It’s gruesome but that was how you got ANYTHING done long term back then. The idea was to breed as many children as possible and hand out land as evenly as you could to them as you conquered more land to distribute. One king and queen and their court were not enough to govern an empire. You needed strong and LOYAL above all else vassals and dukes, and your children were simply the best mould for that. Play crusader kings 3 for more than a few hours and you’ll understand. Or look it up lol. It sucks but they simply couldn’t find anything more efficient. It’s also why concubines and arranged marriages were so common. It’s was ALL about breeding as large a lineage as possible to spread influence and power.
Basically she was the king’s brood mare; like wives of kings in aristocracies around the world. Every monarch’ wife is expected to produce an heir and a spare. Charlotte’s descendants are still maintaining this tradition.
I first saw her in The White Princess as Margeret Beaufort and hated her so much (because of her good acting skills, the character was a pain in the ass) and she is acting a similar character here I can't unsee the Margeret help lol

She didn’t wasn’t black herself but did have a black ancestor albeit roughly 300 years before her. She probably had a middling complexion as the portraits wouldn’t be entirely accurate as the subjects were painted much paler than they actually were due to beauty standards even George III was known to have reddish and ruddy skin but was painted pale as well.
I think what a lot of people are forgetting when the babies thing comes up is that in this era most babies wouldnt even make it to being a child let alone a teen. So yes, lots of babies was kind of needed as an insurance
Wait, wait wait... Excuse me but. Is black woman aristocrat but not an courtier or lady-in-waiting? In 19th century? And will she marry a KING? 👀👀👀 wtf... How did she get among the aristocrats, even though the black people was only released in the 20th century? I didn't learn history to see black woman (no hate, just very-very not historical) in historical series...
This is about the life of queen charlotte it is theorised that she was either black or mixed race, she could’ve been white but there is more evidence she was just a light skinned black or mixed girl.
That thumb licking scene kills me!!! Imagine, that happens to you and you CAN'T GO OFF!!!! You have to stay clam and say RESPECTFULLY, " My Lady, It is not paint, nor is it makeup or dirt, it is my skin".
She wasn’t and at the most generous some can argue mixed since she did have black ancestors but they were roughly 300 years before her so it is unknown how much of their traits she actually inherited. Although, I will say that she probably wasn’t perfectly pale as painted as the Georgian era was known to paint their subjects a lot more pale than they actually were due to beauty standards. Even King George III, who was still a Caucasian had very ruddy and red skin as written during his lifetime, but the paintings clearly painted him more pale than he actually was. Although, I heavily doubt Charlotte looked like as portrayed in this series, she probably didn’t have a super pale skin tone either. Nevertheless, this series never claims and in fact made a warning at the start of the series that the series isn’t meant to be historically accurate but only historically inspired so I give it some slack for that. Sorry for the long answer, I just hope it cleared up some confusion.😅
@@Hdk851 ??? Not all Germans are white, and how do you know if she was fully German or a fully white German. I know plenty of non white Germans. Are all Italians white as well?
I don't understand why people are so sad that her skin colour isn't historically accurate. It isn't meant to be historically accurate in the first place. For me Bridgeton is playing in an hole different world that might share some similarities to historical events but also has totally different aspects to it. They never promised it to be historically accurate or a documentary. It's more like a fanfiction of history or as the creator said it's " fiction inspired by fact" .
Plus I've honestly thought about it, in real life the British and US both are very clever at covering things up. So how are they so sure this never or could've never happened. They changed Anne Boleyns paintings they could've changed skin color and features in paintings, writings, stories, etc. With all this I'm trying to say I think it's insanely possible this could've happened but we'll never know
Primarily because if a white woman played the role of a real historical black person, whose family tree back 15 generations was know, the whole POC community would wage war for it.
People be getting mad that she’s black but it’s actually more accurate than u think. Let me explain. So, the real Charlotte was white, but was European, and by the royal families standards she wasn’t white enough, so they made her wear whitening powder and painted her portraits as lighter. But, because this show was filmed in the 21st century, we would not understand this as this isn’t a problem in our society today. So they cast a black actress so that the racism and problem is exaggerated in order to make it easier for viewers to understand and grasp. Does that make sense?? So not entirely factually incorrect. Just dumbed down for us as a society
Lies don't teach anything but distort the truth with false twistings of history, with the pretext to teach the 'inferior' minds of populace. It's just pure endoctrination.
But true or not. I don't think it doesn't even matter. Its a fictional Show which got inspired from historische. People make a Drama about everything. I think it would be much worde if it indeed was a real movie about the Real queen. But making a fuss 9ver this is just stupid
There is lots and lots of evidence to prove that she was black, and then actually history white washed her momentarily, and are just now admitting that she was black again, but go ahead and die on that hill, that you with one with the lack of education…
Ok a lot of the comments are kinda mixing this up. Her family was known to have Moorish ancestry. The Moors were a North African culture that at one point had control of Spain, and originate from a few areas, including modern day Morocco. There were people from there who had both dark and light skin tones, but the fact alone that it is historically recorded that Charlotte has “Moorish blood” heavily implies that in real life, people noticed that she didn’t look entirely European. If she did, there wouldn’t be any record of her looking anything other than German. And the fact that the British Royal Family would want to historically erase this heritage MAKES SENSE if you know even a thing about them. They even try to hide their own German heritage, and Charlotte was hardly the first or only German in their family line. It is a simple fact that the British nobility have been trying to appear more pale for centuries, and even generations before Charlotte. It’s entirely likely that Elizabeth the First died due to complications from lead poisoning from the heavy lead-based makeup she applied to make her look more pale. The concept that British historians and artists would try to make her seem more “European” is not at all surprising.
So you don’t like fiction. Because that’s what you are saying. If it the character didn’t exist, you don’t watch it. There is no book that has ever been written that does not draw on history or the human experience in some way. Even fantasy worlds pretend to harken back to a fake versions of medieval Europe. Maybe just calm down and enjoy things for what they are: Fiction.

