Finally, someone who just explains how to measure it. Thank you so much for this video. I've been asking people about this and they've been telling me everything but what to measure on the window for a bug screen.
To measure the width of the window screen at the beginning of this video, why does it need to subtract 1/8"? It would leave out a small gap and insect can go in, wouldn't it?
Seems like he should have said to subtract 1/8" but only if you measure *all the way into* one of the side U-channels (like here: www.allaboutwindowscreens.com/singlehung.html), but he said only to measure from the *inside edge* of both channels.
Subtracting 1/8" makes sense to me, leaving 1/16 gap on each end, so you can slip the screen frame in and out of the window easily. The 'gap' for insects is not a problem, assuming the FACE of the frame is tight against the inside face of the window. That's my understanding, and seems simple to me. Am I missing something?
Did you measure from the inside or the outside of the window? I had the same problem, and re-measured from the inside. My windows are weird, and it looks like you'd only be able to install the screens from the inside.

what about the tension springs @1:04 ? Will they fit with the extra 1/16th gap explained @1:01 ?
Great video I'd love to use this as a reference video for my customers
EZ PZ so much better than the long winded YT vids.
great teaching if I could see what they are measuring, it's all faded out in the back ground ..
He has a very soothing voice. Not as good as Morgan Freeman but soothing enough.
Nobody has a more soothing voice then Morgan Freeman.
Gilbert Godfried would have better on this video. Less confusing.

Ah yeah anyone gonna answer? doesn't make any sense to make the width smaller?????
@wikispeedia My kid says to minus 1 to 1/2 inches for corner inserts. But it says to do it for width and height. ?? wtf

@@staind420 Yes. The corner inserts extend 1 1/2" total beyond the metal frames.

Thank you for this!
I must be doing something wrong but I measured exactly as instructed and now got gaps on the side.

The windows I’m working with have a channel on all sides. lol like 1 1/2 inch on one side. How can you even get that in. lol
Theres a tool called a "flex tenna steel" that u can buy at home depot that extends. U can use that to measure your windows.
Yeah.... but the title is misleading because it doesn’t show how to cut
can't get sound ... see lips moving but nothing. don't know what i'm supposed to measure
It works for me. Try it now
the more I watch these "help" videos, the more I get confused. These "experts" all say different things.
You must of had a lot more views with covid aha
1/8 of an inch, man America is weird
Tell me about it, I wish we'd switch to metric ),:
