Games like this during this era are proof that there is actually a happy medium between the bully ball of the 90's and the Charmin Ultra Soft league we see today. Defenders could close out on the offensive players and not worry about getting a foul call just for breathing on them, and the offensive players had to rely on skill AND effort to create a shot for themselves or their teammates. When spectacular plays become common place, they are no longer spectacular.
It would’ve been the Spurs Twin Towers on steroids because Duncan would had KG in his prime unlike Admiral who only had a few good resurgence seasons with him.
In 2004 they were better on paper. They had Cassell who had 2 rings (and was one of the best clutch players in Houston) and Sprewell who had previously been to the finals, and KG was arguably the best in the league. They also had defensive leader Kendall Gill, young Wally Szczerbiak, some good defensive pieces, and a big oaf useless center Ervin Johnson and later Olowokandi. They also fell victim to the L.A. Refs on some bullshit calls though not to the extent of the Kings.
@@clivewarren3403 kendell gill wasn't on that 04 team and wally was like in his 5th season and was injured most of the year. I wouldn't say better on paper, just better period, kg didn't have to score like that anymore to win games against a team like the spurs. And yea there were some bad calls in that laker series, but they lost cause both their pgs (including cassell) were injured, and were relegated to 3rd string derrick martin to start games, and would have to play hoiberg and KG at backup pg duties, which really messed things up for them. KG was robbed of getting a chance of violating the laker 4s like he did in the year prior because of this
KG would have zero in San Antonio. Just because he put up stats in Minnesota doesn't mean he was the leader or clutch player Duncan was. And he sure as hell wouldn't have fit the San Antonio culture with Robinson and Pop. They're not into that hood trying to act hard attitude. It's one of the reasons they got rid of Stephen Jackson. Duncan would've probably won one ring in Minnesota when he got that 2004 team. Unlike KG, Duncan wasn't afraid of Shaq. Watching KG in that series vs the Lakers was just embarrassing... he always tried to make sure he wasn't anywhere near Shaq when he got it in the post. Duncan never backed down from Shaq and sure, he lost to him a few times, but he also beat him a few.
He would have maybe 1. KG wasn't knocking out the Lakers in 03, wasn't getting passed the Pistons in 05, wasn't beating the Suns in 07 and def wasn't being a top defensive anchor for a championship team that embarrassed Lebron in 2014. Only year he could have won was in 99 with a still all star Dave play next to him. Tim would have found a way to bring rings to Minnie tho.
The disrespect for KG in here is ridiculous. KG had to do EVERYTHING for the Twolves because his teams were trash and still has identical numbers to duncan. Tim was nice, but if they switched teams, idk if we'd crown him as the GOAT
Kenyon Martin's take on Guarding Duncan, and Guarding KG, he said that it was harder to guard Duncan because he played at the same pace and stuck to what he was good at!
@@FearlessXcel yea one had the greatest modern day coach ever in Greg popavic best sixth men of all time manu won the first ring with David Robinson had tony Parker kawhi bruh stop it kg was stupid for spending most of his career in MINI that's on him but he was the better player

@@kristianalvarez651 Stop it. KG will always be known as the PF who bitched out and went East. Other PF at the time were sent to where careers go to die, and they made something out of it. Always a must watch when these two played against each other
"Apologies to the Sacramento Kings, who have the best record"
As a Kings fan, I miss lines like this…
Got to love these classic big man battles.
They were both unbelievable.
Timmy back when he had to battle through double and triple teams! Heart of a champ!
You had to double Garnett too. I even seen Garnett score his fade away on 3 defenders.

less freedom of movement too. In today's game guys are allowed to go anywhere on the court without any resistance/contact
Great upload!Search this for long time!
Imagine those two had been on the same team together??!! Spurs would had been unstoppable. Gregg Popovich would had been the perfect coach for Garnett
Garnett would be a 3 or 4 while Duncan is a 4 or 5.

Tim Duncan looks slow but he wasn’t
big ticket vs big fundamentals
If only Kevin Garnett had a great teammate like Tracy Mcgrady or Kobe Bryant they would have been a Champion multiple times.
He had sprewell and cassell , who were great , spree alone played elite defense and closed the games because KG was known to disappear in the clutch
