I'll drop a few of the records I've been spinning recently!
Diamond Construct - Angel Killer Zero:
Think Emmure mixed with Alpha Wolf mixed with a glitchy computer and you have Diamond Construct. The production on this record is marvelous, and every song on it stands out, even after a dozen listens. Definitely AOTY for me at the moment.
    Kobaryo - HiTNEX ViRTUAL SHiFTERZ:
Kobaryo typically falls more into the speedcore EDM genre of music (which I absolutely adore), however, this recently released record blends some of that with a lot, and I mean A LOT of metalcore elements, as well as other EDM styles sprinkled in there. At only seven tracks, it's short and sweet, and definitely EP of the year at the moment.
    The Acacia Strain - 3750:
Don't have much to say other than: ... THIS. IS. TRUE. CRIME. Such an influential deathcore record from 2004!
Now for a couple of discographies in general
Scar Symmetry - Such a great melodic death metal band, very underrated
    Celldweller - This artist's Self-Titled record is amazing. Electronic + 2000s nu-metal = Perfection.

The new Dodsrit absolutely slaps, also been really digging the new Hulder 'Verses in Oath' and The Infernal Sea 'Hellfenlic' in terms of black metal. The Castle Rat debut is also pretty killer, Hekseblad's 'Kaer Morhen' is also high on the list of albums I'm gonna check out.
Besides that been on a bit of a jazz kick going back through some Miles Davis and John Coltrane albums I own, also some real solid dungeon synth come out this year so far, Atlantean Sword's 'All is Dust', Iskonge's 'Sounds of Winter', Ulk's 'The Carrier's Blessing' and Dokutsu's 'The Cavern Beneath the Cliff'

Yeeeeeaaaaah, I agree with you on that one. It’s pretty comatose in my opinion. It’s had a pretty mixed reception from a lot of people and blogs so far. I am pretty happy that Tempest enjoyed it more than I did!

you need to check out Daath's new record. It's a breath of fresh air in the modern death metal scene, taking a lot of influence from prog and melodeath to craft my most awaited and so far most favourite album of this year. It's called The Deceivers, and it is an absolute masterpiece. (Will definitely be checking out the Fractal Gates album, since I'm a HUGE sucker for Orbit Culture)

No Deicide? Easily the best album this year!

My top 5 albums this year are:
Sympathy Pain - "Swan Dive" (ambient post-rock)
Boundaries - "Death Is Little More" (metallic hardcore with various influences such as screamo, progressive metal, and post-hardcore)
Caligula's Horse - "Charcoal Grace" (progressive metal/post-metal with classic rock influence)
Grayscale Season - "Feel Something New" (melodic metalcore/djent, sounds so damn beautiful but also heavy, very refreshing for the djent genre, also has influence in neoclassical as the last track is purely neoclassical with some ambience, with ambience throuht some other songs in the album)
ABYSSIUS - "Abyssius" (atmospheric/melodic/progressive death metal)
There are many great albums I've listened to this year. In total a little over 110 but these are my absolute favourites from the ones I've listened to. Also honourable mention for "Bury Me Here" by Fugit (atmospheric/neoclassical black metal)

If there's an album that definitely deserves more discussion it would have to be Replicant - Infinite Mortality, dissonant death metal genre. It's horrific, torturous, and violent in the best way possible. You can make out every instrument that is played and gawd those riffs are mighty thick, hands down a huge successor to Gorguts especially with the vocals here in Infinite Mortality.

That Dödsrit (I think it’s pronounced DOADS-rit) album is probably my favourite black metal album of this year so far! The dual guitar melodies are so great and I love that M. from Lamp of Murmuur made a guest guitar solo appearance on the second track, too. I am currently going through the discographies of Rotting Christ and the Icelandic pagan/atmospheric black metal band Arstidir Lifsins in preparation for both of their new records coming out at the end of this month
