Its best to let them come out and off naturally which is to groom them because they are social birds and would be getting groomed from another bird. So it really is beneficial and some very high quality 1 on 1 time. You should watch a video of how to manage pin feathers because this is just a basic video, other videos go far into what to do and what NOT to do which is way more important.
Oh, I love her so much! She absolutely LOVES your preening her. I personally find the topic of feathers quite fascinating. My Senegal is just beginning to molt now! You have such a sweet sweet sun conure. ❤❤❤
I never had to do that my sun conure spray water bottle lightly each day to keep his molting feather soft, so it doesn’t get to dry couples days later it all come out beautiful, he sure enjoy head n neck scratches.
such a cute sunny 🤗🤗😘 I love your sun conure, she must be lucky to be with you. however, I prefer to leave that pin feather to that bird to take care by them self rather than scratching that. or get him to another friendly bird to them to preen each other. and to help them trough that itchy phase I will increase bathing frequency. 😊
Thank you this should help my bird he has had pin feathers for awhile and he takes baths on his own but he needs some help with those pesky pin feathers, thx for being helpful🐦💗
The bird looks like it's being hormonal, it's lifting it's tail in the air and flicking its wings around. Be careful not to pet your bird anywhere but its head and neck (:
Apparently blowing on them can turn them on as well. I didn't know and kept blowing at my bird when she bit herself for her to stop coz calling to her doesn't work. Turns out she doesn't bite hard coz I intercepted her beak quite a few times and it doesn't even hurt, she does it for attention.. 🤦🏻♀️
@@idk-gq3lh I think I have done well with him. He was attack bird when I got him, and I believe he had been "returned" a few times, as he was very good at his aggressive game. He now steps up, goes back in cage, and only bites the unwary. He is very intelligent, ill-tempered, not playful. He fascinates everyone that meets him. He took alot of patience and persistence. Thanks for asking!
Mine likes it but turns around and nips at me when I’m doing it wrong I suppose.. He sure likes to groom my hair which I hate since he at tines groom himself & makes dandruff on my hair:(
How would u recommend me doing this to my bird that doesn’t want to be touched on the head? She seems to want to try but she also attempts to bite. Only had her 2 weeks. I don’t think she’s been helped before she has TONS
Mia Zakky it's taken years for her to have this level of trust. I talked to and gently handled her every day and if she was in a bad mood, I left her alone for that day. I cover her cage with a blanket at night to keep her warm, so it's ok if the pin feathers are there. Birds need daily attention for sure. It also helped that I spoon fed her as a chick.
I would say my bird has a lot of new feathers come in twice a year but there seem to always be at least a handful of pin feathers at any given time. I only rub them if my birdy allows it. Sometimes she doesn't want them touched, so I leave them be.
Aww, just take your time getting close to the cage and around her without touching her at first. There are also techniques of holding a stick in the cage to get her to step up into it and used to being around hands
I have a cockatiel, and right above her beak and above his nasal openings it seems like he has pin feathers. Now they are very short and I'm not sure how to get them off, if that's what they even are (pin feathers)..help??
Nancy Bennett I would just leave them be. The really small ones around the eyes and made a hang out for awhile, but I figure those are spots Thoth can reach as opposed to the nape or top of her head.
@@Leahscotia Ok good just making sure. I’ve heard of people pulling them out and that’s just messed up lol. I give my budgies a bath and lightly rub the feathers. One of my budgies is going through molt right now so she’s getting a lot of massages lol.
this is making me wanna go grab my lovebird out of her cage and pet the living crap out of her buuut it's almost 4 am and i'd rather not wake her or anyone else up
I really just let the bird tell me what they want. Try progressively moving from the head and nape to the checks to see if he likes it & wants them to be groomed :)
You have to build trust very slowly. Do not try to touch him or scare him in any way. If you leave the door open, when he's ready he'll start to come out of the cage to explore. From there, proceed cautiously to avoid setbacks. Google the subject for more help.
I just hope you take your hands off her, when you get the pin feathers off. Her butt up on the air,is a sign of nest ing behavior. When this, materializes, you REALLY need to disengage w your bird.
@@Leahscotia awesome! It can be Soo hard,we as humans want to just cuddle our fur and feather babies but for the feather babies,it means something else...lol. She's such a cutie😍
Ok I PROMISE this is my last comment for the night! Thoth is super cute, he’s certainly lucky to have you, but truly, is there anything that you’re not an expert at? Wait, let me guess, concrete and various industry-specific concrete additives? Nah, you probably got that pegged too. That would be an odd video...
See I have this little basterd of a budgie and he won’t let anyone pren him so I have to pin him down and I have to crush the tube with tweezers then gently rub his head all while he is trying to bite the fuck out of me
There not pin feathers, it actually means your bird is moulting. Which is when new feathers come in. It’s the same as when we have dead skin, that falls off. Just be carful with its wing when it’s moulting, because the feather could break creating a blood feather, and it will bleed to death.
Then you "crush" one a little too hard, they squawk and act like you've offended their ancestors.
*you h a v e*
this omg yes
@2dawgz yeah, cuz they BITE and get angry!
You got that right!
happened a min ago and i panicked and came here to make sure i didnt hurt him lol
I imagine someone getting their pin feathers is like someone giving you a back rub
HawkyPlays more like getting some sloppy joe
As a bird owner, can confirm. Even if you're not doing this and just giving them head scritches they love that shit
The happy eyes😊
They are beautiful.
So that's why my sunny keeps asking for snuggles around the neck and head. I thought those pin feather would just disappear on its own.

