Those commercials USED to be limited to long "infomercials" on weird channels that nobody usually watched. Now the pharmaceutical industry is trying to shove a lot of that junk into "regular" ads, on frequently watched shows/channels...like weight-loss ads that explicitly show the excessive body fat on certain test subjects (as a "before" pic). We usually have the TV on at dinner time (and eat in the living room watching it), and I'm like, I'm trying to EAT here, and you're showing me THIS?!?

The Jordache commercial worked in the late 70s because it was a more innocent time. Child molesters were not talked about back then, so the topic was not on most people's minds. Meanwhile, tight-fitting designer jeans were very much in vogue: Jordache, Sasson, & Gloria Vanderbilt, the label for each worn on the back pocket. Like adult clothing today, whatever was in style was also marketed to children. Hence the kids dressing like their teacher. Guess you had to be there to get it.

Remember 15 y/o Brooke Shields sprawling on the floor in a partially unbuttoned shirt and skin tight (Calvin Klein) jeans? Her line: "Nothing gets between me & my Calvins..." That would not make it onto tv today!
