I played Zero Dawn when it came out on PC and loved it so much I bought a PS5 - my first ever console - just so I could play Forbidden West at release. I am 40ish hours in and have revealed - not cleared, just revealed - a little over half of the the map. Aloy is Level 40 and my current main quest is Level 24... The world and character building is just outstanding, even the smallest tasks include some well developed characters. One (of so many) of my favourite moments was in a side quest in "Las Vegas" that starts off as a simple fetch quest and then turns into a delightful journey of discovery. You know developers care about their game when a simple side story has better writing, plot, pacing, voice acting and animations/cinematics than many main games or even A list Hollywood movies. Side quests rewarding skill points and not just XP is a great incentive for those who might otherwise ignore them
yeah this game is actually insanely good, one of the few open world games where it doesnt feel like a ubisoft location clearing game, but really being a hunter in an open world, finding and fighting specific monsters to get the right parts to upgrade weapons or armor
I feel like a lot of the side quest it's almost an insult to call them that since they all have like there own mini story in them vs like you said ubisoft style games were its bland npc #50 go here grab this do that alright bye lol
This game is a testament that there are still devs pushing new ground and setting new standards for greatness. I'm so happy it exists and this is possibly one of my favorite franchises of all time now.
The visuals were phenomenal and beyond stunning at some points, I loved the voice acting/expressions from like 99% of characters and NPCs, and the music had elements of electronic and vocals that really fit the man and machine motif. Incredible. What's more I'm shocked at how well they did character development. If you took the time to really get to know the characters they had real depth. I had minor issues with the overall story but this is a solid 9/10 for me.
I wonder how they did the conversation dialogue, was it all completely animated or did they use stock animations then tweaked it? As if it is the latter it is the best system I've seen.
I thought for sure they were going to go the route where because the Zenith had Apollo, they ended up ruining the planet again. Meaning it would have meant Ted's decision to delete Apollo on Earth actually had positive outcomes.
I'm only 11% into FW and spent 20hrs so far exploring and doing mostly side quests. To me it feels kind of like an RPG/adventure/action mash up. So many options with skills, a stash system, outfits/weapons upgrades and even dye your outfits. And I'm certain there is other stuff to do I haven't discovered yet.
They nailed good story and good gameplay. Improved everything on HZD, which a wild thought. Not sure, but the story is so well done it feels like they wrote the entire story before developing the game and then broke up the story into games to fit. The narrative was just that’s smooth and in-depth. As for the gameplay I love the expanded weapons and skill trees so you can really have different builds to suit your play style. The only thing I’d like to see as a next gen is innovation on spray painted ledges and difficulty settings. This is not a HFW knock, just something I’d like to see changed in this generation. The ledge system has been a game staple, but it just sticks out more than usual because of Aloy’s physical talent. Id like to see them find a way to make it less jarring at least. I think building on the focus cliff climbing mechanic into everything would be cool. For difficulty I’d like to see games move away from the you do less damage enemies do more damage and have more health. Find ways to add combat mechanics that change with difficulty.
cant wait for PC release ... relativly soon officially ... i played first one on PC and it surprised me how fun that game was and cant wait to play this one and before that i will replay first one but this time will do 100% achievement run

My biggest problem with the game is how a bunch of exploration mechanics are locked behind the main story. I just want to explore the world at my own pace, but no, everything is locked and needs backtracking forcing me to rush the main story first.
True, but campfire fast travel is free so back-tracking is not so much of a pain for me atleast. But i do agree, not being able to explore submerged ruins from start felt bad to me as well.
@@nayanagrawal4757 not adding the unlimited fasttravel pack was a mistake in my opinion. I know you can travel for free from any fire to the next, but I still think the old system was better. Its always hard to make a judgement there.
@@_aullik Yea true, I was also disappointed in the first game that you have to explore 50%+ of the map before you can get that pack. So, it felt like fast travelling to all campfires from the get go was a little better but if they gave a unlimited pack as well, it would have been best of both worlds.
The only two gripes I have with this game is that the climbing system feels very janky and inaccurate at times, and the story had some very predictable moments and dialogues I could see coming from miles away. Otherwise an amazing game.
What about the Yakuza series their animations were quite good as well. Your play thru of the first game made me a fan I own all of them and waiting for the next installment. Keep up the wonderful work 🤗

@@gamingeagle19 PC gamers routinely wait years for ports, this is nothing. But we aren’t starved for ‘bangers’, sorry to say. Theres more good stuff just on Steam right now than one could play in a lifetime, and more come out almost every week.
Good plan; same here. I'm also waiting for the PC version. I'm running on a 1080 so by the time the pc version comes out, I'll have a new rig already. In the mean time, I'm playing other games. Even if Sony doesn't release the PC version, I know the story and that's good enough for me. I play games mainly for the story anyway. I don't feel I miss out anything from not playing it.
Going to disagree with Cohh here, here's some things Zero Dawn did better then Forbidden West . Zero Dawn had better focus mechanics, specifically not needing to ping all the time Zero Dawn had a better stealth indicator, moreover stealth in Forbidden west feels meaningless. Zero Dawn had a better skill system for it was more streamlined and impactful whereas a lot of skills in the Forbidden west just seem like filler. Zero Dawn at least gave you more time to figure out a puzzle before hand holding you to the solution even with guided exploration turned off, feels like audio hints come after a few seconds. In fact with hints/guided exploration turned off there should have be zero help to begin with. Zero dawn had less farming and didn't force you to unlock over rides by gathering materials.
I felt that both games just arent that great I got bored of the first game because combat got really repetitive and tedious also kinda jank plus the constant stopping to pick up items every five secs got old really fast, the story wasnt that great plus all the animations of the characters felt very robotic which is ironic, and the world was not really interesting to explore. I was hoping that the second game would fix those problems but from all the playthroughs ive seen it just looks like more of the same which is disappointing really dont understand why find these games so amazing when they are so boring to play through. Better open world games I played were spiderman and ghost of tsushima now those were actual fun open world games
The skill tree in the first game is complete ass. I used maybe like less than half the skills because they're so situational. I stopped bothering to spend points past level 20 because I had nothing left to spend them on that was actually useful. This one isn't amazing but it's still an improvement. Also, you don't need to ping all the time. Pinging is only for climbing and you can set it so that the handholds are always highlighted.
You can skip dialouges and cutscenes (Im not too sure if you can skip all cutscenes, especially main story ones because I never even tried to do that but the cutscenes for the side content can be skipped)
"I think it's going to be a while till we see a game reach the quailties of horizon forbidden west." Oh yeah, such a long while....except not, oh hello Elden Ring.
As much as i loooove elden ring, quality wise, elden ring is pretty lazy, graphics are weak, not much is happening in the terrain of the open world, npcs are not even moving, voice acting is great but they cant even animate their mouths
I found the story hard to swallow after the Zero Dawn. You could argue that the machines were made to simulate creatures you'd find on Earth but when you bring in Zenith machines that function as guard bots? No damn way they get taken down with arrows and spears. ESPECIALLY when they were also used against Nemesis even without shields. It is incredibly stupid to engineer a machine for what amounts to military hardware with such glaring weaknesses. I mean, have you seen how our modern day tanks perform? We got squishy humans inside to operate it. Now imagine a tank without the need for squishy humans with Zenith technology. Im sorry, I know this is a game but if you are aiming for realism, try harder.
I kind of disagree respectfully. It looks great and they definitely improved on side quests… but it still falls into the open world trap of ‘here’s a checklist of jobs you gotta do’, which is a bit outdate imo and tbh it got boring fast
