I was at station 2 with Rapha, not a single soul rode by
but we were entertained by keeping the tent from flying away, LOL!!
Great event even with the wind! even with that, watching this gives me a little FOMO and envy, I may need to ride this one next year lol
The headline could have been: “Justin Williams burns down Malibu and the peloton gets blown off the mountain, but at least the cookies were yummy.”
Such a fun day! Thanks so much for putting this together!
Thank You Phil and all your volunteers and sponsors for another great event. This was my 3rd and I will be back next year as well.
That looks like a lot fun and a great atmosphere to it all. Nice work everyone
Cool to see Mr Williams at the top of the encinal canyon climb. Fun event. Thanks Phil.
Awesome I’m in my the video. At 2:05, thanks for putting up with me Phil, your really a great guy and the Fondo was awesome
If pro cyclists aren't on Strava, then how else can I feel wildly inadequate on the bike?
My very first real "cycling experience (other than riding to a friend's house a couple miles away) was in 1968. We lived in Camarillo and I was getting ready for a 50 mile backpacking trip and my buddy Alan was trying to get in shape for freshman basketball. We decided a long bike ride to Thousand Oaks and back would be a good way to train. We got on the road, pedaled onto the 101 freeway and made it to about the high school before a CHP officer pulled over and informed us we couldn't do that. We were 14. Who knew? Anyway, he gave us directions to Potrero Road via Lewis Rd (conveniently the next offramp). We made it up to TO and back on those old 10 speed bikes. Took us all day and I recall thinking that the freeway would have been quicker...and less steep. Good times.
Yup, it was very windy! I went for the 0730 start. Climbed Westlake and the hill on Mulholland. When I reached the down hill, the wind was blowing hard. I decided to turn around and went back to the start line and rode the Mini Chip route. Even on that route the wind was blowing, but it was not as dangerous as the other routes. I got my riding fix for that day, so it was good enough!
I ended up bailing on the chocolate chip route after the first climb. Bummed about the wind. Saturday was a blast and had some great conversations on Sunday hanging around the event start/finish. Look forward to coming back next year!
Jon Hill will give a thumbs up to any video with a dog
What is Frankie Andreu doing these days?
It was all about survival. It was brutal. And fun. Well worth it. Thanks all!
It’s always a positive notch in my calendar✅. Now we will referee to this one in a “Friends episode manner” as “the Windy one”. Glad I made it one more year.
That wind was definitely a thing Make up ride this weekend at King's Front Door Fondo 😉.
A great event well done Phil and everbody involved 😊
at was a BLAST... literally... See you next year !
Great Job Phil
My buddy drove six hours. Rode 20 minutes and turned around, drove six hours home. Said he'd never go again.
I was in the same situation (I actually flew from the east coast). It's a bummer, but we cannot control the weather. Any outdoor activity, there's risk for a blowout. The only thing you can control is your attitude.
Sorry to hear your friend bailed. It was tough and windy but I decided to stick it out and take my time and still had a great time. (I flew from the east coast too). I’ve already decided to sign back up for next year so I can see what it’s like without the high winds. Thanks Phil and all the volunteers and sponsors for making it possible!
I was a volunteer at an aid station, and know it was crazy windy, but it was not so windy that you couldn’t ride. You might do 50 instead of 80, but you just move forward as the route had riders moving in different directions. Just ride safe and suffer through it. That’s what epic is about…
For real though, pro cyclists shouldn't be allowed on Strava.
It's not that serious
@@timw9024 I don't even have strava.
