I have this year, engine Soul but mines a manual trans. Few added tips and/or what I do that I do not see in this video. 1) warm up the engine 1st so the oil isn't ice cold, it will flow better and drain more out. 2) Use a ratchet with a 17mm socket, it's a lot easier. 3) Use a strap based oil filter wrench ( I have one with a flex handle ) it will grab the filter easier and better. 4) I pre-fill my oil filter then install but if you do not then when you start the car, your oil level will not be at the full mark, you must add more oil after that to get back to the full mark. 5) Souls take 5w -20 oil not 10w-30. You can also use any full synthetic oil it doesn't have to be high mileage oil even if you have high mileage. 6) Put your ramps so that they are touching your front tires before you drive up them, it keeps both ramps even so you aren't driving off the ramp before hitting the ends!
CHANGE the crush washer on the drain pan to prevent future leaks! The next is a pro/con choice, since the oil filter is being installed in a vertical position, my preference is to add oil to the filter before installation. I do this to prevent no oil to the main bearings on startup, maybe minor to some but remember this is a KIA engine and I don't want to take any chances.
you are one of the best teachers on youtube what a perfect detailed video you literally answered my questions as I thought of them very nice keep it up!
Thanks. Getting ready to change the oil on my daughter’s 2017 Soul for the first time. I saw those little doors under there. I think I’ll just take off the cover. Great info.
Thank you for your input. Yes, there a hassle , and I don't think there's enough room for me, plus you get to see if there are any leaks of other problems.
@@notsofast2325 Exactly. I also have a truck with a metal skid plate and a full size van with a plastic one. Seems like I’m always removing and re-installing something before and after an change oil. I appreciate guys like you showing me where all the clips and fasteners are before I start. Thanks.
A good thing to do if you haven’t pre filled the oil filter is to start the vehicle once at full mark to fill the oil filter. Then check the oil level again and add as needed
It's upright and can be done. I'm not worried about changing the filter. Your trans fluid is not like your engine motor oil. But if you want to pay to have it done , go at it.
You share that the manufacturer says to use 10-20 but 12:01 minutes into the video the oil cap states 5-20. I can look it up but is there a reason why it differs from your experience?
I used to be known to re-use a drain plug gasket or two on the wife's corolla, but these are crush-washers. By definition, they become deformed when you use them, so it's probably best to get a new one each time. If you re-use one and it leaks, it's kind of too late at that point. JUST my opinion.

Well thank you very much, i try to make it as simple as I can. I hope I saved you some money. Don't forget to like and subscribe.
I was always told the top line on the oil dipstick is the full level for a hot engine. The bottom line is for a cold engine.
But there is no dip stick in this engine.

I like to fill the oil filter about halfway to prevent a dry oil start.
Interesting.. Thanks for your input.
since these oil filters are situated open-end up, I would do something like 80% full.
@@dgunearthed7859 some of that oil gets absorbed into the filtering media. But as long as you don’t get a dry start, you’re good!
Thanks for a great video. I don't trust those lube shops, so I do all my own oil changes. I use synthetic oil, with OEM filters.
Kwel , thanks for your input.
Only thing wrong with using the ramps is that you’re not flat so some oil might stay in the tank
If you change your oil timely and check your dip stick, it's not a big deal.its a very small amount. Thanks for your input.
The level of the oil doesn’t change when u take it off the ramps? I’m assuming u filled the oil while it’s on the ramps
The change is very minimal but remember to periodically check your oil level.
Awesome video! You’re a great teacher! I’m going to change my oil!!💪
thank YOU!

thank you!
Very helpful video, in depth about everything and I love it. Thank you
thanks again.
where is the part that you change the transmission filter too. because I know that the dealer also puts that in to with the price.

It's 5-20 after making almost 300 videos sooner or later your going to hit a foul ball. Thanks.
Thanks, dude.
no problem and thanks for stopping by
@Notsofast - where did you get a repair manual. When I search for one the sites I find seem a bit shady.
Thanks

How do you feel about drain plug washers and should they be replaced with a new one each time the oil is changed?
If it leaks yes. If it doesn't no..
