People (from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka) are some of the most racist people towards Blacks, with East Asians coming in second. The 'model minority' label has inflated their egos. I wouldn't even consider dating them (if it's not them, it's their parents). One of my best friends in my late teens - early 20s was an Indian-American and her parents did not like her spending time with me or sleeping over at my place because of my race - She literally quoted her parents. Meanwhile my mother was so hospitable whenever she hung out in my home, yet I was never invited to her home.

    At the end of the day, you get racism in every country. It depends on the part and on the people. I have a friend in Norway who’s 34 and is of Pakistani descent, and he hasn’t been able to get a job because of his race. That’s very sad. He has it hard. However, I acknowledge that obviously not all Norwegians are racist.

    I guess that some of the questions that hurt are not given for to hurt. No mather where you are or the color of your skin if you look diferente people wonder and give silly ( sometimes hurting ) questions. You told that children looked at you ( maybe because they never had sin brown people before ) and adult in most cases are like children. Remember the only diference between a boy and a man is the sice of his toys.

    I don't know people just like traveling and living where they find a suitable lifestyle. I think the main reason people complain so much about racism in the USA is because of the media and very small percentage of people complain to other people world wide, overall the entire people of America have people from the entire world and people look bad on any group who says things like white this black that when talking in a bad way and not addressing there own color of people like themselves. So for instance here in America people like to be many ways introverted piece of mind not want attention and don't like others almost yelling when they talk. Ok yet other people like to be extroverted always attention seeking and talking so load you can hear them clear when not even near. Overall America has mixed people of any color and family nomatter where you go in America, no one listens to negative people anymore, that's why negative people are so jealous, almost everyone is mixed in some type of way in America nowdays.

      Watch the video, she said she is Burundian and born in Rwanda. Not all Africans are dark skinned, it's an extremely diverse continent with variation in appearance within every country, (even within the same ethnic group, or even within the same family). The majority of "black" South Africans are close to her color. The majority of Igbo people from Nigeria are close to her color.
