a lot of people hate the police. but they should respect them. I mean after all on 9/11 they were some of the best rescuers. if they were not there on 9/11 half the people would not of been carried or helped out of harms way.
Yes and Coast to Coast agencies nationwide practice these type of drills to ensure they are ready to respond quickly and fast for what ever the call might be. The same goes with EMS, First responders and life support they all trained the quicker they get to the scene and help people the better.

It's basically part of a counter terrorism act that gets tweaked from time to time, but they act like this according to conditions and the amount of intelligence the police get.
The crown vics were introduced to the NYPD in believe in '97 and then the impalas in the year 2000 and '06 the Chargers but i notice alot of the cvpi's are seen more often in the outer boroughs since more space, and leave more compact cars like the impalas in Manhattan cause of traffic density most of the time.
@myrulzzzz Yeh, I see where you were going. Maybe shut up wasn't the best choice. Sorry about that. But (not to be unkind) I do think I would have helped to let people know in the comment that it was a joke especially since so many people crack jokes at the nyfds & nypds & mean for them to be harmful.
@wlittle it's a drill where they surge through NY's streets searching for the closest doughnut shop. The last one there doesn't get any food. jk :D it's just a practice drill for the cops to sharpen up on their driving skills through traffic i think O_o
Dispatch: All units in the area of (Unknown area) respond Code 2 Cop: Unit 60 and 42 on route, what is the call about? Dispatch: We're getting word of a new donut shop opening in the area Every officer on duty: Oh shit.. Dispatch I will be attending that Code 2.. Dispatch talking to Donut Shop owner: Sir we're going to have every officer on the force on route to your shop.
I think the wheels they use are called AMERICAN 767 GLOSSY BLACK from AmericanRacing. Those are steel painted that's why they aren't expensive. I think that they are also used in the NASCAR Series. and btw: How do you excpect that 26'' rims are used in street racing?? have you ever seen donks racing?
@DoctorLoveJuice that was not all of NY's police there are more...if that was all of a citys police then they have a probllom cuz my lil town has like a million....but theres more there....and its a goodthing they did this cuz their practicing for or if there will ever b another 9-11 so ya
@ camargo2012: I think you didn't understand what I was saying to levazoid's quetion 1. I said those americanwheels rims are cheap but good quality. I have the same on my tahoe and they didn't cost more than 100$ each! 2. concerning the 26 inch rims I was kidding. 3. think before you talk.
@livingforJC hello it's called the criminal will probably escape because NYPD cops are to slow to put there foot on there pedals and plus they will probably be stuffed with coffee. The criminal gets a hostage.
@ hey levazoid: I'm not american too but those rims (called americanwheels) are pretty cheap and good quality. I'm pretty much sure you understand, that they don't have the money to put 26inches rims on each of their car.
@EMT2272 Surge........drill Aparently its to see how many cars they can get from one side of town to another side of town in the least amount of time...........say in a terrorist attack.
@Missyme2704 Its difference, sometimes is to show criminals and maybe terrorists how many they are and they are ready for fight. They began making those after 9/11.
In my country Police has got not only patrol cars but also vans and buses. 8-9 person vans may solve the problem with transporting lots of officers to the direction. Period.
Donut-jokes aside, does this actually serve any purpose? I mean, I can tell that the taxpayers can see what their funds are spend on, and I can tell that officers with finger-spasms get to play with the emergency sirens in short moments, but... Does this actually fulfill any goals, apart from teaching officers to drive very slowly, due to intense police traffic? Is there a point in this? :)
@Bren29 dont see this as a waste of money because the strongest you become, the more you want to show how strong you are, and since we are speaking of one of the biggest police forces in the world, i think its a necessary effort to show both the NY population and foreigners how well equipped, organized and capable they are, which only make them more respected among people. dont you think its better to have a huge police force showing off in their nice cars, than not having police force at all?
Oh ...look ..a Police car, there is another one, and there another, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there, and there...shit... i lost the count
@walcris50158 As someone who lives in NY, I can tell you, it seems as if they do more harm than good. They run red lights, push people out of the way with their lights and sirens just so they don't have to sit in traffic, only to turn them off when they get through, park in handicap spots, drive in the bus lanes, double park while talking to other cops, etc. In case there's ever a real emergency, they have the U.S. Military there. I would rather have them there instead of the NYPD.
@ibunkerpeople Police presence MAY deter common crimes or criminals, but terrorist are not common criminals. And they don't commit common crimes. This video is like having a guard carrying mace, patrolling fort Knox and its thousands of pounds of gold bars. The police are not primarily trained or designed to prevent terrorism. That's the job for the FBI and other federal authorities. NYPD could serve their time better to the public doing other things than having this parade.
@ibunkerpeople My point is police driving around like a parade isn't going to deter a terrorist attack. Terrorist, aren't scared of dying or going to prison. Its not going to DETER their action. The only way you can stop them is by killing them, or capturing. Driving around with your sirens on is not going to DETER anything. Its a waste of police time and resources. Being highly visible to the public only gives the public a false sense of security.
@pvd021 you're right they react to events but they also DETER crime! If you know a cop is running radar on a specific road you know to slow down; the police are a DETERRENT, as well as a reactionary force. Wow you have friends that are cops, so do I, half of my family are cops as well I don't know what point you were trying to prove there. The whole point of patrolling is to be visible/assist the public, to DETER crime and maintain order. They both go hand in hand.
@pvd021 police presence is a deterrent for criminals genius. the purpose of a surge is to see how fast the city can get 200-300 police officers to a specific location in the event something major happened. the only thing this does to you is prevents you from crossing the street for a few minutes, yet ironically you would be the one complaining that the these public servants took so long to save your ass if you were in trouble. one car from every precinct your hardly wasting your money.