Imagine having a Brimsley. It would be nice having someone constant as you grow old.
This series was so amazing, I loved everyone so much, they were wonderful actors
I love how close she became with Brimsley. Started as an annoyance to become a true friend
Basically she was the king’s brood mare; like wives of kings in aristocracies around the world. Every monarch’ wife is expected to produce an heir and a spare. Charlotte’s descendants are still maintaining this tradition.
Can not unsee her from game of thrones
I first saw her in The White Princess as Margeret Beaufort and hated her so much (because of her good acting skills, the character was a pain in the ass) and she is acting a similar character here I can't unsee the Margeret help lol
You missed the scene where they show the transition, the young Brimsley following the young Charlotte and then the scene changes to the old Brimsley following the old Charlotte.

I have bipolar and this show has made me cry like no other..
The real George III suffered from Porphyria.
@livingincaptivityIII Most modern thinking tends away from that hypothesis and more towards bipolar. Of course, without the patient present, it's impossible to get a positive diagnosis.

“As many babies as possible” I didn’t only get second hand embarrassment but also creeped out she should choose how many babies she wants to birth not the mother
I wouldn’t want that woman as a mother-in-law! The one I had was bad enough.
I was fortunate to have mother in laws that lived too far away from where we did so that I didn't have to deal with any of them. First one lived in Central America, second one was deceased at the time I married her son & the third (who is now also deceased) lived in another state about a thousand miles away. I'm sure that I was able to keep my sanity bc of this fact.
I see some people say they are terrified about the “make as much babies” thing

How exactly were the hips seen through these layers of puffy clothing?😅
Back when they didn’t know that the woman’s pelvis has a piece of cartilage that allows the pelvis and birth canal to expand throughout the ore.
Women with larger hips are scientifically proven to have an easier time giving birth to normal sized babies. We have safe c-sections now but back then, narrow hips had a higher fatality rate.
1. There is a good amount of truth to large hips with child birth rates.
2. It's also a superstition thing as well. Kinda like big breast produce more milk

She didn’t wasn’t black herself but did have a black ancestor albeit roughly 300 years before her. This is about the life of queen charlotte it is theorised that she was either black or mixed race, she could’ve been white but there is more evidence she was just a light skinned black or mixed girl.
It's because people like to bullshit and are leftists these days. She was white since she's German
@@Hdk851 This show is not where near bullsh*t when you realize it WASNT made for the historical accuracy.
That thumb licking scene kills me!!! Imagine, that happens to you and you CAN'T GO OFF!!!! You have to stay clam and say RESPECTFULLY, " My Lady, It is not paint, nor is it makeup or dirt, it is my skin".
Charlotte was not black.....was she?
She wasn't, she was white. But Jewllywood hates white people.

I don't even watch bridgerton and even I knew that it was more fantasy with a sprinkle of facts
Plus I've honestly thought about it, in real life the British and US both are very clever at covering things up. So how are they so sure this never or could've never happened. They changed Anne Boleyns paintings they could've changed skin color and features in paintings, writings, stories, etc. With all this I'm trying to say I think it's insanely possible this could've happened but we'll never know
@@cheyennejane6395She wasn't of African descent. Her parents weren't of African either so change her "skin color" to "satisfy" is a mockery.
Why couldn't it be an actual African princess though? Why take it from the European royals? That's just cutting everyone short of their individuality.
It's just pure endoctrination.
that's actually kinda baller if true, thanks Internet guy
But more or less everyone at court (or more likely courts) had white powder on their face, even the already very white ones.

It’s an alternate history fantasy show.
She was mulatto. The court physician even called her that in his notes. Her portraits were all intentionally painted with her skin lighter
I don't watch shows that try to change history with people that weren't there.
They aren't. Read my first comment 💀‼️
So you don’t like fiction. Because that’s what you are saying. If it the character didn’t exist, you don’t watch it.