Popping pin feathers are SOOO satisfying!
Popping?

I have watched this video several times over
He is obviosly loving that.😊
You have a sweet baby!
That is one very happy bird!
I could watch this ALL day, so relaxing! 💜🐦😊
Awww my sun Conure does that too when they’re ready. He’s like help me mother 🥺
Liking because your birds eyes look like they are really enjoying this. 😄
It’s great for bonding with your beloved fine feathered friend!
D'aww! What a cute birdy.
reddish Thoth says thank you!
Papi says you're welcome :3
That's probably how my face looks when I get a massage.
That’s the cutest mango I’ve ever seen.
ohh poor birdie.. that white thing entered her eye lash and she was blinking constantly
She is loving that soo much ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Adorable bird
What a cute/pretty bird!!!!!!
CenturianEagle thank you much! Thoth appreciates compliments
Why is literally every video about preening pin feathers so short!
Baby loves massages! 🥰🥰🥰
But aren't pin feathers just new feathers growing in after moulting?
Yup, you're absolutely correct! Rubbing them just breaks off the outer waxy coating and reveals the new feather inside
jupp and they cant clean their head by themself and those pin feathers are itchy for them
@@A-Wa Yes I know, I made this comment a little before I got my bird and I just wanted to know everything I needed to know before getting her lol
I’m just rubbing them because I squeezed to hard and she yelled at me 😂
Beautiful 😍

Doesn't hormonal just mean horny? Lol serious question

I was trying to find a video like this to see why my bird loves it and she lifts up her feather and lets me pet under it
My birdie has big pinnies but bites if I pop them. I wrap him in a soft towel and get them. Funny, he CHIRRRS when I do it.

Naturally the shell tube around the feather will go away after the bird baths in the bath. Sun and water and a partner
You dropped one right in her eye. That's why she kept blinking
thankyou helpfull advised
Aww
How could you do this for so long and not wipe off that irritating fleck that fell into her eye? It looked so uncomfortable!

Are you on tik tok with a little bird you called the baby boss ?
Unfortunately not! It must be another adorable conure
So pretty
Maddie S thank you, thank you! Thoth loves compliments
Would bathing help break up pin feathers? I’m sure it wouldn’t fix it completely.
I’m asking cause I’m thinking of getting my own bird!
Yes, it softens the shell around the pin feather, I recommend a spray bottle
just got my first bird, she isnt tamed at all, but she has pin feathers, i dnt want her to be cold or upset, how can i help her?

that's what pin feathers are called lmfao