I work on Water St. in lower Manhattan and they have surge drills 2-3 times a week. Surge drills have become the biggest waste of police resources. They involve, at minimum, 20 cruisers and each cruiser has 2 cops in them. Instead of driving around Manhattan, these officers should be doing foot patrols (which by the way is the biggest crime deterrent). I understand them doing it like once a week, but more than that is ridiculous.
Surge drills are meaningless, mainly because of two reasons: 1. What´s the point of timing response time, when you gather up the squad cars before the drill? In a real event, this would not happen. 2. Terrorists are not going to stop their plans because they once an then see a caravan of police cars riding down the street. Part from the above, the drills also make people don´t care about emergency vehicles, since they are not always on a "real" call (i.e. "it´s just a drill").
@ThePyrokid101 Actually, NYPD would be there for crowd control. They have the Military there for real emergencies. I live in NY and can tell you that's a fact. You should see all the troops there, walking around with guns, dogs, etc. That's why they put the NYPD in cars to drive around, and the Military posts guard at the train stations, subways, times sq.
@CurtisSalopek They do it to train for their plan for responding to a terrorist attack, should one occour, now obviously in a real situation they wouldn't all be sitting in one intersection so this is really just a show of force, MAYBE they're testing the ability of a mass of units to form in and move through the city.
well if you notice they're not all painted black: its just that most cop cars use heavy duty rims to a) add extra protection from sharp objects/bullets, and b) to keep the rims from flying off when an officer drives fast, as there are a lot of pot holes and tight spaces in nyc the wheels arent made for style; theyre made to get the job done
@Nicoleise This is the result of Post 9/11 New York. What you are seeing is called a "surge drill" and its purpose is to deter anyone who may be attempting or conspiring to commit a crime or terrorist act by showing a large amount of force in random areas of the city.
@BoneBone2012 Its suppose to decrease response time to 'terrorist attacks'. The thing I dont get is how the hell is an entire presinct rallying to a meet spot AND THEN responding to the attack, quicker then sending a dispatch and them responding right away? Is it to gear up or something?
Donut jokes... People dissing the police surge drills... They have a purpose and they train to get better. Look at the plane crash in the hudson. They have to do this so they know how to get all emergency vehicles to a big disaster. Just sayin...
Two questions come to my mind... What happens when all (or most) police officers will be in one place? (Secondary kaboom?!) How many complaints were received from antsy New Yorkers because they could not cross the street for 3 minutes? (Mmmm... :/ )
It's called a "Mock Mobilization". Its practice mobilizing from location to location incase of another terrorist act. It teaches then to safely get around together and quickly. They are all diff cops from diff precincts from all over NYC.
70 cop cars out of 8,800+ NYPD total possible maximum of 140 officers out of 34,000+ NYPD total I don't think there will be any more of a chance to steal anything than if this surge drill didn't happen to begin with lol
We might as well stop trying to explain what this means. Those of us who really know what its about, already know why its done. Those who try to make smart remarks and dont get it, are really never going to get it..
@TWutangT A police bus is usually for arresting a large number of people. Some examples would be if they knew they were going to bust a drug house or building with a lot of people, or if they were arresting people at a protest.
This is clearly nothing more than a show of force....this is not something that they need to practice..drive from point A to point B and get out your gun.....it is a terrible waste of fuel and taxpayer money paying salaries
@bk5508 what emergency, the donut shops about to close? lucky none of the citizens going about their business were inconvenienced by having to wait 5 minutes to cross the intersection. Tax dollars at work and polluting the air.
@LatinoSan What? You think the cars just sit there all day until a surge drill? The're driving around anyway. It's stageing to get the most cops to one place in one of the most traffic unfriendly cities in the country.
"Attention all units in the vicinity of Easton, Niko Bellic is spotted in a, uh, grey Declasse Merit, heading westbound towards Columbus Avenue. Be advised, suspect is heavily armed." Do I know GTA...
@mella206 a drill in which federal or local police practice moving to one area of harm to prevent a crime it is alos a counter-terrriosm drill used science 9-11 :( there r tons of these vids out there.
Apart from the cars used (you will always be remembered crown vic and for me the old impala too) the sirens are different. Can someonw tell me what type of siren they used back then and the one currently used?
Seems like good practice, but if I saw this and hadn't heard of it before, I would be seriously concerned that there was a natural disaster or terrorist attack going on
If you are not from NYC I can see how you would be very Nervous seeing all of these Police cars. But when your from NYC just another day in the this great City we live in.
y not get in in the same fucking car theres like one person per car so when they get to the place where they going where the fuck are they going to park all those cars
@gunny552 thats only one police precinct, there are 76 police precincts in NYC. There's more than enough cops to handle anything even if half of the precincts are gone.
holy the cops are going to rushcanda and steal all the donuts form timmys no !!!!! (timmys = tim hortens) :( i like donnuts (obama wants allthe donuts says a cop
Wow....My county here in KY only has 4 police cars and 3 sheriff cars. The citizens ARE the law where I am. We definitely support the 2nd Amendment. LOL.

Where I live, the CVPIs appear to be sold at wholesale at some used car lots in the area. I'm in the process of buying one.
There were more impalas then vics
Impalas are the best!
a lot of people hate the police. but they should respect them. I mean after all on 9/11 they were some of the best rescuers. if they were not there on 9/11 half the people would not of been carried or helped out of harms way.

@ibunkerpeople Would 200-300 police cars actually be all in the same place? Wouldnt they be spread out through the city?
WoW never seen that many police units in one place...looks like they found Binladen if you dont know its a drill.
What kind of handguns do the NYPD use? I live in Brisbane (Australia) and our officers use Glock 19's
A sight to strike fear into Burn Loot Murderer's hearts and warm the hearts of everyone else
