Now this is the kind of beat making video I love. There's a TON of "okay I got this sample, let's make a beat" videos out there but very few that show the process of hunting for samples, what to listen for and how what was heard can be flipped. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.
I swear if this channel does not blow up I don't understand the beatmaking community anymore. It really doesn't get any better than this. Good advise paired with dreamy, bouncy, groovy beats and a very relaxing dude that obviously has a big heart for sampling, beat making and music in general. I looked for J Dilla style tutorials and tips on youtube and there isn't any channel that comes this close to the kind of sound and advise that I was looking for. Thank you Marlow!
Roberta & Donny are just great! Have some of their albums in my collection. Donny's daughter is a great vocalist ( Lalah Hathaway). She's done some great stuff with Snarky Puppy.
About a minute or so into the first track on the actual return to forever album there’s a KILLER drum break. About a minute after that, there’s a nasty bassline. You’re welcome.
Learning so much from just watching your process and thoughts in chop selection. Thank you for sharing your time earned knowledge, Brother. Gratitude from Cornwall, UK.
Mr Digs - your work is 🔥 as usual. Really appreciate the perspective you share. I spend so much time looking for chops and sometimes wasting time or doubting myself, but your vocalization of this process is relatable and reassuring. Blessings upon you sir ✌️🤘
Marco, it doesn't matter what you do, I always find something to enhance my MPC skills. Thanks for basically teaching me everything I know since Dec 2019. May you be eternally fortunate in this world. You are a gift to music and creation. Peace
I discovered now your chanel and is completely amazing. Do you have any video talking about drum patterns ?? Is really interesting to see when the sample fits with your drum beat that is very well done...dope 💣 Thank you.
Love your videos, man. A great source of inspiration. Been thinking about the Mpc One lately (i want to buy it this year) and watched a lot of beatmaking videos that made me switch up the sampling technique. In a good way, obviously. So yea, keep up the good work! peace!
@@mpchead i just tried your method of having the drums looped in the background and man thats game changing for me. it makes it a lot easier to hear the little pieces that might sound good without just looking for full loops! You’re the 🐐 bro! Oh and Roberta Flack got 🔥, i just went through First Take and still have 2 of her other records to go through.
Great video man. Back in the day i used to buy 3 or 5 records and make beats. Now i buy 50 records and i study each song of the records. Whith this method you can find kicks snare hi hat voice and loop fx etc.. Some times when you listen to fast the records you loose very dope samples.
Anyone else get aftermath, focus, Dre, Khalil type vibes from the record at 1:10?? Also, Marlow... my man, how are you routing your audio to sound so clean? I been just picking up sound from the speakers...
Dig your channel man. I’ve been sampling from my vinyl collection in my DAW for a while and got an MPC One recently after watching your videos. Really enjoying it and the workflow. I’ve got thousands of vinyl so it’s cool to just grab a few records and make a jam. Faster and way more fun than doing it on the computer.
Question about your workflow: When you make your awesome boombap bangers, do you work in 1; short 8-ish bar loops and just mute parts on the fly, 2; multiple sequences that you switch between and mute on the fly or 3; lay everything down on a long full length timeline? Trying to figure out what the best way to get stuff done on my ONE is. I use whole timeline and copy/paste bits and pieces in there as I am used to working in Reason. Got the MPC for xmas so haven't had much time to figure out the "smartest" way to work with it. New to Akai. Been fiddling around with Electribe 2S and Yamaha RS7000 before as well as roland AIRA gear so I have dipped my toes in the "loop and mute segments" workflow but the MPC is a full fledged DAW-in-a-box in comparison and makes it a breeze to work full timelines with the big touch screen. Also; clip launcher, you use it?
What is your setup like? It seems so seamless. I find myself taking 10 times more steps than you do with “record- DAW”. I’d like to hook up my record player like that if you’d share.
My turntable has line out, I connect it straight to the mpc and just sample in slice mode. I don't do it like that all the time but I did in this video.

Thanks man, I'll try to do more of these.
Definitely, came here to say that. 99% of people already have their samples found and chopped, then name the video "How to make a beat in 5 mins".
@@mpchead yes more of these vids plz!
@@mpchead Pls do!!
What HE listens for
Having a drum loop to "test out" the sample is genious! Definitely stealing that!

Something for MF DOOM (RIP) at 01:07.
I really like advice of having a beat played in the background when selecting samples, great vid as always
i think i am actually addicted to your sound and video making style . i love your beats, thanks for the inspiration and great content
Thanks for the words 🙏🏼 see you on the next vid
@@mpchead its a date then 😂
that chick corea album sounds like something madlib would use. great vid as always
Have that Lady in Satin and its just a gem! Please keep these videos coming of how you find samples
You should make more of these vids man they're the kind of content i think a lot of us love but they aren't very common.
For sure, more in the future.
wow the final track you created is dope ! dramatic and deep
Thanks 🙏🏼
i love how ambient you get your mixes, never fully understood how this is done.

I love watching how your mind works when hearing chops in songs. A true beat head. Very inspirational. Keep the content coming. I'm a fan. Respect.
I’m glad someone experienced checks if the sample works with the drumloop, I found that on my own, but I’m glad to see that more people do it

That beat at the end came in way harder than I expected. 🔥🔥🔥 Great stuff!

Excellent stuff. I like the tips and the work flow. Simple, but deadly. Awesome choices to work with. Respect ✌🏽.
Love watching videos about finding samples, and them hearing what people make from them. 👍🏾
I love that beat at the end just downloaded your tracks on my amazon music account to listen to later
This beat at the end...ooff! Nice!
1:11-1:13. That high pitched slightly menacing whooshy/whiney sound at the end of the sample- madlib or rza would kill that.
Especially RZA imo
That shirt got groove !
I always struggle with finding cuts on vinyl , loops from splice , sure , but this video realy ingnited ideas to chop from vinyl 🙏
dude.. 1:12 is sick, you could have a field day with that chop!
I didn't realize at first it was his drums. I was like, chick correra was doing this in the 70s?😂😂
I discovered now your chanel and is completely amazing.

I enjoy watching your videos, great idea to having a prepared drum loop for testing samples
Love watching your videos, you’re chill and it reflects in your beats 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾🔥dope beat at the end 👌🏾
That last beat sounded a bit like triphop, so dope
I love this type of content
Running stereo through the tiegler audio. I have few of their units. Add a cool flavor for sure. Beat is dope as all ways
Heavy madlib vibes on that beat at the end.

Yes I didn't make it justice, I need to redeem myself and make a video sampling this record
Thanks!

Could you do a tutorial on how to chop the sample?
Excellent video!
Bro i LOVE this video. The kick sample ( or is it bass) is so deep, where is that from?
Cool!!
Very nice I just learned to sample today. I’m a beginner starting endpoints. How do you add to beat to what you just sample?
You hit the pads and record to a track

Sounds like you have some chopping to do.
