As a kid who grew up in Lake Havasu listening to Pedro the Lion, I can honestly say I never expected to have an album by Pedro the Lion about my hometown.
I've been listening to you for over two decades. Never once disappointed. Going through rough times right now and didnt even realize this album was coming out but it's the first smile on my face in a while. saving up for the vinyl already. You are my favorite storyteller.
1998, i went to visit a friend of mine that was working in my fav recordshop here in rome,italy... he knew my musical taste and he said " listen to this"..it was "it's hard to find a friend"... 2022 i m still a fan, still having chills. thank david!
Took a trip with my wife a few years back. Driving from the grand canyon to San Diego and accidentally took AZ 95 south instead of the next exit CA 95. Drove through Havasu and south along the river around sunset. Nice to be able to connect the scenery to David's narrative. I share many of the same feelings from childhood. Hard to convey things the way he does, but he pulls it off and I'm thankful for it.
what a fantastic album. the amount of bands that can make such a great work this far into their career is a very short list. an even shorter list is a band that gets better with every release, and i think pedro/ bazan is that band. he became a better writer with time, while many bands have one or two good early ones and then fall off. im in my earlymidlate 30s now, but i still look forward to every release, ever since control came out. god damn what a good band
Update: it's great, as always. Thanks Dave. The heartbeat drum buildup in First Drum Set got me so good, and the re-use of lyrics from Almost There in Making The Most Of It was really great. All love to everyone landing on this album upload, learning to understand and love yourself is a continuous practice and albums like these are invaluable tools in the process.
This is amazing! I'm always late. Idk that it's a fashion. I'm really happy I get to hear this music 🙏🏻 Aaand it makes so much sense that many's response is simply: Thank you!
Lake Havasu is a shallow reservoir the temperature of bathwater in a scorching desert... A bleak, brutal tourist trap. Living there must feel totally cursed. In other words, like most American towns.
Is this album the first in the series or the second album in the series? The description says it is the first but I don't understand that since I thought that was Phoenix.
"Bazan collected his earliest childhood experiences for 2019’s Phoenix, the prolific artist’s celebrated return to the Pedro moniker and the first in a planned series of five records chronicling his past homes. To write its sequel, Bazan traveled to Havasu four times over several years, driving past his junior high campus, a magical skating rink, and other nostalgic locations that evoked feelings long suppressed." "Phoenix" is the album being referred to as being the first in the series, with "Havasu" as its sequel. Three more in the future, if the plan holds!

Stranger = my entire childhood. Bless you again, Dave.
Old wisdom for me. But relate a ton to stranger as well. Honestly all wrapped up in one.

I'm gonna have a long and peaceful walk later in the evening to enjoy the best songwriting of this era

Good heavens this is a good album.
Off the beaten path. I like it!
This is, in my own opinion, the most depressing Pedro The Lion album.
Making the Most of It -> Old Wisdom
What a stretch of songs
Most excited morning for a few years. How are we ever going to see you live in the UK?? 😞
Ooh, yeah! I've been listening since Achilles Heel, and this sounds SO GOOD!!! 💖💖💖

How did I not know this was coming?!
Very reminiscent of the great Scottish band 'The Blue Nile' in places.
I’ve been noticing their influence slowly creep in to modern bands I love. So here for it.

What is this a play? You guys are so lucky clarinet rhymes with drum set. I’m a huge fan but there is honestly something too cloying about this for me
